My car was a "rebuilt" from a front-end hit and had some loose fasteners holding things together, so been there, seen that.
As with you, no regrets.

Given that there was some front end work, I'd take a close look at the A/C lines in case one of those got bent. It's a tight fit for those - I found one of the lines rubbing on a bolt when I installed my air horns last month (photo is after I'd pulled it back away from that bolt end).

Checked for alternator failure. Last time I was able to drive the DSG, it gave me a warning for "Battery Not Charging." ODBII scanner confirmed that voltage was slowly dropping while I drove, so I parked during my latest trips. Today, with a friend I was finally able to check VCDS and watched a live plot of ECU volts. Occasionally, the voltage will spike up to 13.2, but then immediately drops back down to the steady battery charge (and slowly drops as equipment uses power to keep the car running). Seems the alternator can't generate power, so the next step is to park it again, because I have to drive in the morning.

On the manual 2060, pulled some logs to set a baseline for working on tuning. We discussed the fuel rail pressure drop issue, and I think the next step might be to swap out a spare fuel pressure regulator (I have one on a spare fuel rail), verify that it's not the regulator.

Replaced the left rear wheel bearing and abs sensor. Wheel bearing was a TRQ, sensor was off Amazon but had VW stamped in it🤷‍♂️. The oem bearing didn’t have much grease left. All the lights cleared within a 1/4 mile of driving so I’m happy. The rear rotor looked horrible on the inner side, s probably next year will be doing again

I purchased the 2015 Golf TDI SEL from a small "exporter" in Houston. Turns out he buys cars that are diesel here in the US, tries to sell them for a few months and if he can't he ships them to Albania in a shipping container "4 cars in a 40' container, for $4000" (but a Golf is 14 feet long, how does one fit 4 cars in 40 ft?)

Immediately upon getting it off the trailer, I changed the Oil, Fixed the leaky sunroof, troubleshot the AFS lighting failure to the light module, started troubleshooting the #3 Glow plug issue (if I swap the glow plug with #2 it still has a fault, but not the same fault (goes from P13D6 to P13D5) more on that later.

Next up: Timing belt . The purchase of the car came with the Timing belt and water pump kit (WP is leaking)
Serpentine belt
New Rotors and Pads
Alternator is starting to go bad, only putting out about 13.9 V
AFS Module replacement
#3 Glow Plug harness

I paid 7 for my car, but now that I have had it for a few weeks I now see that I should have negotiated more. With the errors/codes, a leaking sunroof that he was concealing by cleaning the headliner. The front brake rotors were warped and the pads were on the metal.

Installed a Darkside Developments downpipe and Malone/TuneZilla Stage2 tune with a DSG tune on my wife's 2015 GSW. Taking things apart was a total PITA. Putting the new parts on was easy peasy.

Any advice on removing the SCR injector and lines? Don't care for the idea of using a zip tie to just hold them out of the way indefinitely.

If you have a way to log your boost levels please do. Stock turbo could overboost with a delete.

Also curious about how to bypass that SCR injector, would need something to cap or couple the lines.

I'm pretty sure my tuner has boost control set appropriately. All of my modifications have been performed in consultation with Malone/TuneZilla/Darkside. I haven't been asked for logs and have asked a lot of questions, as this is a new engine platform for me. I'm coming from highly modded 1z/AHU's and ALH's. Regarding the DEF injector. It's just hanging out zip tied out of the way. I'm going to find a way to remove all of its electrical, without cutting wires if possible, and remove plumbing on another day. All of its supply plumbing runs underneath the passenger belly pan, easy to remove. However, it appears to have some hardlines that run forward and under the IC. Removing those might be trickier or may be as simple as capping the 5th injector on a 1z. If anyone has gone that far I'm all ears! ECU doesn't know the DEF system is there anymore, like all the other parts that fell off driving down the dirt road!

That's funny, that'll be exactly the setup on MY wife's GSW! Have the pipe sitting waiting for a Flashzilla to arrive from Malone and some leave time to dig in.

Did you pull the subframe or driveshaft, or work around those?

I pulled the driveshaft, dog bone trans mount and separated the control arm from the steering knuckle. The videos show taking out through the exhaust tunnel. That won't work without creating space by lowering or dropping the subframe. I was able to rock the engine forward enough to remove the DPF on the front side of the subframe. Total PITA, lots of 4 letter words but no tool throwing !🤣 I would rock the motor with a pry bar and just gradually worked it out. Wasted a lot of time trying to go out the exhaust tunnel as those were the instructions on RawTech's website as well as some videos.

Well, I attempted to replace my front wheel bearings, but that was a total fail. Wrong parts, I took a chance on ordering a set from Amazon and I guess I might have picked the wrong ones. The description said it was an exact fit, but it turns out a few of them are an exact fit, it just depends. My bearing diameter is 80 mills and the one I got was 85. So I'll send these back and I already ordered one from Autozone.

Yep. Look at the PR codes for your car and that'll tell you which size bearing you have.
GTI and other "performance" trims (including my wife's A3 e-tron) are the 85mm, while the "stock" Golf/GSW are the 80mm.
(Ask me how I came to this conclusion.... 🤦‍♂️ ).

Isn't it a correlation between steel knuckles and cast aluminum knuckles? Either way i hardly trust Slamazon for oil filters, I'm not trusting it for drive line parts when there are so many other proper auto parts vendors out there. Heck I'd do rock auto for a wheel bearing over amazon., it'd probably be cheaper too.

Amsoiltek how elbow deep were you in the change out before you discovered the issue? I'm guessing the old wheel bearing was out and you were comparing the two side by side.

You could switch to aluminum knuckles, but would also need to switch to 55mm struts, haha. If we're talking Mk7 stuff anyway.

Mk6 R had steel knuckles, 55mm struts and 85mm bearings I believe.

Hey 740, yeah I had pulled the left off and then compared them and that's when I realized it was the wrong part. It was TRQ from Amazon but what's crazy I looked at both PN#'s for the 80mm and the 85mm and they both fit my car! That's BS. Anyway I sent them back and got a next day from Autozone and in 40 minutes life was good. I didn't reach out to TRQ to make it right since I didn't want to waste any more days since my backup driver is a 2008 Duramax and my work commute is 120 miles round trip and diesel has just jumped up this past week almost a buck here in SoCal. I did have one minor setback, upon my test drive my backing plate was rubbing on the rotor, totally my fault because when dismounting the wheel I didn't catch it in time and tweaked the tin. Took the wheel off and with some minor persuasion, good as new. Yesterday was my first commute and it was super quiet. Hub failed at 142,800 miles. I guess not too bad. Oh did manage to get Diesel for $4.04 at the new Maverick's in Victorville by getting their Nitro card, posted price was $4.39. Next up in 10,000 miles is DSG fluid/filter change. I need to look at my PR codes again and put them in my Fuelly app.

Cheers guys.

You just never know what's going to happen with the weather anymore. We got hit with the polar vortex here in Wisconsin, yet somehow Florida had way more snow than us last week. Glad to hear you're getting some rain...maybe it will help with those fires.
