https://flic.kr/p/2ouWXQL Swapped ScanGauge II for a ScanGauge III. I ran the cable from ODBII above knees, along the underside of the dash/kick panel to the center console. I easily fished the cable into the side of the center console through a small gap between panels. I removed the crap catcher under heater/AC controls and then removed the rubber liner out of the crap catcher. I drilled a hole in the plastic back of the crap catcher and ran the cable through the hole. After replacing the rubber liner and reinstalling the crap catcher, I set the display in doorway of said crap catcher just forward of stick shift. Easy and fairly clean install. I usually set my phone there while it's plugged into the ApplePlay so I had to move the phone back either on the seat (if empty) or in the cupholders. Not ideal. Obviously the first gripe I have with the new ScanGauge III is it isn't as short as the ScanGauge II so it will not stick nicely out of the way above the speedometer and tach. My second gripe is the cable will only attach to the rear of the ScanGauge III display, unlike the ScanGauge II that had a side option. My third gripe is there doesn't appear to be a diesel particulate filter (DPF) temperature, only a "Regen Status" box. Although maybe I just haven't found it yet. I like the III over the II since it has more options of things to monitor and it can monitor nine things at once, more than the ScanGauge II's limit of 4. Not only that, the III has tabs so you can switch quickly between three pages of nine boxes each for a total of 27 boxes of items to monitor. Gadget junkies rejoice! Things that I've found that the III monitors that I don't believe that the II did include DPF soot mass, NOx emissions, and fuel pressure, among others. The III also has an audible and flashing alarm feature which I set up to tell me when regen was active. I experienced that for the first time today and it was an improvement over needing to periodically glance at my DPF and exhaust gas temperatures.

It’s just a make shift breather hose. No it didn’t come with the kit. It was temporary but I might wrap it black and leave it since it’s working fine. Their supplied air feed wouldn’t fit. A few other little things needed work as well. They don’t have the CRUA where Darkside is, I’m sure everything lines right up on the CUNA tho.

Ha! Definitely not a longer running engine.

I only did a turbo upgrade so I could justify putting in Recaro seats.

Our head design limits us to 250bhp. Darkside did this setup and pulled 250bhp, 370tq without meth, and 258bhp 385tq with meth. The power gain isn’t ideal for the money spent but it definitely woke this car up.

Was hoping to bring it to the NE Dust Off this weekend but I’m still waiting on a sunroof (3 months) so I won’t be going.

Switched out the 16" Altimax RT45's to set of 15" Ecopias that I have. Saving tread on the Generals for winter....

Nothing to report, car's working great. ;)
(Just raced back from the Okanagan - 130kph most of the way to catch a ferry....missed by 3minutes so was on the one that gets me home at 2am instead of 11:30pm; anyway, got 5.4L/100km on that tank.)

Oh - although I did get a new wireless CarPlay dongle (Otto brand) for that last trip. WAY better than my previous (older) CarLinkit thing. It pairs reliably and very quickly - sometimes the first thing I see on the MIB display is the CarPlay maps.

@Trfytoy This is my Golf on the near exact suspension you have pictured there... GTI springs and Bilstein B4 Damptronics, the OEM equivalent replacement struts).

This is on Neuspeed RSE05s, 17s, 235/45s. My next set of tires will definitely be meatier. When I bought these tires I was lowered on B8s with H&R OE Sports so I couldn't fit anything taller without rubbing.

@Cuzoe yeah that looks 🔥

I'm looking for the "not 4x4" look. But also not as low as an R as it's still my daily.

17's look great with that brake setup. What are you running?

@Trfytoy I think with some taller tires it would be perfect. But I have no complaints about the current look. And I don't have to think about entry and exit angles 🤣. I do not miss that from my lower setup.

Porsche Macan 4 pots with 345mm rotors. These bolt straight onto the aluminum GTI/R knuckles. I switched to those knuckles when I retrofitted DCC since DCC means 55mm GTI/R struts.

The rear is 310mm GTI-PP/Golf R rotors. I did electronic parking brake retrofit (highly do not recommend) so I have Golf R calipers now, but before that I had the GTI-PP rear calipers/carriers which are manual parking brake, same 310mm rotors.

In the past I had Brembo 17z 6 pots up front. Those bolts onto the factory steel knuckles but the offset isn't quite right and the rotors were expensive, they were respect for a Mercedes something or another. They also filled out the 17 inch wheel completely though, haha.

Old picture and not straight on. But I think this was on factory suspension...

Finally got a sunroof after a three month back order. Then neither the dealer nor the VW collision center would install it… crazy. I can tell the new sunroof will crack in the same place as well. Anyway, now that the sunroof is in, I just swapped to all black interior (miserable experience) and installed Recaros. I retrofitted Golf R heat, Occupancy sensor, rail sensors, and I made up some airbag cancellers.

I was thinking the H&R could would be too low for what I use the car for.
I run HR with Bilstein B8s. It’s def lower than an R. Not a fan on the B8s with the internal bump stop. It WILL bottom out. Anytime I’m in the highway and there’s one of those lips that goes from road construction to new/old pavement it rattles my fillings out. HR has a spring for the TDI (54786-2) that gives a nice balanced look from front to rear unlike some other springs that are not meant for our car.

Yea... I really liked the B8/H&R look, lower than an R for sure, but I just couldn't deal with it daily.. Our apartment had under building parking with the entrance on a hill. If I didn't get the angle perfect I always scraped the front on the street-sidewalk-garage transition.

That sucked... but the constant scanning of the road ahead to brace for impact was untenable. Didn't help I was running aluminum camber plates. Tried 034 and SuperPro, both of whom claimed "stock like" NVH. I'll give them the N and V but the H... nothing stock like about it.

Added to the low I needed 10mm spacers to clear the 17Z's even with BBK friendly RSE05s so I was rubbing pretty badly on canyon drives.

Went back to stock suspension, didn't like the car
in the canyons but daily driving was enjoyable again. Given the choice I'll take a comfortable daily setup over a good in the twisties setup every day is the week. Thus began the DCC retrofit journey, best of both worlds.

@mayday_soc so are you saying the black interior conversion was not fun? 🤣 I thought the grab handles, followed by the A pillars were the most annoying thing to remove.

I 100% concur but I think it's worth it. And It was the perfect time to sound deaden everything. I can't even picture the car with the gray interior anymore.

I do wish I had just bought visors and A pillars from AliExpress. I couldn't get used ones in anything near decent condition and they are stupidly expensive from the dealer. The rest of It was easy to source, although the dealer did not want to sell me a Golf R (no sunroof) headliner without signing away my right to return it since they didn't think it would fit 🤷🏿‍♂️.

@Cuzoe I probably spent more time removing grab handles than taking apart the rest of the interior. I was bleeding out when I was done. I thought putting them back in would be much easier. I still don’t think they’re in all the way because I can’t push a few of the black plastic inserts in all the way.

My dealer is decent. As soon as I placed an order for some black pieces he knew I was swapping to all black interior. He did cancel two parts saying I didn’t need them because they were included with another part. He was wrong, hence why you see grey SOS buttons in my pic. I already ordered the two parts I needed. It will be a quick swap.

Glad I finally got this behind me so I can move onto my ECS shutoff retrofit and be done with interior mods. If you happen to know where I can grab lume and earth from the buttons to the right of the DSG that’d be sweet. I have no buttons on the left. Gonna run from pin 9 to pin 4 on BCM and pin 10 to fuse sc34 yellow black wire. I can get lume from solid grey on headlight switch but I’d rather not run to it if I don’t have to. If I can get lume and earth from my right button layout (has 1 button in it) that would be so much easier.

@mayday_soc Yea I'm still not convinced my passenger grab handle is in there fully. It will be replaced with a glasses holder from AliExpress anyway. I retrofitted ambient overhead lighting that does not have the glasses holder. The driver side and rear handles are in there solid though.

Hopefully this picture isn't blurry. But EX30 is the set of buttons on the right side. As long as you have at least one button over there... on the 10 pin connector there is Ground on Pin 1 and Background Lighting (58d) on Pin 2.

Also I assume you mean Pin 9 for the ESC button to Pin 4 at the ABS Module ;)

@Cuzoe Mother of God that wire diagram is exactly what I was looking for. I gotta get Erwin and download manuals. This retrofit will be so much easier now.

That sun glass holder is a great idea but I’d rather go to jail than take my grab handles out again to install it.

What brakes are those and what hardware did you use to get them on?

@whizznbyu Those are Porsche Macan brakes up front. You need to swap to GTI aluminum knuckles to fit those. The rears a you want GTI performance pack. They’ll bolt right on. I believe he’s running Golf R rears tho cause he did an electric parking brake upgrade which we don’t have and you definitely don’t want to do.

@whizznbyu Keep in mind and knuckle switch ends up requiring some other stuff. You'll need 55mm struts. So ideal time would be when you're doing new struts anyway. I got used GTI knuckles on eBay for under $150 shipped.

I did replace the wheel bearings on both of them out of precaution. Just have to make sure you get bearings for a GTI, not a Golf. Axle portion is the same but GTI is a larger bearing. All the upper strap mount stuff is the same across all the Golfs.

And after you make the switch, you're open to any GTI/R big brake setup. Macans bolt right up. Top load pads, super common pad shape, and fit under 17s (with a spacer of course, depending on offset/spoke design).

@Cuzoe I installed the ESC shutoff switch this weekend. I have working Lume from pin 2 on the right DSG buttons jumped to pin2 on the left DSG buttons. I grabbed ground from pin 1 on the right DSG buttons and jumped to pin 1 on the left DSG buttons. I did an “add a circuit” to fuse 34 and wired to pin 10 on the left DSG buttons. I then ran pin 9 on the left DSG buttons direct to ABS module pin 4. I tested continuity from end to end on all connections and they’re working fine. I think my issue is the connector used in the 38 pin ABS module (repair wire 000 979 046 E). It doesn’t feel right even when “locked” in by the purple shim. Is the female connector for the 38 pin ABS module different than the 46 ABS module.

EDIT: The correct repair wire for my NAR 38 pin ABS module is 000 979 025 EA

So after a year of procrastinating and a failed attempt last weekend, I finally installed my ESC shutoff switch. It’s really not a terrible install as long as you have the correct repair wires. I never did find the part number for the purple rubber grommets but if you stop in your local VW dealer they have these things laying around in spare parts boxes. My guy gave me an old seat harness and I took the grommet from that. Thanks again @Cuzoe for the wiring diagram. Please pay no mind to all my pollen.
