Hello,

I've had my screen upgrade installed for about a week. The price of admission stings a bit, but I still love it. I got into a friend's GTI last week and his display looks small. HAHA!

Yesterday, actually. Picked it up from the body shop. They did an excellent job of matching and blending.

Fuel door failed locked on my GTI today. Still under warranty so I took it to closest stealer this morning. Get a call around noon: "Sir, your car is ready. We replaced a faulty actuator. Oh, by the way, we had to break your fuel door to get it open. We ordered a new one and the body shop should have it painted in about two weeks"

I installed the OEM European aspherical blind spot mirrors from DAP on my GSW. I would highly recommend these. Love them so far. Took maybe 15 minutes total.

Yes these are a must have for VW small mirrors. No place for stick on cheaters.

There is a TSB on this. Here is a reference to it (w/o number) with pix and DIY fix. I'm guessing there may be more than one failure mode for this symptom. I did the "rib shave" proactively even though I haven't yet had the symptom.

Just got my car about a week ago. CPO 2015 Golf SEL TDI 6 speed. Threw in a new cabin and air filter, some yellow fogs, OEM euro headlight switch, titanium black exhaust tips and just ordered the Euro short shift kit.

In my case, the fuel door failed locked.

And apparently:

1. VW’s procedure is to rip the f***ing fuel door off to get to the failed actuator and then make you wait weeks for the new fuel door to come in and go to the body shop for painting.

Or

2. The VW dealer service network is filled with incompetent monkeys.

Today I almost sh*t myself trying to pump diesel. I couldn't get the pump to go into the tank. That's when I noticed the piece of plastic blocking the tank. Luckily after some frantic research, I realized it was probably the pump nozzle. Moved to the next station and it depressed the plastic cover and I was able to pump my gas. I never had a clue about this feature

Followed a landscaping truck on the road. He hit an expansion joint and a rock bounced out, bounced off the trailer he was towing, and then bounced onto the sunroof of my car. Shattered it. Glass rained on me all the way home. I'll have a new sunroof next week. So kinda "what I did" but more like, "What I'll have done."

You're replacement will fail as well. I'd highly recommend disconnecting the actuator when the latch is unlocked and never have to worry about it again.

Our '12 Passat made it to about 2016, and 55k before it started getting wonky, finally able to disconnect it and never had to worry about it again.

I just took someone's suggestion here and turned off the auto door locks. I rarely lock my car so I hope the actuator lasts longer because it won't operate often.

Not a bad idea for those not parking in populated areas at night. I may do it to my GSW, which I'm keeping.

Is there a way to recode so there is no more warnings in the bcm?
Sorta like removing sensor feedback from washer and brake pads?

Diesel Fueling adapter..

You might want to consider picking one of these up, trust me it comes in handy when your out in the middle of nowhere and there is only one diesel pump to be found... It saved me several times over the past couple of years. I have one in both my tdi's.

If they want in your tank, they'll get in your tank, heck the dealer got in there in prob 5 min.

Also theres quite a metric crap ton of other cars on the road with no failure prone fuel door locks and they seem to be fine (knocks on wood we don't see $4.50 gallon any time soon)

Installed H&R sport springs, Koni Yellow shocks, and a 034Motorsport dogbone insert.

Initial impressions on suspension:
much better looking and driving in every way. I love it. lowered 2"+ all the way around. fender to hub center was 15.25," now we're sitting right at 13" so that's a big difference for just the "sport" springs.

Initial impressions on the dogbone:
not completely sold on it- transmits a surprising amount of noise and vibration throughout the car, though the clutch is more responsive and shifts are more precise. may remove it after a few thousand miles if the noise still bugs me.

I tried the softest BFI dogbone insert and absolutely hated it. That level of vibration/nose is simply unacceptable in a modern car intended for any amount of normal use.

H&Rs are the way to go, looks great!

That makes me feel a lot better! I couldn't tell if I was getting old and going soft, but it's just a lot of noise for what it does.

Thanks!

What happened?
I've only had the car about a month. All the gears were really notchy but it didn't bother me. Then 3rd and 4th gear started to grind every time I'd shift into or out of them. So I took it in and they said it was defects and material fatigue on the transmission and they were replacing it.

At what mileage? Assuming you didn't buy a newer one from the dealer.

you can remove that preventer mod the dealer installed with needle nose pliers
If you're speaking of the fuel guard assembly, if dealer sees it theyll make note and void any warranty work on fuel component failure.

I've been down that F'in road.
