Hit a big (10+") chunk of ice that fell out from the wheel of a pick-up I was following last week. I'm thrilled I had a skid plate otherwise I would have lost the engine and possibly the tranny. As it is I need a new intercooler, radiator and AC condenser. It won't be cheap but they said it would be over 10K if the engine had been taken out.

Ah, the joys of winter

Decide to play with more exhausts setups with the uberly loud Golf. Started off 2.5" turbo back straight, way way too loud. Added a Aero 2525xl in the stock can location still not satificatory. Put a Magnaflow 14216 SS can in the stock can location . . . So quite I can hear the roof rack whisper in the wind. Yup steath mode accomplished interior cabin went from 87db to 71db

Installed an RNS-510 H into my Sportwagen a few days ago. Was having issues with over heating and the screen going black; but still having touch function. I ended up taking the unit out and removing the screen and reseated the connectors. Then I drilled some holes into the panel under the climate control. To allow some airflow to get into that area.

Otherwise I've had no issues. Thanks Scott from MFD3.com

Replaced driver's side axle (both boots ripped and clickety-clacking all winter long). Nice easy job. Two new ebrake cables and a set of rear brake pads. Time for an overdue inspection.

A few days ago I installed the TacoTaco intercooler with Kerma's intercooler piping. Seemed like problem after problem with all this. Went to Lowe's and found a rubber grommet to replace the stock rubber isolator for the intercooler mounts. Found a steel cylinder(spacer) to go in the grommet as well. My stock map sensor wouldn't fit in the intercooler mount. Had to get a BEW map sensor because it's of the smaller variety. Kerma's lower intercooler piping didn't fit, so I had to cut some off the pipe and make a lip on both ends. Finally got the lower piping to fit, now the upper piping wouldn't fit. The piping was rubbing on the power steering pulley. I finally gave up on the upper intercooler piping and put the stock upper piping back on.

Today, I installed the new injectors. Went with dlc1019s. Took a little cranking and cracking open the fuel line nuts about half a turn, but she finally cranked. I had air coming out of injector 3. Tightened down the fork a little bit and no air now. She is purring like a kitten. :) Need to find somebody with a VAG-COM so I can adjust IQ tomorrow. It's been a busy and eventful past couple days.

Received and installed 312mm front brakes with Bosch rotors and Akebono pads.

Apparently I have had a stuck caliper for a long time (rotor was heavily rusted) that unstuck causing the brake pedal to fall to the floor (1 time) and then make terrible metal on metal noises after that.
Old brakes were 288 mm.

Dynoed it at the southeast g2g yesterday. Car made 161 hp 292 tq.

Also fixed my sunroof drains while I was there. Couple days ago I installed my McNally Egt/boost gauge. Make sure if you are drilling your manifold from up top to drill it between the r's in garrett (if not installing in egr blockoff plate). I thought it would be best to drill a little further back and guess what, the intake wouldnt fit back on. Luckily I was able to bend the probe slightly enough to clear the manifold. Pretty awesome gauge.

Do you have more info on the gauge?

Wish I could have shown it to you yesterday. It is a very popular gauge on the forums. Uses an electric boost sensor and egt gauge. The boost gauge is analog and the egt gauge is digital. Let me know what questions you have. I am sure others can chime in too.

They're a good gauge - have been some temperature accuracy questions about them and the temperature won't read below 0C/32F which is minor but frustrating for us in the northern climates.
My SPA Design gauge won't display below freezing either, but is it really an issue? When would EGTs be that low?

Isn't Boston within 2 inches of setting a new snowfall record?
We hit it. 102" or something like that. Snow piles are still pretty big here. I had to shovel the drive to the remote garage. Hadn't gotten the Passat out since late January.

Installed an aftermarket keyless entry system, took a while to sort out how to do it and then the freaking diagram turned out to be wrong, when I pushed the lock button the doors unlocked and vice versa.
It was easy to switch two wires in the plug but still...

Reason for the keyless system is that the passenger side door lock stopped working, the lock works but it doesn't trigger the central locking system. The driver side tumbler is worn and not very smooth to operate even after cleaning, so I guess that'll break again, sooner or later.
So I just took care of the symptoms and not the cause of them, but that's ok in this case :)

Drove the '12 Golf. Last time I started it was Dec 15. Didn't throw any codes this time like it did the last time it sat. Think I should sell it, as I don't seem to drive it much.
