Installed some Lamin-X over the headlights, pretty easy, will see how long it takes for the little moisture spots to disappear.

Have her a bath & detailed both inside & out & finally painted the front rub strip to match the rest of the car. I need a euro plate for the front now.

The drivers side door lock has been hard to turn for quite some time so I took it apart, cleaned and relubed it. That went really well, the lock turns very smoothly now. When I was putting the lock back in the door it didn't seat properly so I turned the lock-screw about 1/4 turn ccw and pushed the lock in place.
That was followed by the sound of a fastener falling down inside the door...ffs, I thought, and took the panel off only to find not only the "nut" that holds the lock in place but also 1/2 of one plastic window regulator clip on the bottom of the door! I have taken the locks out several times Before but this time I just turned that bloody screw too far.
The nut had fallen to the left corner of the door, into a slot thats exactly wide enough for the nut but too narrow for most tools so I had to make a hook out of baling wire and fish it out.
It took a few attempts to get the nut mounted on the bracket inside the door but I got it done and put the door panels back, knowing that I'll have to do it again as soon as I get new regulator clips...

Bathed my rear left ABS sensor and tone ring in brake cleaning fluid hoping it would make the ABS light go off. No such luck. VCDS reported 0mph while turning the hub, so it was time to hammer out the old and hammer in the new.

The job took about 30 minutes. Not sure why I paid someone to do it last time.

Consider yourself lucky. I had to fight tooth & nail with my left rear EDIT: RIGHT rear... must be monday /EDIT sensor. Eventually, I took a plumbing torch and melted it away.

Over the weekend I got my new clutch installed. Went with the VR6/G60 setup and am very pleased with it. There is some rattle in neutral with clutch out but it isn't unbearable. I drove the car easy for the first 200 miles and finally had a chance to push it hard yesterday and tried to make it slip but wasn't able to. Hooked up VCDS and did some 4th gear logging and it did great.

Looks good, might have to try it on ours. How many coats of the grey?
I applied 4-5 coats of gray. Only 1 coat of glossifier unless you want them really shiny. Just 1 coat gives you a great look - just enough to cut the flat/matte finish. To my knowledge the true metallic colors are only available via dipyourcar.com. They also have a nice metallic gold and an aluminum. The basic wheel kit comes with 4 cans of your color choice and 1 can of glossifier. I'm not an official advertiser for dipyourcar, but I will say they have great customer service, and their plethora of DIY and informational youtube videos rock. He saved me from a total re-apply due to one of his videos - my 4 year old accidentally sprayed my wheels with the water hose during the 2nd coat drying. I was steaming to put it lightly... Enjoy! And send me some pics when you're done... Best thing about it - you can peel it off if you don't like it or if you want a new look!!

Looks just fine on my iPhone. I don't have time to sit around and look at tdiclub on a small HDTV and knock others' posts. I took pics with iphone this AM, uploaded to pic server and posted. I don't have time nor the knowhow to resize pics. Sorry if I've offended you. If the moderator wishes to remove pics, fine by me.

I had the same problem but it didn't bother me enough to complain about it.

Another vote here: PLEASE re-size those photos. Even my 27" 2560px-wide monitor can't contain it.

As for what I did to(yester)day: Decided I'd had enough of the terrible drone from the 2.5" exhaust system I got from BuzzKen, so I put the stock muffler back in. Soooo much nicer to drive now (and yes, I can live with the .4% - or whatever - downgrade in performance).

I haven't done much to my Jetta lately, other than timing belt and new tires, but I have been busy...I ended up buying 4 cars last week, only planned on buying the 77 Corvette 4 speed. My wife found and bought the 29 Model A, and I also bought a lightly wrecked 04 Jetta TDI and an 83 300D W123 Merc with a veggie conversion.

Here's some pics of the Vette and Model A:

I am traveling in western Nebraska this week, and I haven't taken any pics of the Jetta or Mercedes yet.

Long couple days..

Had a few car projects piling up.. and the stars were aligned. No rain, no big problems, kids in daycare, got it all done! Just a heads up, don't buy any pain in the a$$ bushings from anywhere but VW! bought Meyle (pretty sure) or some other german aftermarket front control arm bushings and they were totally dry rotted, giving me major steering issues after 1 year... 1st VW parts is pretty good site for discount OEM. Also did thermostat, CTS and had thrown a code for the CPK sensor, so did that too. The LCA bushings went pretty smooth. The fronts are way easier than the rears. Thankfully I did TT on the rears last time. If they needed replacing again, I definitely would have gone with loaded control arms.. Also swapped out some exhaust hangers and got rid of a knock going over bumps and lastly, new rear shock mounts and the proper bump stops to fit the KONI STR-T. I had left stock ones on, and they banged over bumps. No more! Cleaned up my skidplate and degreased the engine pretty well. Trying to figure out if my valve cover gasket is leaking, or that dual pump on the driver side of the head. Heard that is a pain, and I'd need a professional.

Not to, but for my car.

The BendPak QuickJack 3500 I ordered back in March was delivered this week. Now I need to find time to assemble it, though I may wait until it is cooler this weekend; almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday.

Today I noticed that the rear passenger side floor was sticking up in the air.

A quick peek at the undercarriage showed a huge impression. The rear drivers side was also similarly bowed but not as extreme. I usually jack from the frame and pinch rails, so it was the last time the car was on a lift.. at a PEP BOYS near Buffalo, NY to get my tires installed.

This was several months ago, so there was no recourse but to take matters into my own hands. I took a hammer to the floor and straightened it out.

There's a lesson to be learned here: don't work on a laptop in Pep Boys' waiting area when instead you can be micromanaging the work on your car.
