Looks like an air to water intercooler to me.
Correct!

If you get a chance stop by and pay me a visit... would love to see this thing in person... perhaps a ride? :D
Really interested in your build.
Im in new west..
Maybe once I get her finished. There was a thread going in the regional forum to try and set up a get together.

Drove the Golf to NYC to see the Auto Show and meet up with an old friend for lunch. 500 miles round trip, 4 hours down, 5 back: lots of traffic on the return. Golf got 43 on the way down with the cruise set at 75, 46 on the way back in traffic, didn't get to use the cruise at all. Those are MFI numbers so subtract 2 MPG.

After three sets each of wheels, tires, and dampers I think I've finally got the ride and handling where I want it. The car rides great, even on NYC's finest roads, and has plenty of stick even on the Merritt Parkway at speed. Very comfortable, although I do tend to miss the GTI Recaros on my wagon after a few hours. Golf seats are a little too flat.

Don't think you can swap MKIV seats into a VI. I think having a long lunch sitting on a wood bench was part of the problem yesterday.

As an aside, there was a nice Miata display at the show.

Nice! I'm hoping that at the 25th Anniversary Event in September at Laguna Seca, Mazda will unveil the ND. I won't get one as I'll stay with the NA I bought in July 1989.

Perhaps with a custom bracket, the Recaros would fit in the Golf?

Friday night I checked operation of my cooling fans and the the drivers side fan burned out again. I replaced it two years ago with a cheap Advanced Auto replacement and it bit the dust. Replaced it under warranty and it only took about an hour and a half to complete which included driving to the parts store to get the new fan.

No, thanks. I'll stay with my classic Miata. I just paid off the Jetta last week; don't want to take on a new car loan.

Got some new tires for the Golf. General Altimax HP 205/65/15. about to go on a long road trip, so new tires were in order. we shall see how they are. initial thoughts are they are quiet, i told the guy to put 42# in each. if he did, I still have to check, but they feel a little spongy.. but give me a week with them, then i can tell how they really feel.

I have them, I had them on MK3 (195/60-14), Mk5 Jetta, 205/55-16, on Mk4 Golf 195/65-15,(all stock sizes) They 65s are a little spongy, others were great, I think you should have gone 205/60, not 65 and you'd have better results.

Waste of money from what I've read. I just use a "nitrogen-blend" that is 78.1% Nitrogen, along with trace amounts of Helium and Neon, and about 1% Argon.
...what do you waste your money on that does have proven benefits?

New rain sensor windshield installed for $150, unfortunetly they only last a few years before the pits and chips make it so you can't see when the sun is just right. It seems that the windshields from the 60's and 70's lasted longer!

Did you have one already? I would like to add one to my car. I have every possible option but that

My neighbour gave me a complete upper and lower OEM bra from his son's old Jetta. So, I thought I would try on the upper part.

Yes I purchased parts on TDI club for the wiring harness and relay. The mirror I won at ebay. Nice setup and the mirror is really nice. Worth while mod if you can get the parts reasonable!
