I like the butterfly brace. Just don't want to pull the interior to install it. And I may do an exhaust this year, although the stock one works and sounds fine.

All I did was pop out the seats, remove the sill plates, then fold back the carpet. Drilled the holes, hit them with undercoating spray, installed the rails loosely, then installed the Butterfly Brace. Tightened the rail bolts, repositioned carpet, re-installed the sill plates and seats. All done by myself in 1 day - longest time was waiting for the undercoat to dry.

Put the bra on to protect her from some of the debris flying around on the roads. Ended up dropping one of the clips that hold the hood insulation on and had to poke it out from between my skid plate and oil pan.

Yesterday, fought like hell to swap out a rusted-in ABS sensor. I also found the rear brake on the pass. side to be in very poor shape. The rotor is badly rusted and the pads are worn very unevenly, but very much. It looks like the handbrake wasn't fully releasing causing the adjuster not to advance... I felt stupid putting the brake back together as is but I've emailed Brian and it should hold up for a week or two until I can obtain some new pads and rotors (and return springs). I readjusted the caliper and the handbrake will be staying off for the time being (I'm using a discarded semi-trailer chock I found in a dumpster).

The ABS light turned off and ABS worked fine, if much less heavy-handedly than normal.

Today, the ABS light came back. Grrrr! I'm *this* close to buying a proportioning valve and deleting ABS altogether..

Are you shure thats not the caliper slide pins thats are rusted or the caliper itself that is parltey seized..mk4 rear calipers are know for seizing. Just throwing that out before you put new pads/disks and ruin those too..

Installed new BFI stage 1 inserts in my old dog bone mount. Replaced N75 and installed all new vacuum lines. Even drilled and tapped a hole in my R32 airbox for the N75 line. I've been running without for the last 6 yrs.

Did all this (vacuum stuff) on a hunch of better turbo control. Now I can peg 34 psi in 2nd gear whereas before it had to be uphill in 5th to hit 32-33. Awesome!

Thanks for the tip. Hard to tell without disassembling, but the slide bolts beneath the boots looked well, and plenty greased. I could see that the handbrake arm was only returning halfway. An assistant (thanks Mom!) worked the handbrake on & off while i manually forced the lever to return all the way; this adjusted the caliper properly after the repair attempt. The handbrake lever is now much tighter and the pedal firmer. I haven't seen it stick since but I don't trust it till I add the springs. I've inadvertently tested it since it's force of habit to set the handbrake and I've done it a couple times, then taken it off and checked the caliper arm position (fun in a Target parking lot lol).

Over the last week, it was in between doing farm chores and work, I replaced my timing belt, replaced the clutch with a DC stage 2, changed engine oil, changed trans oil, tried to fix my bloody leaking thermostat housing, and half azzed fixed my broken head light adjuster.

The TB is my third change, only second for mileage though. I had a faulty part the very first time changing it, causing the belt to come within miles or minutes of breaking. The clutch was my first time replacing a clutch in a front wheel drive, what a pain. Talk about a lot of crap that has to come apart. I am used to old trucks where all you had to do was remove the shifter, unbolt the trans, and slide it back a little. Not for this car. Tans fluid that went in is Pennzoil Synchromesh. Shift better than ever, though I am not sure if it was that or the shift linkage since the trans was pulled. I am going to order yet another thermostat housing. I am sure I over tightened it, causing it to deform. I will be making a mount of some sort to go over the plastic to stiffen it up. Hope it will work. I will not have time to get to it for a while though. The head light adjust broke on me a few months back. I am running my HID retrofits and I do not like to blind others while hauling heavy loads in the trunk so I always lower them a bit when loaded. Well I was not paying attention and heard something pop, and the light stopped moving. Went too far. So I hooked up a spring to pull it up to the slider part of the adjuster, and can now adjust it. It might bounce a little when driving, but it will only bounce down, not up, so I should not be blinding people.

Thanks for being considerate 79TA7.6. The only thing worse than HID's misadjusted are trucks with blue HID bulbs in halogen housings (AND fogs). That Guy...

Once you get some mileage on your BFI mounts, I'm curious to hear how you like them.

Picked these up off CL. 17x8 Team Dynamics 1.2's. Conti DWS with about 5k on them. Sweet deal and i like them. Basically wheels and tires for less than the cost of the tires alone. Tires are a bit wide (245), but no rubbing.

I secretly hoped the replacement would magically fix the rattle that sounds like pigeons cooing under my hood, but, alas, I was delusional.

I seriously envy you...that's the setup I'm looking for lol. Looks sweet.

Threw caution to the wind and took the snows off the wagon. If it snows seriously again here this winter I'll just stay home.

After my clutch install, 500 miles and going strong, I uploaded my Malone stage 3 tune. Holy crap what a difference that is from the 1.5. I am very happy with it. Now to see how it affects my mileage. Got to learn to keep my foot out of it.

Took out my DG SS kit and installed an HPA f2b shift arm with 42DD bushings in the shift cable ends. Very nice I think. The bushings give the shift feel a click but just not as much as the DG shifter did.

Now I gotta figure out how to machine my s2s lever for some reduced throw.

Aspherical driver's side mirror on the Golf, and swapped the OE 17s back on the car so I can get the 15s balanced (again). And my son is about to show up with his Golf and flashing glow plug light. We'll see what that's about.

Mine, too. Or his big clunky muddy boots kicking the brake light switch. He managed to get the Passat into the same state this winter.

Turns out it was a needle lift sensor fault. And he had experienced an overall loss of power. Bad fuel. We changed the fuel filter and car seems fine. Also did replace one burned out brake light bulb.

well this is still very raw for now, but just wanted to post some results and findings.
I wanted to do an Ambinent Door Light as they have on CC or B7 in Europe, i bought a 2mm fiber optic rod with 5mm led's on each end, turns out that's not enough ill try 7mm as my next step and hopefully result will be better

Here are some pics

Hey gioTDI, try making some cuts or scoring marks that travel the length of the rod in addition to those bigger LED's. It should help a bit more with light dispersal.
