IBW received it's 29th oil change this afternoon. 290K, want to hit 300 by year's end. Should be a piece of cake, but there are lots of other cars to drive around here. Put Total Quartz 7000 15w50 in for the summer.

I recently did my 2nd oil change :p

What am I going to do with all the oil pan plugs you send me every year?? LOL

I didn't even use a new plug. I only do when the old one feels gritty or is difficult to reinstall. I probably use a new one every 3-4 changes.

Replaced the shocks, struts, ball joints, tie rod ends, and control arm bushings. My hands are beat up, and I am a mess. The garage is in shambles, and the wifes car is outside. The clean up will be tomorrow. I definitely made my life harder by not paying attention to stuff, like the hex key on the ball joints and tie rod ends. Live you learn I guess. Never done this big of a project before, but damn do I feel the accomplishment! I got all my stuff from boraparts and just an fyi, when you purchase the "complete" install kit with the bilstein shocks and struts, you also need to purchase the bolt kit. I assumed the complete kit came with all the necessary bolts and nuts, I was wrong.
Oil change due in a few days so Ill be back under the car wrenching before too long.

When you order just ask us to not include the drain plug. Many people who drain oil from the pan are fanatics about having a new plug, that's why we include it. And I still drain the oil from underneath. Gives me an opportunity to take a look and see what's going on down there.

Bingo!!!

Yesterday I changed my engine oil to Rotella T-6 with a Napa Gold filter and transaxle fluid to Amsoil Severe Gear 75-90. Also added magnetic drain plugs to both transaxle and oil and installed a DG Panzer Plate FMJ.

Oil change, air filter change and snow screen cleaning. Figured it was due after a hard northeast winter and lots of road salt and sand. Also changed the rubber coated exhaust mid- pipe mounts. They had seen the end of their life span. Overall a decent tune up day.

I figured out how to use Vag K+Can 2.5 and my Ross-Tech VCDS KII-USB cable to flash my W8 cluster to TDI mode. I also changed some LEDs around on the board (blue blinkers, red clock and odometer, orange cruise) and added the 180 ohm resistor and glow plug light. Checked everything and the GP light doesn't want to work. I'll have to figure that out, maybe trying a different LED and orientation? I think I have it right, though....

Scored an outside air temp sensor and a 1/2 MFA at the junkyard today: $28.

Besides working on the GP LED, I also have to finish inverting my displays. I need a MFA stalk and then I'll be good to go. I tried to get one from the Passat wagons at the yard, but none of them had keys so I couldn't get the steering wheels off to get the stalk out. Anyone parting a B5 wagon?

...there was another TDIclub member who got boned by a cross-border warranty.
VW of Canada wouldn't honour the warranty because the car had US plates and VW of USA wouldn't honor it because it was originally titled in Canada :(

Yep. What he said. Not really boned, just one of the hidden consequences of buying a car from another country.

The missus is going out of town for a few days, so the Golf got a new thermostat, seal and housing; fresh G-13, a Diesel Purge treatment, and a new cabin air filter. I also advanced the timing a bit because it was at the red line, and rotated the tires.

IBW has a new exhaust

We've changed supplier for flex pipes, switching to one that has an internal wall for longer life. Our fabricator wanted to test fit one to finalize the jig, so I offered IBW. Since the car was going to be in the air I asked if they could finally add a muffler: I've wanted one since we made this exhaust 5 years ago. He said sure, and made a new cat-back system for me with a muffler.

New exhaust is nice. The car is WAY quieter. I like that. With its current tune running low boost on the highway, it had gotten a kind of boomy above 80 MPH. Much nicer now.

Of course while under the car we found a broken CV boot. Always something.

Yep, new dogbone and exhaust will be going in next month! DP mount broke and mesh pulled away from flex section @ turbo end and dogbone is eating a hole in the Panzer Plate.

10 degrees here this AM. And the wagon is the only car I have left with snows on it. But I think the storm will be a bust. I'm expecting 2-3".

Masked off my door molding.

Made sure overspray was covered, and painted.

Looks good me thinks.

Matches the rear bumper I did last week, next week I'll do the front molding/trim.

Sent from my iPhone.

Haven't had time to post lately but lets see, I gave her some new shoes (Bridgestone), and am considering getting a full set of BFI stage 1 mounts (again). I just can't accept replacing oem mounts annually...

Single digits up here yesterday morning as well. It is supposed to get up to high 20s today. But none of the promised snow has materialized, and we are supposed to get up to the sweltering high 40s by the weekend. And rain. From ice to mud bog, my backyard transforms annually. Sigh...

Not today but last week I traded in the car. I've traded in my diesel badge of honor for an Audi A3 Quatro. The old Sootmobile had about 200K miles of less than gentle driving. The Quatro is only available in gas. I was seriously considering putting in a BKD engine in the car, but a week or two before I had dropped a grand on front wheel bearings and a tire. I didn't want to be spending $500/mo as things went wrong.

I do however intend to keep my finger on the pulse of the TDI Club and all it's doings, especially any local GTG's and who knows maybe another TDIFest or two. Of course if the Audi drives me nuts with poor gas mileage I'll find another diesel. All the best to such a great club and fantastic friends.

Im driving my Golf until I can get your Audi A3 quattro available in a tdi. Preferably a V-6 6M of course. I'm afraid I'll be driving my tdi forever lol.

I did test drive a Ford Explorer Sport with a turbo V-6 gasses a couple months back and was sooo dissapointed in that $50k 350hp truck... I like diesels, and will probably go with an Audi or even BMW next.

So long Jetta. I enjoyed it too, but only for about 10% of the total miles driven. I, too, am hanging on to diesels. What's more alarming Steve is I hear the A3 is an automatic.

That's the only way they sell the quatro here. Like Phil and everyone else I would have much rather gotten a diesel quatro with a 6-speed. What's interesting to me is that the '06 Jetta package 2 seemed to have more options than the audi; although the audi is the premium (base) package. Maybe when the gas engine dies I put in the BKD and really have the car I was after.
