My ABS (have had an intermittent lamp for RR wheel sensor) decided I was locking up when I was nowhere near, and I damn near blew a stop sign. Needless to say I ripped out the fuse until I can swap the sensor.

Oddly, In the snow storm today (on ExtremeWinterContacts) I noticed I was able to stop MUCH shorter than with the ABS, and without sliding, even on glare ice and without the benefit of EBD - which proves the ABS is way overprotective. Does anyone know if the ABS lockup sensitivity can be adapted in VCDS?

Well, tonight I removed the bumper cap and replaced some little screw clips that went missing on the passenger side. The cap was held into the fender lining by only one screw. Ooops!

I also pulled off my lower intercooler hose to check for oil....

Question: I have a Eurojet intercooler and it could possibly collect a fair amount of oil before it might leak oil out the bottom due to the way it's mounted. No oil came out at all. Does this mean I'm in the clear? Meaning, when a turbo goes, exactly how much oil collects in the intercooler????

Put a stack of washers on one of the skid plate mounts to stop it from creaking and popping all the time, hope that finally eliminates it.

Took my wagon to our dealer for rust repair inspection. They took photos, noted the VIN, completed some paperwork which I dutifully signed. They said they send the photos off for evaluation and will let me know. The owner of the dealership assured me it wouldn't be a problem, but we'll see.
Got my hatch replaced a few years ago by the rust warranty. It was already replaced in 2005 after I got rear-ended, but the autobody shop did a crap job when they put the window in and scratched the paint a bit where the frame meets the window. It started rusting almost the same year.
After fighting with that shop, I brought it to the other dealer in town with pictures and such a year or two later. The rust wasn't through the frame, but was bubbling the paint in a lot of areas around the rear window. I was expecting trouble from them, but it went rather well.....and no rust issues since then.:)

As for what's new...

Painted the brake calipers and carriers red...looks better than I expected, and so far it's lasted through this winter without any sign of wear.
(cleaning them was a ton of work though)

Replaced the rear brake pads with Akebono ceramic pads.
Replaced the rear brake rotors with corrosion resistant Zimmerman's.

Replaced the battery
Replaced the alternator

....I think that was it for the last year

I got Jay an OE battery at the dealer. We don't sell them, as we're not up on shipping restrictions (hazardous materials). Although I know there's lots of discussion about batteries here I'm a big fan of the OE batteries in TDIs. Seems that the ones in the newer cars aren't lasting as long, however.
The factory battery lasted about 8 years. The replacement one I got from the dealer lasted about 4. Could be that the batteries they use now are not as good.

Someone on here said that the dealers aren't using Varta batteries any more. I'll have to check that when I get home.....replaced the 4 year old one just last week. They said it was the 80ah one for TDIs. I trust these guys so I didn't look to close at it. But now I'm curious.

I got the HIDs (from FreakwithRacket) all wired up. Yay!

I also got the boost tap from ID Parts, and got the boost gauge up and working. Yay!

Saturday- 20K service on Passat (only 18700 but 1.5 years since 10k)washed all 3
Sunday-Golf, Back to normal tires, winters off, repair fender liner until trip to Crazy Ray's
20K was done at Antwerpen in the Dena, upon further review, I noticed that they spilled ad-blue/DEF in the trunk, long white streaks all over the right side. A scratch along the left top side of the roof (long, but small, most likely buffable) and my 1 liter of M1 ESP 507.00/504 is gone! Jack may say yes, I say What The Fudge!

Replaced the wiper fluid sensor that had gone bad. It worked out okay although getting that grommet in place was not as easy as I thought it would be.

Not my car, but I took my Hex-Net to a friend's house and we used it to get his daughter's 2003 Jetta TDI numbers down from 1.3L/hr and 10.5mg/str to .3L/hr and 2.8-3.0mg/str. Her last tank only took her 300 miles!

Car will run better but I doubt it'll fix the FE issue. Look at the usual other suspects (MAF, no boost, dirty intake, etc.).

Yeah, I'm going to let him do that - he just needed access to VCDS for this "tuning". The AutoScan listed some fault codes for him to track down also.

I went back, they game a castrol 507.00 an offered to clean up car, but it is gone. Castrol is 1 liter, UK Made and says for VWs, I see no other specs listed. Castol Edge LL03, no word about MB229.51 like M1 ESP 5-30, I wonder if I can use it in the Jeep which requires that spec?

Well, it's not actually in my car but it will be (along with FIS and perhaps LED changing):

I'm not done with it, but I couldn't wait testing it out. Subtle, but I think it looks great.

Filled the tires. That rust colored spot in the wheel well I promised myself I would have repaired last year? Too late. Rusted through and spreading. DAMNIT

How does one proceed to find reputable bodywork shops?

Had Dealership changer DPF and EGR filter under warranty

Long story short i had CEL P0401 since 45k miles but dind't bother taking to the dealer, at 60k finally took it for diagnostics that was Aug 2013 diagnosed Clogged EGR filter, but since its out of 24k warranty its not covered bought a new one ($178) they wanted to replace all together came to like 600$ parts and labor, which I declined and did it on my own in under 30 min.
62k miles CEL is back P0401 took it again, diagnosed they said was missing gasket, bought replaced, CEL still there and dealer told be "DPF isn't covered under warranty" so cold weather came no more CEL, as it warmed up March 2014 CEL back called VW of USA asked them to step it, and after 4 days DPF replaced under warranty

Interesting enough DPF is Re-manufactured PN is 1K0254706-LX MSPR - $1,120.00 compared to New $2,510.41

Im at 69k so will see how Remanufactured holds up

Any one else have experience with DPF ?

3M headlight restore kit

Totally endorse the Kit for Headlight Restoration from 'tres M'. My last was a $8 kit from the Harbor, on sale. It was good, but took much more time and was not nearly as effective as the one I used today. This product out of Minnesota is pure awesome. I paid three times the Harbor cost and could not have been more delighted with the results. I usually do not make endorsements, but this was a great surprise. I will from now on only recommend the more expensive kit, you all know the brand! M&M&M It took less time, the hook and loop attachments are fantastic, the third level sanding devise was a phenom! I had done the headlights on my 2007 Jetta a year prior and was only partially satisfied. After doing them again with the new product, they sparkle and have no shadow haze that I was unable to eliminate with the china product from HF. It also outperformed Mother's. If you have never tried doing this, now is the time. You only need a small drill (preferably corded), water, masking tape, and paper towels. Prepare for the mess, but the results were gratifying.

so glad you're delighted with your results :D...but those multi-step-test-in-inconspicuous-area-first type of products are way too involved for the incrementally better it might be than Meguiars PlastX™ Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish that only takes a few minutes/lens after every car wash...so up to 12X/yr giv'r take

IBW received it's 29th oil change this afternoon. 290K, want to hit 300 by year's end. Should be a piece of cake, but there are lots of other cars to drive around here. Put Total Quartz 7000 15w50 in for the summer.
