it wasn't today, but i've done a billion things. one thing i'm proud of is my mk1 skidplate i made out of an mk3 rear seat frame, using clamps and 2x4's, my drill and grinder. and some aluminum flashing i found in the shed for side-skirts. some shingle strips, construction adhesive and bedliner, and stainless screws/washers :) i used mk4 front sway bar clips + heater hose for the rear mounting, and a couple bolts up front. this requires a BFI front-crossmember bar and euro-sport X-bar :p

New grille finally came in. Opinion on body matching paint for it?

Next is getting my fogs wired up. Just came in this evening as well.

Edit: she's dirty. Contrast is a little more stark when clean. I drive about 250-300km per day for work

^ I have the same grille, I left mine black with reflex silver car.

Been a busy week - replaced hub/wheel bearing, did timing belt, tensioners, water pump, replaced license plate light bulbs, added a 1 metre strip of 5050 LEDs in the trunk (bloody bright now), and rolled over 250,000 km. Still love this car.

First, I replaced a two year old 60AH battery that the PO had installed. It wasn't even handling starting temps around freezing. Now she has the proper 72AH battery and is happy, happy, happy.

Secondly, I finally got around to installing the Evolution Atlas skid plate that I bought 1.5 years ago. Having witnessed a similar installation by two pros working on a car on a lift, I knew the basics. What they accomplished in about 45 minutes took this amateur (working on a car on ramps) about three hours.

Finally, my review of the Brown Line Metalworks torque wrench. While it looks good on paper, and feels good in the hands, it has two flaws that I just can't get over. 1. It goes to sleep after three minutes of inactivity, resetting the target torque setting. 2. If you accidentally touch any of the buttons, you reset the target torque setting. As I was working in tight quarters where I couldn't see the display while in use, I often accidentally reset it. Very frustrating. It might be ok when working topside or on a lift, but I was quite disappointed in it.

(disclaimer - this work was actually last weekend).

didn't get a chance to post the other night since the forum was being worked on, but I finished my road trip prep with replacing the air filter, fuel filter, cabin air filter.

I was hoping for some great MPG, but traffic pretty much ****ed any chance of that, Virginia and North Carolina killed my mileage to 40.3 MPG on the first leg and South Carolina and Jacksonville, FL dropped the second leg to 42.3 MPG. :(

At least the car felt fantastic with the new suspension and tires.

And now for something completely different...

Tomorrow the '12 Golf is going to Chills and the stock springs and Koni FSDs I had installed at 800 miles are coming out. Replacing them with these:

Dampers and springs from a 2-door 2.5L Golf. Car should sit a bit taller, ride a bit (or more than a bit) softer. I've never been thrilled with the ride quality on the Golf, thought it was too firm. And the Konis made it firmer, unlike what they did for my A4. Switching to 15" wheels helped, but this is something I've been meaning to try. The set has 15K on it, about the same as my car, and came from Florida, so no rust. We'll see what I think. Wish the new cars were as easy to do suspension swaps on as the older ones.

Suspension in the Golf. It sits a bit taller.

I think the ride is dramatically improved without being soft. And handling still feels great. Nice match with the 15" wheels and tires (not surprisingly, since that's what the 2.5 comes with). Chill also found a nail in one rear tire and balanced the other rear tire. That's an improvement, too. I'm eager to drive it more.

My jetta got its third battery for its life time. The last battery had a hard time after a cold soaked engine. Time to start it up after last night it going down to 10 below f... I purposely did to plug in the heater just for this test

And it rides and handles great. It's much more like a MKIV car with better than stock shocks, like my wagon was with Koni Reds. I wonder if the FSDs are valved firmer to fit a wider range of cars, and in the 2-door TDI end up being pretty firm. Whatever the difference is, this is now the way I want it.

Started installing Hella Micro DE's, had to modify my cheap Chinese fog light inserts, not quite done yet, I'm a bit annoyed that you have to switch on the headlights to get the fogs to come on.

Put on my newly painted (plasti-dip red)Winter radials/rims on my Golf. New tires on the front ones too. I also put stock rims back on my Passat for the winter.

My '03 Jetta TDI: idparts winter grill cover

My '00 Jetta 2.0: new antenna base and antenna, the old one was leaking water into the cabin so maybe its time to replace the tired headliner.

Her '03 Golf TDI: idparts winter grill cover, LED kit, new hatch struts

New honeycomb grill upper, Lower and fog light inserts. Also replaced front door speakers with Memphis components and Memphis 4" speakers. Sounds awesome and clear. Entire sound overhaul complete.

Take some pics from the driver's seat at night. If you have any "before" pics, they would help in the comparison.

You, sir, need a Euro switch! I had an 01 Jetta and it especially bothered me because the fogs are in the headlight housing. It's nice having them low in actual fog or heavy snow.

Hey Bert, I got them from Amazon Canada, they were on sale for 157cad, I got the last set for that price but they are on order again, also there are several sellers on ebay for that price from Germany with free shipping!
Alright some more night pictures, that was all my camera could do, pics don't reflect the actual output :( also the road is wet.

Did you paint the mesh? It looks good with the "floating" VW

Well i have 2 TDI's that wont start... i blame the batteries, their barely turning over... -43C or -45F however you take it... its COLD...

my MKIV stalled on the highway with no fuel in the filter, so i have to sort that one out... my MKV has a near dead battery, barely has enough juice to turn the motor over...

Jeep started in about 4 seconds... auto tranny did not want to shift at all...

Searching on the forums reveal little about your 2 differential pressure sensors on a board with a small micro for VNT control. Care to share some details? A PM would be okay if you don't want to make it all public yet ;).

Well it's not what I did today, however the last couple weeks... Monster matts, 3 inch down and mid pipe from diesel dubs, and stage 2 tune for the engine and DSG tranny, oh one more thing, a set of 17 inch momo rims with falken euro winter tires.
