Put it to work hauling home a new toy.

Towing eyes make great attachment points for bow/stern lines, grabbed a second one from the dealer for 10 bucks.

I'm driving it on a College Road trip. My son graduates this Spring and we are doing the tour around Kentucky. We visited Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond yesterday, and are heading to Lexington to see UK's campus today.

My son's a brilliant guy -- honor student, runs cross country, plays the viola and is an Eagle Scout. l'm a proud papa!

2003 Jetta Tdi Wagon, Bought September 2009 with 60,000 Km on the clock. Died September 2013, at 142,000 km. in a collision with a moose. 2006 MklV BEW Jetta wagon Bought October 2013, 136,000 Km.
Struggled to re-install the skid plate from my old wagon on to my new one. The mounting brackets have been redesigned in the meantime, and I buggered up the intercooler ducting trying to fit them in. Ugh.

Flashed back to my stock map just in time for the huge snowstorm! Also fiddled around with my VCDS. Finally got my IQ to 4.8 and raised my idle to 990rpm. Fun!! :D

Love it! I have not put a canoe up on my Whispbar rack YET, getting one this coming summer. Kayaks and snowboards though, loving the flush Whispbar system.

The Whispbars are probably one of the best things I did with the car so far. Great for the bike racks or the canoe, but sadly the boat is too wide for me to have even a single bike up there as well.

I suppose I could have done it with bars that extend past the towers, but that always looks awful and those bars generally make much more noise then these ones.

Hello YVR!

Did you sleeve your block, or is that how beefy the 1.9L is? I've never seen a TDI block without pistons.
Nice and clean!! Very nice work. :)

No sleeves but I did have it bored to the first oversize.

The pistons are in there but they are hiding half way down the bores. ;-)

210xxx miles:
- Replace Oil & Filter (Rotella T6 and Mann filter) - Check
- Replace air filter - check
- Diesel Purge - not quite so well. Printed and followed the guide, but ended up getting air in the system.
- Replace fuel filter - Prefill with unused Diesel Purge - Check
- Spent next hour priming and de-aerating fuel system. Came inside to read up on this technique after much cursing. Had used Mity-Vac to suck fuel through the injector pump, but apparently had air in injector lines. Cracked those lines, covered with towels until evidenced that they were soaked in diesel.
- Cabin air filter is going to have to wait until my mood improves.

• Installed new Mk20 ABS pump with ASR/EDL. Bled ABS pump, brakes and clutch. Road test to check EDL and ASR function (works well on gravel!) and test ABS function before immediately driving 460 miles. It was good that I did a thorough road test because I ended up slamming on the brakes while traveling 72mph to avoid a deer. The pedal is a little spongy during light braking compared to before, will likely do another cycle of bleeding.

• Put on snow tires, mud flaps, and winter front end cover.

Gave Alice a Deluxe wash to get rid of all the grime and road salt.

Realized that I really enjoy the 'stock' tune with the mods I have (sorry Mark!)
Not peaky or scary over boost, slower, more predictable run up to max boost (30psi) and after my VCDS tweaks yesterday, much less smoke, and very quiet again. :D!

Just right for another tuning option...but not software ;D

Sounds like the same regime Stinky-Pete follows :)
Have you tried 5mm wheel spacers on the fronts?
In my mk4 Jetta they give sharper turn-in and easier controlled drift through the roundabouts ;)

I passed a solar plug in Prius that also had 57 mpg post all over, I had to blow by him on entrance ramp because he was to slow, it was 2 lanes, so not dangeous.

Drove it down to Concord to check out the upcoming QuickJack from BendPak's Ranger division, then over to Benicia to tour the old State Capitol building, finally along the Sacramento River on CA 160 toward Sacramento.

Drove the B4 to western MA into 30-40 MPH headwinds (noisy) and swapped it for my son's Golf which has a boost leak, vacuum leak, dragging caliper, and slipping clutch. Despite that it was a quick ride home because I was traveling with the wind.

Dropped the Golf at Chill's and picked up the wagon, which got all new vacuum hoses, new glow plug harness, and a turbo actuator adjustment. Turbo is much more responsive which may be both the hoses and the adjustment. Most of the hoses were original. And the glow plug harness lasted 235K. Not bad.

"Installed" my HTC EVO 4G onto the top of the steering column and paired to the Super Mini ELM327 Bluetooth module.

I picked up the EVO on EBay for $50 (Hint: Find one with a bad ESN since you won't be using it as a cell anyways).

Picked up the ELM327 for $10

Bought Torque Pro for $4.95 (though there are free, less sophisticated apps available)

And made the mount from scrap I had laying around and double sided tape.

Now I will be able to monitor Exhaust Gas and Coolant temps as I climb the hills to Vegas.

$150 scangage what??

Hey - I really like that. Now if I could just get all that info over OBDII in my ALH my dash would be a bit cleaner...
