Some dogs don't get it. They just chew anything they can slobber on. Yet another reason I don't have one.
Mine is still a pup, I got a chuckle out of the feeding comment, I stuff as much food down her throat as she'll eat lol.

Back on topic- today I washed the Golf. It was raining for 2 whole days here in Socal, ewww!

My dog doesn't chew anything, he just leaves long white hair all over the car interior.

And my daughter is loving the rain. She says the sun in SoCal gets tiresome.

Rain is a nice change from severe clear that I used to live through in Phoenix, so NH is different. 4 seasons and all that, too.

But rain does get annoying when things start to turn green that were some other color before.

THIS!

Then again I've lived here for a while. SoCal is a nice alternative, but depending on where in here you are, the climate can vary between mountain, desert/arid, beach. It's a bit urban so when the sun comes out, there is nowhere to hide either.

Edit: Oh an these showed up on my doorstep a very short while ago

Phil, what kind of dog?
She was a rescue and they said she was a Black Mouth Cur. That sounds real funny as a Cur is basically slang for mutt. However, Internet searches say they're a southern bred hunting dog. She'll be about 50-60 lbs, classic black muzzle with short hair tan body. Very protective and loyal.

Just put on my Whispbars tonight before heading into work. Looks AWESOME! Just need to re-adjust it after a day or so of driving and throw the bike carriers on.

Seriously thinking about one of those rear bumper covers...

Turned over 200k miles - bought it at 13k miles in December of 2004 and have only had to fix......well, most everything at some point, but mostly all of my own doing - reference my username :)

Still, one of the best vehicles I've ever owned.

Here's to another 200k

Getting ready to play with the IP in the 2003 Jetta, I decided to check the IQ in the '98 Jetta. It was 1.6, and I couldn't adjust it electronically. So, I used the Hammer Mod method on it, and now it's at 3.6. Took it for a drive, and something sounded awful. Noisey, clunky. My son drives the '98 car... So, we had to have a talk about being aware. Alignment didn't look right on the pulleys, so I pulled the lower pan off, and one long bolt was captured in the pan. Both power steering bracket bolts are broken. So, I'm working on extracting the remainder of the bolts that rather than my '03. Will put the KLR650 back together tonight so I can at least have a back up plan.

Installed JL Audio 6 channel amp with. 8" power bass sub in a ported box and Memphis component speakers in the rear. It rocks out! Probably will do the same up front and add some 3.5 or. 4" Memphis with them.

Yesterday,

Alternator pulley 3 - Nicolas 0.

I started by soaking with penetrating oil every day before leaving work for the last few days.

I used the MN tool with some long steel pipe on the ends of my wrenches for leverage with the alt still in the car - wouldn't budge. I removed the alt, and (I know you're not supposed to) used an impact tool - wouldn't budge. I had to let my impact cool down.
I obtained a MAPP torch and heated the inner ring of the pulley cherry red (probably dumb with all the penetrating oil, but the fire blew out) - still wouldn't budge. (On the plus side, I can now make crème brûlée and solder copper pipe...). Short of an angle grinder, I'm not sure how the heck else to remove it (and odds of damaging the alt itself seems pretty high with that approach).

So it looks like I'm in the market for a new alternator, even though mine is perfectly good except for the pulley. Grrrrrr....

On Saturday I unfastened the rear of the front wheel well liners and hosed out the accumulated dirt. Then I hosed down the underside of my dds with WD-40. Next, I need to make some cosmoline as a chaser. After that I will feel like my cars have a chance to survive the winter.

Not to be an ass, but are you turning the pulley in the correct direction?

If you are working with the alt off the car, put a wrench on the outer tool bit, and your impact on the inner tool bit. Then put the impact on TIGHtEN. Blammo!

I would think his alternator is already BLAMMO from the heat applied to the nose bearing...(pays to Search the forums)

No, it was definitely on tighten, but it's a valid question & would be an easy mistake to make. I only have a cordless impact to be fair (the pneumatic variety might have helped) but I put all my weight on the cheater bars and the only motion was from my wrench bending.

Doh! I'm hoping not, but it may be moot anyway if the pulley won't ever come off. It's not making any more noise than it already did, and it's still charging OK. I had no choice but to reinstall as it's my DD (I don't have a beater), and it was late & getting cold out. I may just keep throwing tensioners and belts at it for a while until the alt actually dies. The price of a new alternator is not very attractive...

It's true the heat from the pulley failing can sometimes be enough to kill the bearings in the alternator. That said, I find a sharp hit with a hammer on the wrench sometimes works better than long cheater bars.

The inside of the pulley was heated to cherry red with a MAPP torch.

Install OEM Bi-Xenon with a lowline CECM and fogs but I need to wire the fogs.

Sorry for the bad picture.
