Oh, claybar. Use a clay bar a couple times a year. It really helps cutting down on the waxing, washing and polishing.:D

DING DING DING! we have a winner. I am soo desperately in need of washing my Golf, but I clay it every time, and it does wonders! a good couple hours goes a LOONG way

Rear guard is nice, Tomo. Where did you get it? I had my detailer put clear bra on my Golf bumper, which I hope helps.

Ooo, I never thought about one of those. That part of our 03 Jetta is beeeeaaattt.

Oh, I flushed the anti-freeze/coolant on mine because I had to use non G12 for a couple of days because we drained a bunch out when we did the intake cleaning and I didn't have any G12 on hand. :(

Installed ADI from Snow Performance, quite noticeable KICK when activated.

Rolled 250,000 Miles

ALMOST decided to park in an Electric hybrid only parking spot, but eventually found a spot.

Track day in the Miata yesterday. Pitiful weather, the only good thing you could say about the track conditions was there was no standing water. But it was a lot of fun, even though it was an unfamiliar car in slippery conditions. Good for keeping me attentive.

And this morning I filled up the 300D. Last fill up was on December 27. Too many cars, perhaps?

Well, I filled up my Miata yesterday; first time since November. It was pretty much parked the last 3 months due to an O2 sensor problem; fixed last Saturday.

Sunday, I took the Jetta down to my Mom's to get a 5 gallon metal bucket w/ about 2 quarts of used engine oil and four pistons from my long-gone Sunbeam Alpine(s).

Finally got a new windshield.

This is what the old one looked like when it was clean. An absurd amount of pitting and scratching.

Installed auto-dimming rain-sensing mirror. Don't have rain-sensing wiring finished, but auto-dimming works like a champ!

Also topped it off with some new wipers...boring, I know. Giving the Bosch Evolution a try. My first "bracketless" wiper blade. We'll see what the hype is all about.

OK, so I gotta ask: what does rain sensing do for a mirror? Does it shake itself off on occasion? ;)
Haha. Good one. :) I'll try spraying the mirror and see if it does the dog shake. :) I kind of wish I had run the wires now. Turns out if you have the proper relay for the auto rain sensing wipers you lose intermittent unless you have the sensor wired up. Oh well. The Safelite guy seemed to think I was crazy to go through the hassle of adding the auto dim rain sensing setup to my car as it's "too much work." When he popped off the windshield and saw all the wires I had run to the top of the windshield (auto dim, rain sense, W8 panel, TomTom hardwire, Valentine 1 hardwire) he exclaimed I should have been an electrical engineer. I work at a design-build firm as the IT Manager and work with Owners/Project Managers on electrical installations for buildings. :)

Very nice. Welcome to the 6 speed club. Hopefully us Gulf Coast guys have a meet soon and we can all meet some fellow local TDI'ers.

All I did to my car is take pictures of all the crap around here I have to sell. Hopefully I'll make a post this weekend. My living room and shop is cluttered with VW/TDI parts.

Nothing as fancy as an exotic new tranny, but after I had the head overhauled, etc, decided to Diesel Purge the injectors in preparation for having Fuelly on my sig :)

Did a fuel filter retrograde today. Last month I traded the lube specialist cat filter for a nicktane but couldn't ever get the nicktane to stop leaking air.

Today installed a stock Hengst filter. Kerma widget was too tight- o-rings were getting shaved, so grabbed a stock tee out of my box and used the jack bombay fuel line loop to bypass the tee.

Installed BFI Stage 1 motor mounts today to replace the stock ones @ 230k. The stock ones had a lot of play in them, but they weren't broke. Now everything is nice and stiff and I feel like I'm in a tractor when I start it up. I heard they wear in, but honestly, I don't care. I like it.

Did a quick and dirty fix for my 4-dr's alarm paranoia. I had previously checked and the last 4 alarms were because of the hood. That was a while ago, and I have not been locking the car for a while until I got around to fixing it.

The symptom is when the alarm goes off by itself, usually when you're asleep at night. The fix was to disable the switch at the hood latch, since I am not going to go looking for a new switch.

The first try was to unplug the switch at the connector behind the right headlight assembly. After sticking a wire into the socket and having the alarm go off, I realized the switch is normally closed. I.e., the switch is closed and there is conductivity through the circuit when the hood is open. So, the fix is the same as the DRL fix - tape one of the plug blades so that it won't make contact. It is either that or unplug the switch and just leave it unplugged.

So, now I can start locking my car again, without wondering if it will try and wake the neighbors at night.

Friday i got the the first 10,000 mile oil change in the NMS - '12 Passat. I picked it up in early November '11...
I really do not like the location of the oil filter, as when you pull out the filter, oil drips on the hose cover for something else. Kinda annoying... I asked to see the tech pull it out, and they forgot, so they had me come back after the car was all back together, and he showed me where it was (I knew that part). I asked about dripping oil on the engine parts, and he said that is 'normal'.

It's normal in that all techs do that. I have to try very very hard not to have any drips when pulling my filter out. I wouldn't worry to much it won't cause any harm other than looking a little more grimy.

It seems the smallest drip of sooted oil spreads over 1000sqft with little ease.

If it's "normal" then it should be also be 'normal' to lay down a rag or something to catch the drips.

Common sense is more of an exception then the norm.

Isn't that the stupid truth. I design machines for a living and we used to hire competent assemblers, not so anymore. Not only do I need to design them for the un-smart operators, but more than often I need to design them for the un-smart assemblers. Not all of them, but most.
