More progress !! I sent this note to Wetterauer:

Maybe we can get some cars "chipped" at the Bash. Think of it as a small part of the "icing on the cake" everyone is puttig in to this.

Some E-Mails their way sure wouldn't hurt!

Dear Wetterauer:

You may have heard about the VW TDI Forum which represents several thousand Volkswagen TDI owners. Its at:
http://www.tdiclub.com

They have organized a nationwide gathering of VW TDI owners to be held in Wilmington, NC over the 2000 Labor Day weekend.

I am running the www site for the gathering:
http://users.erols.com/crippel/TDI_Labor_Day_Event/tdi_labor_day_event.html

It occurred to me that you might want to send a representative to attend. Consider chipping some cars and make it a profitable weekend.

I'd love to include your attendence on the www page.

I got this response

Hi Chuck,
I'll talk to Frank Wetterauer about it, and see what he thinks. Sounds like fun to me!

Nice! I am talking to Kelly about it and I'm one of her favorites so I won't have to twist her arm! The more the merrier, plus we want this GTG to be truly WETT N' WILD......

Excellent!! I for one would be prime pickings for Wetteraur. Watch the "supercars" do their thing, get extremely envious and feel lacking. Plunk down the dollars for instant satisfaction. No downtime for me. Impulse consumerism satisfied. Wett would make a killing, not to mention the publicity they would get.

Well, THAT was sure at least a worthwhile try for everyone (including ME)! Here's hoping they come.

Has what events the $500 prize money will be awarded for been decided? I'd like to put it on the www site.

Kelly,

I read above that you may be coming to the
Carolina TDI GTG to represent Wetterauer of
America. That would be excellent, I will be there
too and would be pleased to meet you in person as
you have done outstanding service to all of us TDI
owners.

Hope that you can make it. BTW, I am putting up
$500 prize money for the fastest TDI's at the meet.

Cya,

Thom Andresen

BTW, many WETT TDI's will be there too!
Even the Tazzman is coming down out of the Great White North for a visit to civilization here in America!

Not yet, I am thinking Top A4 ET, A3 ET, stock and modified classes, what do you think? It has to be objective and not associated with "Rice."

Works for me. How about longest drive to get there? To recognize the economy aspect, I wonder if there could be some mileage based prize class also?

My GPS, with the recently declassified satellites, can plot down to 10-12 feet now under good conditions, so YES, long distance is objective and easy to prove. I think that is a good class too!

Hi Thom,
I may have to come to just to meet you in person!! I have been getting a
lot of email about this, it seems we could do a lot of biz over the long
weekend.

Kelly

Great Kelly, if you can make it be sure to do it since there are alot of TDI
people who owe you a great debt of good service. We would be more than happy
to have you come and represent Wetterauer at the GTG. Plenty of time to plan,
maybe even the wizard himself could come over from Germany to relax and enjoy
the festivities. With the new EPA diesel fuel regulations, maybe VW & Audi
TDI's will have a long and joyous future in the USA after all.
Keep it in mind and let me know, I too would be glad to meet you!

Take care.......Thom
