A couple of weeks before the July 4th holiday our diesel prices here in central NC went down by about 50cents per gallon. I went through two tanks while the prices were low(er) and lost 6mpg on one fill up (still had about 1/3 tank at fill) and 8mpg on the second tank. Now the price has gone back up and my lost MPG's have also returned. All fill ups at the same Shell station i always get my fuel from. Same routes driven at usual speeds. No codes. running perfectly same as always.
What are the chances it was winter blend fuel? anyone have any other possible reason for the lost MPGs?
I'm getting close to 190K miles on her now and just a bit paranoid about my HP fuel pump. Should i be proactive and swap it before it grenades? I have never run a tank below 1/4. i also have never used any fuel additives
