Oh for crying out loud.....h 1 t L & R is censored? Really? He was a historical figure, and I was drawing a parallel.

Sheesh. Political correctness.....

We have dozens of 'trigger' words blocked for various reasons, none of which involve political correctness. In the case of Adolf and his fascist party, first it's to force people to embrace Godwin's Law and second to discourage white supremacists from hanging around. Yes, in the past we have had white supremacists join and try to spread their racism.

And this, to my mind, is completely sufficient to warrant its being blocked. In fact, Godwin's Law may be seen as corollary to a wider principle, that of "Dog-Whistle Politics," (cf. #41 on the posted link, which states that there are a number of "trigger" words or phrases that produce automatic, unthinking reactions. Alternatively, it can be seen as "Guilt By Association," (#55) in which it is supposed to be a given that if I'm against The Man from Braunau am Inn, anything you argue places you in support of him, therefore whatever you say is invalid. Of course, Godwin's law is restated, more or less, as #102 on the list, "Reductio ad ******um."
Let's confine our arguments to the facts, that is one of the great virtues of TDI Club.

I prefer the tradition of whomever invokes Godwins Law automatically loses the argument to censorship of historical figures. Godwin himself has stated that he is not in favor of his "law" being used to justify censorship. I am more of the school of "never forget" , than "It was a long time ago, let's just forget about it".

I am a strong supporter of the first amendment (which of course isn't binding on a Canadian site). But, I also believe in being civil, having civil discourse and just being nice to each other. I have said this before on this site and is my opinion, that people that fall to name calling have weak arguments in the discourse. It is like a child calling someone a poopy head. Words do matter, but I also believe that political correctness should not stymie the first amendment...Mark

If the answer is "they didn't want to license AdBlu" then what was the problem with the Passat? Mine had AdBlu from the get-go. It wasn't added on. Isn't that true of all the 2015 Passat TDIs?

Yes, my 2013 Passat TDI had AdBlue, the 2012's did as well.

Then the question becomes: Why didn't they use Adblue on the other cars? Maybe it was the cost of redesign on a car like the Beetle. Who knows? The fact is that they chose not to for whatever reason and that resulted in the cheat and we know the rest. One could speculate on the whys of it, but that is really kind of irrelevant, because it is done, they paid and they are still the biggest car manufacturer in the world, I don't really see how they have suffered at all...Mark
