Water trapped in trunk lid

I noticed after a car wash the other day that water was collecting INSIDE my trunk lid. I can hear it sloshing back and forth when lifting and lowering the lid.

It seemed to drain itself over the next 24 hours or so.

Heavy rain last night, sloshing is back.

Took it to my service manager, he could hear it, will take it back when I can leave it for half a day.

Potential rust issue, also its still cold enough to freeze at night, ice is a powerful force in confined spaces.

Anyone else notice this problem?

I do not have pictures, but the water is inside the trunk lid, not leaking into the trunk, its dry inside the trunk, but its getting inside the lid itself.

there is a channel at the base of the rear window and sides of the trunk, if that is what you mean.....i think it is normal for water to run off this channel.
No, not in the channels, this water is actually inside the trunk lid , in between the welded layers of the lid itself. I think the water is running off of the rear window, into the channels around the trunk, but is somehow getting INSIDE the lid (trunk cover, the part that raises and lowers), and as I lift and close the lid slowly, I can hear water sloshing back and forth, I do not know how else to explain it.

Yea, you'd want that fixed and I am sure VW would want to know of this one because if your car has it there are sure to be others. This could put a dent in their rust warranty expenses.

No doubt, its going in Thursday 0800.

Some growing pains are to be expected on a first run body style, but as you said, if I have the problem, I am quite sure I am not the only one.

They will run water over the trunk area to duplicate the problem, find the leak, and hopefully rectify the problem.

i do a lot of work on boats.

if they repair the existing lid then the most important thing will be to blow some hot dry air through it to make sure all moisture is removed before they caulk/seal it.

IMO if they replace the lid altogether then it would be a quicker fix.
