Got a letter today in the mail for this warranty extension for 10 years/120,000 miles, with a reimbursement form if you already paid. For certain CJAA and CKRA 2012 and 2013 engine codes.

This is my first new car and so far I've been very satisfied that VW continues to extend warranties on parts that have been shown to be defective. Better to not have defective parts in the first place, but there's always some learning with new designs. At least they're by-and-large standing up to do the right thing. So far HPFPs, Turbos, air bag spring coil thingy (forget the correct term) and now exhaust flaps. What next? Adblue heater? Sway bars? RNS-510?

extended flap warranty

Probably a whole car warranty next for 10 years/120k miles. ;)
Just got my flap extension. My 2013 will hit the 3 year factory warranty next month. Should I just sit tight, do my scheduled maintenance and recalls, and wait and see what vw might do as far as extended warranty offerings? Car has been great for 20k and 3 years so far (knock on wood).

Mine just hit 41k with no issues so far. I like it very much. My company is in a pending merger and if that happens a huge layoff will happen and I will more than likely be included. Barring that happening I will keep my Passat at least until the 100k mark where my GEICO MBI runs out. Then I will have to decide. If the layoff happens I will sell the Passat and use one of my backup cars I keep around. Currently a one owner 2002 Honda Civic EX coupe 5 speed I gave $1400 for, and in very nice condition.

Hmmm... "...certain 2012-2013..." Is the design of the exhaust flapper different on 2014s? If not, I wonder why the 2014s aren't included in the 10/120k extended warranty?

No letter for me yet, late 2013 build. Wonder if a updated flap was also part of the rolling change that included the 0020 turbo and gas hood strut

Sometime in the 2013 production run the cars got a few updates - hood strut, different turbocharger, and now seemingly a potentially a different exhaust flap.

But not necessarily all at the same time. Our '13 Passat has the hood gas strut, but we got the letter giving us the turbocharger extended warranty. As far as the exhaust flap, we've had no trouble with anything but the rear O2 sensor (the one that gives you the "200 miles to go because you're out of AdBlue, but you're not" message), which was replaced under warranty.
It looks like we're just shooting in the dark when it comes to these things- the only way we'll know for sure is if we get the letter from VW. And given the expense involved, I'm not sure I blame VW for handling it this way.

The 2012 I just bought has the cel on for the flap. I presume this should be a no question covered item per info in this thread?

I just had mine done yesterday, on my 2012 Jetta with 85K miles. No problem. when they saw the P047F code they did with no questions asked.

Prior to us getting this letter and car being out of warranty, we had it repaired at a independent shop. After getting the letter I didn't happen to see the wording (pointed out by another TDI forum member--THANK YOU) that it's to be repaired at a VW dealer to get reimbursed. To me, that's BS! Car is out of warranty so it shouldn't make a difference as long as problem is fixed. Spoke w/ VW and they will review my claim once sent in. May just get reimbursed for part only which again would be bull.

I think it would be reasonable if the repair was done before the warranty letter was received, and if the independent shop's charges were in line. Otherwise, I think the claim could probably be disallowed (in the first case) and perhaps only partially reimbursed in the second.
We all have our opinions about what constitutes fair treatment, or what is "bull," but there is a tendency to lose sight of the fact that warranties are almost invariable limited, by time or mileage, and VW does appear to be taking action on issues that arise- whether it be the turbocharger, high pressure fuel pump, or exhaust flap. Now if those of us driving AdBlue cars could only get a nice warranty extension on that pesky tank heater......

Went and talked to the local VW dealer in town yesterday. Confirmed warranty, and knowing it's a P048C code, I had no qualms of making an appointment for Friday morning to have it fixed.

Just picked mine back up today. Dealership was very nice even though I'd just purchased the vehicle elsewhere. Didn't try to shenanigan me on anything and gave the car a clean bill of health on the inspection sheet even.

Are you supposed to see a MPG increase with this being fixed? I showed an average of 42 MPG driving straight through the city of Fort Wayne on the way home. LOTS of stop and go. That was a nice thing to see.
