• The TDIClub classifieds section is a heavily trafficked section of the forum that encompasses want-to-buy (WTB) and for-sale (FS) threads for the entire world. Due to the demanding nature and fast pace of this section, it is imperative that you know and understand the rules. It is also important to remember that this is the only parts classifieds section.

Cross-posting and posting classifieds in the regional sections (except the dedicated thread in Ontario) is not permitted.

Multiple items should be sold in one thread. Make sure to provide a description for all items in your post along with pictures and prices. If you start multiple threads with individual items, they will be locked or combined at the discretion of the moderators.

Here is a quick outline of the classifieds section rules. If you don't follow these rules, you subject yourself to thread deletion, thread combination, infractions, or posting privilege revocation.

    Thread titles:
    • Put FS or WTB in your thread title. This will let other users know if you are selling or buying.
    • Briefly describe what you are selling. Thread titles have limited space. Be as descriptive, yet succinct, as possible.
    • Put your location in the title.
    • If space allows, put your price in the title

Title example (single item): "FS: 2004 Mk4/BEW cylinder head - Portland, OR - $500"
Title example (multiple items): "FS: MK6 fog lights, front bumper, headlights, grill - Detroit, MI"
Title example (car part-out): "FS: Mk3 Jetta parting out engine & interior - Dallas, TX"

    Thread text descriptions and pictures:
    • All for-sale threads must include pictures of the items that you are selling. One picture is sufficient, but multiple pictures with different angles will help buyers. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you don't know how to post pictures on TDIClub, see this thread: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=286691
    • All for-sale threads must include a description. We don't charge per-word, so be as descriptive as possible. The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for buyers.
    • All for-sale threads must include a price. Auctions and bidding are not allowed. If you want to auction something off, use eBay.
No picture, no price, NO SALE!

    Thread maintenance/updates/bumps:
    • When you sell something, update your thread with "SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title.
    • If you have multiple items for sale, update your thread as each item has been sold. When everything has been sold, updated the thread with "ALL ITEMS SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title when all items have been sold.
    • If you bump your thread, please delete old bumps by clicking on EDIT and then deleting the old bump. This will reduce clutter in your thread and make it easier to read. It also makes you look less desperate.
    • If you drop your price, please update your first post in addition to posting the new price. If you would like the thread title changed, click on the report post icon and let a moderator know what you would like the title changed to.

    Moderator intervention and infraction points:
Moderators will be monitoring the classifieds section. If a moderator determines that you have not been following the rules listed above, corrections will be made and infraction points will be assessed to your account.

What is an infraction point? Simple - it's a system of keeping track of user behavior. A moderator can assign a point value based on the severity of the infraction, as well as an expiration date on the points assessed. If you accumulate a certain number of points, the system will auto-ban you for a predefined amount of time. The more points you accumulate, the longer your ban period will be.

One example of points is as follows: multiple threads will be combined into a single thread, with the number of infraction points assessed corresponding to the number of threads merged. If we merge four threads into one, then you will be assessed four points that expire in 30 days. When you reach five points, the system will auto-ban you for one day.*

*This is an example based on the current infraction system structure. We reserve the right to modify the infraction system at any time without notice or updates to this announcement.

Thank you for your cooperation, and good luck with your sales and searches! :)

Yep I saw those too but I'm going to make the effort to try and find the one above first :) If I don't then I will just buy another swan neck and weld/bolt a reciever to it.

So does anyone know if Bosal made it or was it a Etrailers creation? I have calls/messages out to both so far. If I can find he manufacturer or whoever owns the tooling/design it would be awesome start.

My understanding was Bosal made it but this side of the pond it was only available via retailer from etrailer.

I called Etrailers they told me they simply stopped carrying Bosal products which is why they no longer sell it. He tried to call their old Bosal contact but the number had changed and suggested I call them. Which I will.

I think we used to have a Bosal Rep visit Fred's. OH might remember his screen name. I would buy an adaptor if they weren't too pricey. With all the DIY hitches we have here, maybe a member will fab some for a group...

I'd fab my own in the end by buying another swan neck and cutting /welding a reciever but if I can avoid it and get a "pretty solution" I'll do that first.

The swan neck is already 125$ so hacking it up isn't a good solution yet...

The tricky part is getting the socket mount portion as that is very unique to bosal. It would be costly to duplicate it.

I remember hunting for this also as it would have swayed me to go with a Bosal hitch. Had no luck (I ended up having a custom hitch fabricated instead).

You might ask IDParts if they would have any luck tracking it down or talking to Bosal about availability in the US market again. It sure would be a great addition for Bosal hitch owners in our market.

Hey Steve, yeah, I remember seeing that in my searches as well. He had it custom fabricated. It's a good concept, but I'd definitely prefer the Bosal 2" adapter if I ever went that route. The only downside to it is that it does hang down a bit, whereas my custom hitch has the receiver about level with the bottom of the bumper with a cutout, so you have much more clearance back there.

So the problem with fabricating a Bosal adaptor is recreating the detachable portion?
Yeah, it is a proprietary connecting piece that appears to have some pretty intricate moving mechanisms that lock it into the hitch. Seems the best bet would be to get a second swan neck and have a welder modify it to attach at 2" receiver similar to the one Bosal made themselves. But that is getting into some serious $$$.

That's what I plan on doing if I go the fab route. I'll just buy another swan neck (100$ not cheap) and cut/add a 2" reciever and some gussets etc. It's not for towing, just for acessories.

Honestly, welding on the arm probably weakened it... So for towing not a great idea. But in reality probably didn't make that much difference.

The other downside I see is the reciever is not a through design, some add ons might not fit as nice since the depth isnt there.

Lastly... I'd probably do the same thing :)

2" receiver adaptor.

I made my own 2" receiver adaptor for my Bosal goose neck.
I welded an 3/8" steel plate below the ball, then purchased an 2" receiver stub and welded it to another 3/8" steel plate. I used 1/2" SS socket head cap screws to bolt it to the hitch. I also welded two safety chain rings to it.

I did this so I could haul our bikes. I purchased the 2010 TDI Sports wagon to tow an 1200 LB car on an aluminum trailer to track days.

Sold the little car and am stuck with a black sheep car. It has been a great car, just need another open sports car, for street use.

I had posted photos back when I did the mod.

The photo of the one welded looks like mine. I never had any issues with it. I never expected to either. Just make sure you can weld, or get a good shop to do it for you.

Just 4 Socket head cap screws to remove it if you need to. On a steep drive way at one of our houses it would scrape if not careful.

Sorry about that Gary, didn't mean to fail to credit you! Even vw_leadfoot said it wasn't his design, I just couldn't find your original pictures.

Did you do a full write up when you modified the swan neck?

So haven't got anywhere with Bosal yet (not returning emails or calls)

But... I found out a couple things.

Chevy HHR's use bosal as factory tow options so that expands the market for this part

And apparently Tesla does too, and the tesla towing kit in the US still comes with that reciever adapter...

It's all hearsay but things I've found so far doing a bit of research. So that part is still being made.

As seen here on the tesla...

I've contacted Tesla

Good research. The only trick will be finding out whether there are any minor differences that would make it not work with the Bosal VW hitches. Did you confirm that it is in fact made by Bosal (not Westphalia or another manufacturer)?

Here's a video of it. Sure looks like the Bosal to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGhnpXQySAc
EDIT: And more info: http://www.teslarati.com/how-to-install-tesla-model-x-hitch/

The tesla hitch is 100% bosal. That's already confirmed. A tesla owner i taking pictures for me and getting the part # :)
Cool. Yeah, I gathered that it was Bosal after reading around on the forums a bit more. It looks like the same part has finally resurfaced (thanks to Tesla leading the way as usual).

Next issue will be whether they would allow non-Tesla owners to buy the part. If it is sold through them, that might be a problem because of liability issues for Tesla. Not many of us have friends with Model Xs.
