Hi, just spoke to Walmart Canada today. They have just added to stock Mobil Delvac 1 Diesel 5W40 oil. Its should be in the stores any minute now. I check the Newmarket store and Barrie and they had not received it or new what I was talking about. Head office confirmed I was correct.

Steve, if you sell Amsoil, isn't a little odd that you would want Wal-Mart to carry it? Cause Wal-Mart sure wouldn't sell it for $8.00 a quart.
That thirty odd cases in your inventory would gather some dust.

The 18 year old stock clerk at WalMart would be totally unable to explain the benefits of any synthetic oil - this is precisely why Amsoil has sold their products through independent dealers since the very begining.

People that buy Mobil 1 and Castrol syntec at Walmart already know what they want and are simply getting the best price - good luck finding anybody that knows anything about synlubes at any auto parts store ....

Sorry for the rant ...too many glasses of "Cab" tonight! At least it was an excellent vintage (Mondavi) ....

KO:

AMSOIL folks are not always in it for the money. If we were, then any ol' oil would do and we'd be recommending 3,000 mile change intervals to make more money.

FYI - AMSOIL holds the trademark on the term - "Extended Drain Intervals," - and in essence is trying to sell less oil for fewer oil changes - not more oil for more frequent servicing to increase profits.

In this regard, less is more!

BTW - I wouldn't mind if Walmart carried AMSOIL excellent products, because I'd still beat their prices in addition to providing free service and education.

LOL! ThinkDiesel.

Steve, you haven't ever done business with Wal-Mart/Sam's Wholesale Club. There are so many criteria involved with them, it is almost not worth your while. If you want to make no profit, and wear out your equipment, then a partnership with them is what you need.

People talk about Bill Gates and Microsoft, well, in Arkansas, Wal-Mart and Tyson rule.

One time my Father's pilot had to make an emergency landing at one of Wal-Mart's airports. To make a long story short, they wouldn't give his plane clearance for takeoff until Dad bought fuel from their pumps, when they didn't need fuel. Once they knew who's plane it was they acted like it was a mistake.

Sparky,

I would be very surprised to see this ...I just don't think the market is there and they already sell Delo 400 and Rotella T. There are no diesel cars in the US to speak of in terms of market size and your Walmart clientele isn't going there looking for synthetic diesel oils ....

I betcha a beer it's five years before this happens!

I don't know about your area, but maybe Wal-Mart would do this because of the large amount of diesel trucks. I don't think you can drive one mile in my town without seeing a Ram Cummins, or a Ford PowerStroke, sure makes you want to have your windows up at stoplights, you can't even think with the noise from the Fords.

But all of the Diesel powered truck call for 15w40 so they wouldn't carry the 5w stuff just for us! I know that if you put the 5w stuff in the PSD and Cummins that you would get better cold protection and same hot protection, but try to talk rocket science to those rednecks(not all are rednecks of coarse) that have those trucks!

I was in Wal-Mart yesterday picking up some Mobil 1 15w50 for the Yamaha ... No Delvac 1 in sight.

gamaf, are you sure you saw Delvac 1, and not regular Mobil 1? The Mobil 1 is SJ/CF. Every bottle of Delvac 1 I've bought (Canada) has been CG-4/SJ. If they finally get new packaging, it might be CH-4/SJ.

If you have a PST number you can even save there, although they will want a certificate.

Hi, regarding TDIsmoken and buying Delvac in Brampton. I was lead down that path by Huskey oil too. Once I called Poly Bottle and spoke to a gentleman (cannot remember his name) he stated no way to the individual purchaser and refered me to Wal-Mart. End of story. If you have a Huskey truck stop near by you can also purchase there.

I looked in WalMart last night. They have a synthetic Mobil Delvac 1 but the rating is only CF, not cg or ch. Does this mean it is not really correct for my 00 Jetta TDI?

You are wrong. I called and said I would pick it up in 4 hrs. I was there myself, picked it up.
You have to call their order desk cause you cant pick it up directly at Polybottle.

I have a pail in my garage so I know I am not wrong. If I can help you, I would be happy.

Hey KO, Wal-Mart was looking at buying our system to use in-house and acted like we should be grateful that they would even consider us. They wanted outrageous terms (discounts & long payment schedules), beaucoup special services, and they wanted it *NOW*...

We declined to do business with them. I've got enough trouble keeping reasonable clients happy without taking on a new one who comes into the deal thinking they're some kind of god. Youd've thought we had killed their dog when we told them "no thanks"!

Mentioned this to another client (Nike) who complained about them too. He didn't have a choice though since they control such a big market distribution that if you're not on Wal-Mart's shelves you suffer from lack of sales outlets. He said the deal Wal-Mart allowed was one where they ship everything to Wal-Mart and then get paid only *after* the sneaker crosses the scanning register. Wal-Mart ends up with no inventory cost & got serious volume discounts as a result.

The kind of company you don't want to sell to but the kind you want to own stock in. <G>

We had a similar experience with Home Depot. They wanted 1 year dating and huge discounts to carry our product line. Yeah, they would sell millions of dollars worth of our stuff, but we had to send our guys into everyone of their stores to set it up and keep it clean. If we couldn't meet their delivery schedules we were penalized additional discounts.

It sucks to deal with them. We said NO and they were a little pissed about it.

The classic Walmart story is the "Bunn Coffee Maker". They were selling them by the ton at heavy discounts and Bunn could not keep up. Bunn started to loose money and almost went out of business. They had to cancel their contract with Walmart and then set a minimum price their product is allowed to sell for! haha... Now they are back, strong as ever, but not in the warehouse stores.

Home Depot and Walmart have put more than just retail outlets out of business, they have destroyed supply and wholesale companies that were unable to cope with their needs. It's sad to see, but a stupid businessman almost always gets slammed.

Been looking twice a week for Delvac 1 when I go to Walmart and haven't found any, since this thread started on April 19th.

Depending on how much autonomy the store managers have, you might have to go talk to that person. It may be a case of the product being available, but not in the store because the store didn't order it from the warehouse.
