Finally found a laptop that VDS Pro works with. I have a 1C0 959 799C CCM in my 2003 Jetta Wagon, with original values stored in 04361, 04362, and 04363 of 202 (consistent with the values in this post for 2003 Jetta Wagon TDI's: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showpost.php?p=1553448&postcount=9). I swapped in the Euro wiring to no effect, but then changed those address values to 195 and the hatch (and window rolldown) now works perfect. Thanks so much everyone, especially Chris and MOGolf, for your help!

Ausgezeichnet_TDi, once you've moved to the South Bay I can help you out with this.
Is there any way to do this with VAG-Tacho or VCDS?

I found the wiring for the hatch lock in the C pillar, and ran two wires to the control module in the left rear door. This allowed me to disconnect the hatch lock solenoid from the CCM and connect it in parallel with the lock solenoid in the rear door. You need two wires because the polarity is reversed to go from lock to unlock. If you do this, it may be backwards, and lock when it should unlock. If that happens, just reverse the connections to the hatch. It now works the same as the doors, and doesn't have a mind of its own.
I did this last night (2 dr golf). Instead of running wires, I disconnected the two wires from the confort module (going to the rear hatch lock). I ran two wires between these two wires and the driver module . Works perfect. I was done in an hour. I wish I had known of this 8 years ago!

The only drawback that I see so far: If you lock the doors while the hatch is up, it will not lock when you close. You need to unlock all the doors and relock them. Not a big deal for me.

in 2001, the Jetta Wagon came with a two button remote control, and had the rear hatch lock and unlock with the doors. I'm going to see if I can find a module from one of those rare birds and put it in my Golf as an experiment.

It's just ccm coding, nothing else, the coding is also on this site but yes, it needs to be done with vds pro and yes it's very easy and the chances of damaging anything are pretty slim unless you're a complete moron, actually no, worse than that, I'm a complete moron and I managed fine :D

I retrofitted all the electric stuff and the ccm came from a hatch back so the coding was all wrong for the estate/wagon.

Wingnut or whatever his user name is can do this mod too, he knows the lines of code that need altered and I'm sure he posted it too.

Reference thread http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=161339

Growler's Jetta Variant uses the same control module as my Passat Variant.
It was reprogrammed accordingly.
1C0 959 799 C (Wagon)
Memory Address old value new value
04361 203 195
04362 203 195
04363 203 195

The "key" to the hatch lock behaviour is the rightmost bit. '194' (binary 1100 0010) won't do it. '195' (1100 0011) does.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

After experimenting with 2 obd-2 cables, 3 different old laptops, and finally buying a new obd-2 serial cable from china on amazon I got VDS-pro working. Changed the following locations
04361 from 202 to 195
04362 from 202 to 195
04363 from 202 to 195

I now have a rear hatch lock that works reasonably.

If anyone needs some VDS-pro help in North Jersey drop me a note.

Just something to activate the switch and a decent spring of some sort. I mean when you operate the opening handle it's just a little micro switch so you could tie into that, you've already got the actuator part. I think it must be a fairly straight forward thing and now you've suggested it I'm going to investigate further :D

Has anyone played with the idea of a MKIV Jetta wagon where the hatch actually pops open? ECS makes a kit but it is for the golf only.

http://www.ecstuning.com/News/Volks...1999_2000_2001_2002_2003_2004_2005/ES2661176/

What would it take to achieve this on the mkiv wagon platform?
You are aware that the "Jetta Wagon" is really built on the Golf platform and that everywhere except in NA it is part of the Golf line?

I can't see any reason why this shouldn't work on a MkIV Golf Variant (or Golf Estate) a.k.a. "Jetta Wagon". Did you review the install instructions? http://tinyurl.com/lmgdyz9

I sent them an email to see if their "Application Guide" is correct by asking if it would work on the Golf Variant:

Make Model Submodel Engine
Volkswagen 337/20AE All All
Volkswagen Golf IV All All

The big difference is that the golf has a physical handle the physically moves the latch vs the electric button on the wagon.

Calling it a golf or Jetta platform is a stretch IMHO.
The difference in calling one or the other as far as a wagon goes is sheet metal (hood, bumper, fender) and headlights. It is actually a common swap.

Don't feel bad, I'm a golf -> wagon convert.

Edit: if you want to know more about the golf hatch pop, hit up the Greek guy that I believe pioneered it, he goes by gsrsilver

I just did this tonight. It's probably the happiest I've been about any mod since I've gotten the car. I really don't understand the thought behind the factory lock logic.

The VDS-Pro mod to unlock the wagon's hatch when unlocking the doors makes me smile every time I open the rear lid.
But yeah - in this day, to find a laptop with a serial port that you can still boot...not as easy as it sounds.

So the wagon can just be programed using which cable?
And it will just be unlocked until I lock the rest of the doors?
I had the auto door locks just turned off, that was cool.

Any chance one of you guys will be attending H2Oi and can do this recoding. I need this! This is the most annoying thing ever in a vehicle I've owned. And I've had a few. Feel free to PM me.

So I'm trying to achieve this by tying the hatch solenoid to the door lock circuit.
I've identified the the which two wires to clip at the CCM, but am having a hard time determining which wires coming from the drivers door to tie onto to.
The wires from drivers door lock box come out from the door and end in 10 pin connector located behind the hood latch handle.
Using an led test light (hooked to ground) I figured it would be easy to determine which wires carried lock signal. Not so much. The likely wires seem to be carrying current all the time, test light always on. The not so likely wires were either ground (larger brown) or definitely for the speakers.
Can anyone reply with the exact pin location in the plug or the wire color combo?
I have a Bentley but seem to be an idiot at deciphering wire drawings.

On a phone so can't search but member pencilneck did a complete pictoral howto on this, including a picture of the two correct wires. Hopefully now that you know it's out there you can refine your search a bit and find the thread(s) that reference his site. Or PM him, I suppose?
