Fred, the new categories are a good idea, thanks.
Now for my comment: Since many of us are all to familar with the quality of VW salespeople, the big surge in VW sales probably speaks volumes about the quality of the product.

Unfortunately, the lack of quality among salespeople and dealers is not reserved for VW dealerships!

I note that the press releases do not mention Golf sales at all. Are the numbers that embarrassing? I realize that the US is not a great hatchback market, but geez!

Just a comment:

I have a "gut feeling" that the New Beetle is the car that is bringing curious customers into the dealership. While there, I can hear words to the effect, "Gee, I didn't know VW made these other cars too."

Of course, I'm a bit prejudiced. I think the entire VW lineup is enjoying a bit of "spill over." Sorry "bout that.

Hey, no apologies necessary! No matter how much you've improved your product, it does you little good if the public ignores it. New Beetles have definitely got people thinking "VW" again. I doubt that you would have seen this huge jump in Jetta sales without the interest generated by the New Beetle. So if the future brings us the improved TDI availability and variety in North America that we all crave, you can thank your local "bubble car" driver!

Fritz, Yes, I think you're exactly right...the Beetle brought them in, and many drove out in Jettas and Passats. Apparently no Golfs were sold; wonder what that hatchback is in my garage??? Driveon...NickatNight

Fred and Skypup thanks for the info.

If anybody has valid sources, it could be interesting to have a comparison graph of all major automakers sales evolution, in terms of percentage.

We all know VW did well, but I think most others did break records too. I just wanted to see if there is a genuine increase of interest about VW products or is it just the effect of a strong economy that is shared among all auto manufacturers? And then, how is the TDI sales evolution among VW products?

BTW, VW just started to massively advertise the TDI on TV, radio up here in Quebec. I guess my car won't be unique for long anymore...
Maybe it is a bad timing for VW, with the diesel prices these days...

Funny thing here in Bozeman Montana the Golfs won't even stay on the lot and the Jettas are staying longer. Seems like they should start putting out more Golfs.

VWTeddy, I remember reading an article in the newspaper that the Big 3 had single digit growth and I think Honda was about 10%, but no one was even close to the growth of VW. VW has more room to move up, of course, but there has definitely been more interest in VW and TDI. I remember the days when 1 TDI on the lot was something to jump around about. These are good times for VWoA.

I can tell you VW sold at least one Golf, it was to ME! And a TDI to boot. I don't think VW is going to brag about Golf sales, because, accoring to the dealer where I bought mine, there are only 3000 coming to North America! They are coming from Germany this year. Next year they'll come from Brazil and the dealers are not looking forward to that. Apparently the current Brazillian production is 2 model platforms behind. paraphrasing the dealer, it took them 10 years to get Mexican production right.
