Gee, I hope you meant that sarcastically. I haven't really seen any interest from VWoA in selling more Golfs or TDIs.

Thurday, 6 July 2000's Wall Street Journal printed June sales figures for the automotive industry. For VWoA, they reported:
Volkswagen: 40,311 total. (Includes 6901 Audis sold.)
Domestic car: 23,417
Import car: 16,609
Total car: 40,026
Import truck: 285

From these numbers, and VWoA's press release that SkyPup reported on here, I believe that it is possible to deduce how many assorted Golfs VWoA sold here:
Domestic: 23,417-13,348 Jettas-7,837 NBs=2,232 unaccounted for. These theoretically should be Cabrios, but instead I think these are Golfs and GTIs, since Wall Street Journal can also copy mistakes that VWoA feeds them.
Import: 16,609-6,901 Audis-8,351 Passats=1,357 unaccounted for. In theory, these should be Golfs and GTIs, but instead might be Cabrios, as explained above. It is possible that the stooge concocting these figures, imports vs. domestics, might think that Cabrios are built in Germany, as they were until early 1997, instead of in Puebla, Mexico, as they have been since late 1997. (No new Cabrios at my dealer that summer, as I recall.) It is also possible that, since A3 Golfs and GTIs were built at the Puebla plant until late 1998, that they might be reporting A4 Golfs that way too. Anyway, it is only in the past few months that domestic vs. import sales were broken out this way in the Wall Street Journal's monthly sales summaries. Before that, all VWoA sales were reported as "import", even though Wall Street Journal defines "domestic" as any car built in the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico (all NAFTA territory).
Anyway, these are just some figures and calculations that I wanted to share with other Forum readers. Take them as you will. Just my 77 cents worth.
(That is, 75 cents for the Wall Street Journal, and 2 cents for my opinions and deductions.)
