Not only YES you can, but it has been suggested here a gazzilion times.

You Buy what ever the dealer sells, it does not have to be for your car only.

I bought 2 tires for my daughter's car (Pontiac) and had walmart install it.

New to these boards, but I think this is the best way to look for any help here. I'm one of the ones who got absolutely no notification about the goodwill package during its short 5 month span. While away at school I received no letters or information about this package being offered. Once I arrived home, I was asked by family members if i received the money. When I tried contacting vw over the phone about being able to receive the money I was repeatedly told that there was nothing I could do anymore. I really can't see how I'm in the wrong here, and I was hoping that there were others who could enlighten me with information on what I can do to to avoid being shammed. Thanks for any help

Edit: Just to add they told me that they posted a website and that "several news outlets" released this information. The only news article I saw during my time away was posted by NPR and it was something that wasn't finalized and spoke on VW buybacks/ 5k compensation..

The obvious way -and the only one I have read about- is to "sell" the card to someone who wants to spend money at a VW Dealer. There are two immediate caveats:

1. You will probably be the one who actually has to use the card.

2. You will probably have to "sell" the card at some kind of discount.

I don't think you're "in the wrong," you just missed the boat. I have read about other people who didn't get any mailing, either. One guy said he wised someone up at a filling station where they were both getting fuel. Stuff happens, and I don't see that you've got any recourse here.

I purchased some parts at a VW dealer including a battery which I sold on Kijiji at a discount so that is how I turned part of the $500 in to cash.

But now I like to know how some others have turned the $500 visa card in to cash. I want to make a purchase online where they don't accept the Visa card and also it will only cover part of the purchase and I can only paid using one Credit Card.

My Visa card is form the US

Lot's of comments on here about taking the Visa card to Walmart and getting a money order. Since your's is in US, I would cross the boarder to do it. No reason in giving up any exchange fee.

Followed up with VW live chat tonight since I ordered my Goodwill Package on April 23rd and hadn't received it. Thought I'd post in case anyone else is still waiting. Apparently the package was sent US Postal Service on May 11 from South Dakota (I'm in TX), and still hasn't arrived. The chat person said they've been taking a long time to arrive. They must be sending them media mail to be that slow!

I sold mine to a TDIclub member --- at a little less than face value. and darn glad to get it.
... as I have only a few miles on the buggy .. and do not expect to need it.

I wonder if it can be used as partial down payment on another vehicle? Even a non VW vehicle, but located on the VW lot?

I used mine as partial downpayment on a new Subaru Outback for my wife. Dealership sold both Subarus and VWs.

I emailed an online Audi dealer and they told me they could not accept the TDI cards online because they had to physically run the card in the machine. Not sure if that is true or not. I'd love to find an online dealer to accept the card because my local dealer has horrible prices.

I know I am late to the game, but...I know that is not true (at least for the VW card). I called in my order to the VW dealership and they took the VW specific card information over the phone without issue.

I contacted VW again today and they said that the packages have not actually shipped, and that there will be a continued, unspecified delay. I was told to contact them yet again on June 10th if I did not receive it. They will not be providing a tracking number.

I had been planning a trip to run some errands in DFW, and was hoping to combine the trip to activate the cards with that trip, since I don't live near a dealership.

In a pinch, you can buy parts/service for other make cars as well, at some (most) dealerships. The stealers know you're desperate to use up the funny VW money, so dont expect any breaks.

In my case, I am waiting on dieselgate resolution and then I will decide if I will spend any money, funny or otherwise, on my TDI

I signed up for goodwill package on 4/21. I chatted with VW, they tell me it was mailed on 4/28. It's June and I'm still waiting. I called VW again on 6/2, now they tell me they will resend it to me and I need to wait another 4 weeks.

I went online to Keffer VW and was able to checkout with zero- 0 - problems using the dealer card!
Would not allow me to checkout at Quirkparts with the dealer card.
