VW TDI goodwill package: Offers $500 Visa cards & $500 dealer credits to TDI owners

Yeah; most dealerships have taken a huge hit from this... The good ones have the sense to feel bad about the mess; the bad ones just try to pretend it isn't happening.

I'm expecting the buy-out will include deep discounts on "reinvesting" the money in a new VW to keep the customer base; if it does I'll be looking for one of those good dealerships

I feel bad for some of the dealers - they didn't ask for any of this. Then again, my local dealer also sells Subaru, and that's one direction I might go if they buy the thing back.

Looking at a WRX turbo sedan myself. There are some good deals on certified pre-owned.

I am in Canada and of course, as of right no we have no way of knowing what the Canadian Government will do for us TDI owners once the decisions are made in the US.

All I know is that, for me personally, it better be a good compensation from VW Canada.

I bought my TDI Wagon in 2010 with the intentions of driving it for many years and many miles. I commute a decent distance to work everyday. It is now at the 6 year mark with 240,000 Kilometers on it, and if it wasn't for this scandal I would expect (hopefully) to be driving it for at least another 4-5 years.

Now, if VW wants to buy back my car, OK, and offer me a BIG discount on a new vehicle, right? But they I see it, if all was well and NO Scandal I would not need to shell out alot more money for a new vehicle for at least 4-5 years!!! Now I would need to come up with the money now.

Why is the scandal keeping you from driving your car for another 4-5 years, just as you planned to? VW is not confiscating your car.

If that's what you want to do, then do it. In 4-5 years, buy a new car, just as you planned. By that time, your car will be a rarity, and even with its age and high mileage, you will have people beating down your door to buy it. And I contend you will receive a premium above what VW will be offering. Supply and demand.

I hope I can drive it.... but I doubt that the Ontario Government will allow you to keep registering the vehicle after VW has offered to either a fix or buy out.

From what I have heard a "fix" will not be profitable from my end in terms of fuel economy so I think it is out of the question.

Where can I use my $500 "dealer" gift card

I have searched and cannot find anyone offering who can accept the dealer gift cards. i know i used my Volkswagen one at the dealer. I have seen a few other places that accept them. I have an audi one from my A3. It appears just as regular card. Anyone tried anywhere else?

Any (every) VW dealership can (and will) take your dealer only card. No business that is not a regular VW dealership can accept it.
There are a number of VW dealerships that run online parts stores. Some have better prices than others. Here are a few examples:

I purchased several "upgrade" parts for my car with VW's money. I have not yet installed them. If I decide to keep my car, I will install them. If I decide not to keep my car, I will sell them. Since I got them for free, I can give somebody a really good deal on the parts. We shall see what happens.

Best Ways to Spend VW TDI $500 Credit?

Maybe there's already a thread for this and I couldn't find it being a Newbe. If so I apologize!!

My question is how are most spending their $500 that can only be used at VW dealerships? I did an oil change but my car doesn't need any other major service for at least another 30,000 miles. I am thinking about a roof rack but don't especially like the OEM rack as it is outdated and creates much more drag than the newer Thule blade type racks. My second thought was to buy the Thule Blade rack and then just buy the accessories for the rack from VW but I'm afraid they won't be compatible.

So I was just wondering what most who are unable to use the $500 for maintenance are spending the money on?

Probably because the VW dealer is not an Audi dealer. The VW dealer-only cards ONLY work at VW dealerships and the AUDI dealer-only cards ONLY works at Audi dealerships. It does not even matter if both dealerships are owned by the same company (or person), their computer systems are separate.

Some have had the dealer apply it as a $500 credit on their account. Mine went to the 80k service and my wife's will go to her 40k service.

And for some of us, it went quite quickly. When I got my cards, I had the big 40K service coming up on our Passat with DSG. I went to the dealer and spent a good bit of the dealer card on the materials to perform that service, then did it myself. I will use up the rest of that card buying oil, filter, fuel filter.
As for the $500 "anywhere" VISA card, I didn't particularly want to carry it around and use it piecemeal. I went into Wal-Mart and converted that cash to a money order for 70 cents, then deposited the MO in our checking account.
Done and done.

I emailed an online Audi dealer and they told me they could not accept the TDI cards online because they had to physically run the card in the machine. Not sure if that is true or not. I'd love to find an online dealer to accept the card because my local dealer has horrible prices.

Totally untrue. I've ordered online at Keffer and Auburn. Both cheaper than ordering and picking up at my local dealer. Keffer took the card right on their online form. Auburn had me send copies of the cards and drivers licenses. Got base carrier bars and bike attachments to enjoy and if need be, sell later.
