It should be good through November. You might need something by then, like tires.

My tires were new at 106,000mi and I have 145,000mi now, they're warrantied to 70k, so I don't see that happening. There is nothing I really want to do at the dealer, so cash would be better in my opinion.

Here's a good question regarding the goodwill package:

What's the CURRENT best deals to spend the VW card on? I have all routine maintenance items I need. I need some deals though :)

Do you have another vehicle? You can buy/order tires for any vehicle, not just VW. If any vehicle you own, and are planning to own for while, you can get them before November and just store them until you're ready for them. That's what I'm planning to do. My Odyssey will need tires soon, so I'm using the remainder of my card for that.

Why November? Mine expires in March of next year.

Sorry, that's when mine expires... Most of us here applied for the pack during the beginning of the signup period. You must have applied much later.

Ohh I see what you mean! Yes I did sign up later just to make sure it wasn't anything crazy. Maybe I'll buy my girlfriend's Camry some tires or something like that.

I have this in the emissions thread as well but I figured it might go here too.

I know I'm late to the party, I was expecting VW to actually get ahold of me but in looking up the latest info regarding the payout/buyback I stumbled on the registration for the program and realized I have to have it in by the end of this month : o

I was wondering if there are any other Canadian owners of US TDI's that have had luck registering with either VW USA or VW Canada just so I can avoid any wasted time in my rush to get this completed by months end.

Thanks

Register for your goodwill package TODAY! It's $1000, no strings attached!

It's hard to believe people are still registering for this money with only 3 days to go. It would be interesting to know how much in the end VW has actually paid out in Goodwill money out of the 600K cars affected.....

Everyone, on the outside, told me not to get it but I ended up doing it anyway to put $500 toward my tuition this year. So I can see people not signing up for it. I bet about 80% of people took the money.

I bet 60% of the owners are not even aware that the money is available to them. These are the same people that drive their cars for months with lights burned out because they never check to see if they are working, or care what the warning light on their dash means. All they care about is getting from point A to point B. ;)

So my wife took my car in for an oil change yesterday. While at the service center she overheard a woman who was trying to use her cards to get a new battery for her TDI. The cards were not activated yet and when told she needed to bring car in she said it is not registered and has dead battery. Said it wasn't registered cause WI would not allow because of Dieselgate. Dealer told her that they cannot activate her cards until she brings the car in, so get it registered, until then no activation of goodwill cards.

or she stole the cards or does not have the car any more.

It was Sunday and the offices where closed so I could not call, I put this out here to see if anyone had done it yet and had info. I completed it Monday.

As I said I'm in a diff situation as the Canadian site won't recognize my vin# and the US site needs you to be a permanent US resident with an address which I don't have so.... That was why I was asking if anyone else had info before I made some calls when the office opened. Next time I'll ask your son for help.

Hmmm my apologies, I didn't read the part about it being a US TDI... Maybe the boy will turn out to be a better reader.

Not sure what VWoC will say but I think it might be to go pound sand. They weren't honoring warranty repairs of US cars in Canada so I don't see them doing an about face for the goodwill program.

Well so far they say they have a list of us that are in this position and are dealing with VW US on our behalf. I was chatting with another guy who just used his US mailbox as his address and got it to work that way, but now you are linked to a dealership in the US. I am registered now that way but will wait and see what VW of Can comes up with.

She said, they said....many, many possibilities here.

1. It IS necessary to register with VW (well, since this is April 30th, I would say "very urgent").

2. It IS necessary to bring the car in when activating the cards at the dealer.

3. It IS necessary to have ID (e.g., driver's license) and registration when activating the cards at the dealer.

4. What this woman is saying, from reading the post quoted above, sounds pretty fishy to me.

Since I'm stationed overseas I have not heard much about the goodwill package. Then I was deployed. I registered online multiple times and never got an answer. Finally I decided I would contact my dealer in the US. Within 24 hours VW sent me an email asking for paperwork to include shipping papers from 4 years ago. If I could provide the paperwork within 24 hours they would give me an alternative $1000 check instead of the $500/500 package they were offering. I got the email Monday morning as they emailed me after hours on Friday to which VW customer care responded:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your reply.

I regret the deadline for the Goodwill Program including the alternative package was this Saturday, April 30th. Upon reviewing your case with my leadership, I apologize we are no longer able to process any documents that were not received over the weekend since the deadline date has passed.

I’m very sorry for this inconvenience, as I wish I had a more favorable answer. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Best,

So the apology does have an expiration date.

Thanks for the tip! They are not going to make this easy...

----------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your reply.

I’m sorry for any miscommunication in the previous emails. I can see that you have registered for the Goodwill Package and provided your APO address online. If you can provide the export documents, picture of the VIN plate, current mileage of vehicle, Military ID, and proof of ownership, either current and valid registration, title, or purchase agreement, no later than Friday May 6, 2016, we can review this for possible remote activation of the loyalty cards after your receive the Goodwill Package at your APO address. I apologize we would need the export documents to do so.

I understand your frustration and I deeply regret that we are unable to extend the date of alternative package, as this is certainly not the response I would like to provide.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to include them in your reply with the documents.

Best,

Activation Experience: VW of South Charlotte

Applied for and received cards a month or so ago. Went today to VW of South Charlotte (NC) to get them activated this morning. Had an . . . interesting experience.

Everyone was courteous to a fault, almost deprecating. They ran the car through the wash while I waited for them to do the computer work. Zero hassles, took driver's license, current registration (no issues here in NC we don't test Diesels for emissions), and the cards.

Was done in less time than I wanted to spend ogling the owner's 1966 SO42 Westfalia - it is in excellent condition and a beauty. No, he won't sell it :D

Of note: They have very few actual VWs on the front row facing the road. Mostly japanese late model used cars. The VWs are further back on the lot.

The new Golf SW TSIs are really, really nice as are the Jetta Hybrid. They've got a Golf R - but DSG - also very nice.

Still - the vibe in there was . . . I don't know, I am probably over sensitive but, fragile? Like walking on eggshells, everyone while very courteous was also seemingly on edge. Felt really . . .weird. Like somebody died :(

You know that awkward feeling where you just don't know what to say to each other, none of us did anything "wrong" but you still feel guilty.

I know, I know, I'm just being weird myself - but the feeling was palpable. I think their business has taken a huge hit, and it sucks, these guys were a 'good' dealership as far as those things go.

Anyway - I hope I get to keep my car in the end, there's simply nothing that compares.

I did note the Golf SW TSi has a 35 MPG highway rating . . . so . . . maybe.
