Can we by store gift cards with the $500 "anywhere" card? I'm planning to purchase an item worth more than $500 and I would expect the transaction to be declined as the value of the card is less than the item purchase price, and I assume the clerk can't split up the transaction

They can put the purchase on 2 cards, or take the card plus cash. :)

And right now you can an extra 15% back from VW when you purchase items from VW between now and march 31st. Check out this link. Shop and add 15% to the $500 VW card, that's another $75 bringing the total to $575 on VW items. Maybe worth a look. Someone please go do the leg work for me on this one:)

I bought just over the dealer card, at $527 worth of items. All you do is pay the difference. Most if not all Point of Sale systems are set up this way. Same for the other Visa card. I bought tires at Costco and paid the $76 difference with my debit card. I don't understand why people are converting them to money orders... Just simply use them and when you finally run it out, you pay the difference. If you don't want to hassle with carrying another card, I see that, but the trade off is the hassle of getting a money order.
I converted mine to cash because paypal would not take it to pay for my Euro led tail lights. There are valid reasons.

I took my VW Visa debit card, and applied the entire $500 to my electric company account. As monthly bills are issued by the electric company, they will work down the credit until it is insufficient to pay the entire bill.

I usually pay utility bills, when I can, with a credit card so that I qualify for the cash back rewards.

My Passat was quickly approaching 40k back in November and I liked the idea of using the cards to cover most of that service cost at the dealership.

I used the remaining $250 or so on the Visa Debit card for some routine shopping elsewhere. I appreciated the "Goodwill" aspect of the owner consideration from VW.

If I were going to spend the money on tunes, I would start with the DSG tune. From what others have posted, it makes a big difference in driving feel.

You think it was worth it? I'm considering it. Wish I had a manual though so I didn't have the cost of the DSG upgrade as well.

Austin
Sorta. Car needed new dpf, new egr, new exhaust flapper, new this, new that. If it was emissions related the exhaust went through , it was broke.

Entire emissions was roached, over $6k in parts, on a 2009 that I have owed $0 the past 2 years.

The piece of **** it is because of the mileage, wasn't worth the money.

$550 for the software (if I was more into programming I'd give this a shot myself) made my own pipe with a handful $2 threaded bungs, beer, tig, some stainless laying around the shop, and now no more headaches.

Performance? Totally unnecessary. It's a bit better, but the purchase was to get around the missing equipment, not to go fast. I have diapers to purchase and other family priorities.

Justified cost in future of owning of vehicle? Absolutely. Is the car still a piece of ****? Not really, it has leather seats?

/me shrugs

I am not the guy to ask if something is worth the purchase on a car. They're money pits. And unfortunately the government is making it extremely difficult for equipment to pass, so basically we're going to end up with more expensive bolt on **** that is even more fragile or disposable, ultimately driving the cost up for ownership.

If you have a gen 3 it is worth it, makes it into a hot rod with no mpg loss!

So DSG and stage 2?

Austin
I could see the 6MT guys at the stage 3 level probably wish they had DSG because the tranny tune sets us up for tunes from stage 2 all the way to stage 4. 6MT guys have other headaches to deal with such as clutch replacement (at some point regardless BUT faster at stage 2) poor harmonics and vibration when switching to a SMF (upgraded clutch kits) transferred to tranny making the need for hydraulic dampening at the stage 3+ level desirable etc...

DSG tune + stage 2 seems to be a winning combo.

Nice, thank you for the info. I'll use my goodwill package to get the DSG and go from there!

I'm ending up spending my $500 cash car and putting it towards getting a down/mid pipe and a .5 Malone tune. Can't justify the extra dough to get a DSG tune as well.

My wife managed to smash up the side-view mirror on her 2015 Golf. The repair estimate was 511$.

I could have bought the parts myself and then painted them. But in reality I wouldn't have saved all *that* much.

Unfortunately, my Loyalty Cash card will be expiring already in November and if nothing unusual comes up, I won't have a need for service before 2017.

Is there any concern about selling the card? Can it be used by anyone?

I purchased the Volkswagen Mountain Bike and few knickknacks. Still have $180 in credit remaining. I own enough tee shirts for two more lifetimes. I too am trying to figure out a way to spend this balance. The car will not need it's first customer paid service until well after the credit expires in November.
The Bike is a good call! Cool.

I'm officially pissed-off at Volkswagen. Today they failed to report their plans for a fix to a US Judge, which went seemingly without consequence. They have disrespected the United States and our Environment. I do not take crimes of the environment lightly. Nor cheating, stealing, or lying. The goodwill offer was nice, but now I feel they are just blowing-off the scandal.

Every time I drive past a cyclist working and breathing hard I wince. Same when driving past a group of kids waiting for a bus, or a mother pushing a child in a carriage. All subject to the dirty fumes from my 'slick clean diesel'. I get dirty looks from other motorists/pedestrians and I have a conscience.

So after today's news, I will let my insurance lapse, continue to ride my bike whenever possible and plan to buy a bus pass. After 3 VW's I'm afraid this will be my last. They can back-up a wrecker and haul it back to Germany.

Oh I look forward to attorneys and judges conveying the degree of seriousness of the offense to VW. As for the bus pass.... very expensive. In fact, Kelly Blue Book is not even suggesting a value for my car anymore!

Awesome! So you're saying it's free.99? I'll still pay $20 + the pass though, I'd feel guilty just taking it off your hands for nothing. ;)

Respectfully.....

Hoping vw will be reading your post.

You are 100% correct about clean air

Collectively vw may clean up their mess (air + financial) so we can just get it all behind us

Ha. Clean air.

I just spent $7 all day to watch semi pulls

6 cylinders, 6 pumps, 6 turbos, 150# boost, pumping exhaust so thick it won't even float...

Falls like mud clumpies....

Clean air....... Pff....

I'm spending $7 next weekend too.

I used the VW Dealer MC credit to buy 2 new rear tires for my wife's 350Z.
Bill came to $503.00 Can.
I still have another $500 to spend anywhere I want - thinking of DSG tune as well.

Someone previously posted one, but mine was different. You might have to call Visa. Which is what I had to do. I called the 800 number on the back of the card. Took less than 2 mins.
