VW TDI goodwill package: Offers $500 Visa cards & $500 dealer credits to TDI owners

FYI: Rec'vd not one, but *two* Goodwill packages in the mail today. Went to the dealer and activated one (both had the same VIN; got two due to VW's confusing registration/web monkey site, and a mixup in email notifications)...

Activation of the Visa debit and dealer credit card took 2 minutes after a VIN, mileage, and DL verification. Promptly walked over to the finance dude and got a 5-yr/60,000-mi maintenance package for the dealer card + $20 and change from the VW Visa debit card. Plan will pay for a new battery if needed, and reduce the pain of the 20K, 40K maintenance, etc. (oil changes are free, but with the maintenance plan, tire rotations, brake fluids, other fluids are covered).

So, we have relative peace of mind on roadside, maintenance, etc. for our GSW TDI.

Service manager mentioned that the 'rechip' on the Beetle TDI was supposed to increase horsepower. Finance guy said that the dealership was busier than ever, and that roughly only one out of 20 TDI owners was a drama queen over the whole issue.

I'm kinda liking this whole tempest in a teapot.

oh, and thanks to a local gas-rewards card, we paid $1.57/gal for our fill-up yesterday - about $0.03 a mile for fuel!

Just returned from the dealer whom activated the cards. They told me to use the Visa card to finish my holiday shopping and that the other card could be used at any VW dealership of my choice.

I just applied for mine... way I look at it I get a free DMF, as mine is due for replacement, lol I dont understand people that are actually not going to exercise this free incentive VW is offering. Once again people you are not giving up anything, or agreeing to any future liability claims. I love how the consipiracy theorists burst out immediatelly. This company is simply trying to soothe existing owners, im pretty sure its some sort of tax write off anyways for them, so they are not loosing out.

Received my cards today (and coincidently my title as well), I'll activate them when I get my car back from the body shop some time this week. I'll ask about extending my maintenance but I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot more than $500, the dealer quoted me $929 for the 40k service

Forgot what day I registered but its been a while. Got my package today...I wish I didn't have to go to the VW dealership to activate the darn thing. But whatever cause I'm coming up on the 20k service in about 1000 miles. The dealer funds will help pay for parts.

One note though is that idparts is offering a $50 bonus when you use the 500 loyalty cash card with them.

Got my cards a minute ago. First thing that I see is an 11-16 expiration date on both of them. That tells me that the sooner that you use them the better, clock's ticking...Mark P.S. Go Cards!

The goodwill package was launched on 11/9/15. If you registered earlier than that, then you took your chances.

They wanted you to reregister for the good will package. I believe the exp of the cards is when you signed for the good will package and not the issuance or activating of said cards nor the initial sign up for emails.

I registered on the 9th. Read the instructions saying to check my confirmation code , and that it was my last name and a few numbers. Looked at code I got and it was my first and last initials and two sets of numbers so I thought I screwed up and reregistered on the 11th. Got both sets today.

You can apparently use the "dealer" only card with your paypal account, its a visa and will add just like any other visa.
