I registered that first day and just received my kit. I wonder what was different?

EDIT: Nevermind. Read the thread more closely. It probably WAS the 9th.

VW Package

I just got off the phone with VW customer care and they said that it was mailed out on the 8th and said that it should arrive pronto. I signed up on the 10th. I had also signed up twice because I tried entering the code they gave me on the site, but it said invalid, so I signed up again. He said that is not a problem, but that I am getting 2 packages. He said to just activate 1 and destroy the other. I have a better idea, I'll keep the second one, it may be worth something on ebay in 25 years :cool:...Mark

Seriously, I hope this mess gets sorted out favoring for current owners. My thought is that we need to reel in CARB and the EPA so that they set emission standards that have a reasonable possibility of being complied with.

EPA and CARB are certainly not looking out for the public interest, but are just pushing there own agenda which is so unreasonable. Seriously do we really need emission standard that mandate tailpipe emissions that are cleaner than the air drawn into an engine? Unless we put a leash on CARB/EPA that is were we are headed.

If anyone wants to fight the morons that set policy for CARB/EPA I am certainly on board.

Thank you EPA/CARB for making my car close to impossible to comply with current emission standards. DPF? Really what a moronic solution for emission standards.

Yes it's damage control. But no you are not precluding yourself from anything by accepting it. I had a lawyer read the fine print... there's specific language stating that. Whether or not you have a car that is or isn't legal to drive has nothing to do with this package.

If it's been over a month and you have not received your Good Will package I would call customer care. I just found out not all people who signed up really are signed up. I signed up on 11/7/15 and was not in the system even though I had a registration code.:):)

Neither of my cars need anything from a dealer that would reach anywhere near $1000 (both cars get cards).
I'm assuming the expiration date is based on when it is issued. This is why I'm holding out until April 30, 2016 before taking the package. Did my 40k service and new tires earlier this year.

The 50k service is not going to use it all. Any restrictions on the dealer credit or how they can use the credit? My dealer has a great detailing service. My SUV needs tires but does not use a VW size. Trying to get creative on what to do.

I think the $1000 is more of a method to show CARB /EPA that VW has made an effort to contact the owners of vehicles in question. There is no doubt VW will have to prove they are trying to get all the vehicles that are contained in the lie back to spec the fix comes later.
If you look at the recall conditions for the Tourage which came out later it has conditions which VW has to comply too Number 3 is to show how they have contacted the owners.

I got my goodwill package 12/12, applied 11/10. Went to the dealer on Saturday afternoon and in 10 minutes was on my way with the cards authorized and 36 months of roadside assistance. I'm not sure many have been turned in to this dealer, I had the highest mileage so far(228k) on a 2009 Jetta.

I went by my dealer this weekend, twice, to activate my two sets of cards. They were really insistent on seeing the car in person (even though I could show them the mileage on the GSW via CarNet); never looked at my licence or registration (they do recognize me, though).

I talked with the salesman, things were slower for them because they couldn't sell new TDIs. He did tell me that they had a few people who wanted out of their TDIs when the scandal broke, and he had people lined up to buy them used... so the demand is there, and I'm feeling better that the perceived drop in value of TDIs may be short lived.

I would contact some of the TDI gurus near you . could use the card to buy some dealer high ticket parts that they will use soon. I think a 30-50% discount would work for every one.
You would get some cash in hand on a card you may never use at the dealer and the shop will get a good mark up on the hard dealer parts
30-50%???? I think one can do better selling a brand new part on ebay or even here in the forum.... just saying.

the other question is, does one have to use the VW card where it is activated? Or once activated at any random dealer one can go to any dealer afterwards?
Also, I see some dealers across the US advertising extra cash if you spend the VW 500$ with them. How would you get a dealer in your area convinced? None of the dealers around me make a big deal out of it, not even showing any Goodwill package on their website. Kind of a shame I think. ALL the dealers should at least make owners aware of it. Still, I would accept nothing until the dust settles because of what accepting the payout might imply..
Guys... this has been discusses ad-neuseam, in fact there's a 84 page thread right on this site that beats this horse dead, resurrects it just to beat it dead again.

Can we just leave it to that thread and leave the arguing, discussion and what not out of here, please?

The parts dept should be able to order any size tire you want. Im getting 16" steelies from my dealer through tire rack. (Listed at $60/wheel). He said as long as its ordered through the dealer they can do it. Im sure there will be a markup, but far less than what oem cost ($130/wheel)

Apparently not. I just got off the phone with 5 of the closest dealers in my area. I asked a couple of the parts guys this very question, and they didn't think we were harnessed to the activating dealer. The card is like a fleet card, and I am using mine to get another key fob made. Also, it pays to call around for prices! Out of the five closest dealers in my area, here are the prices each dealer quoted me.... (parts+labor=total)

Elgin - 176+65=241
Frank Boucher - 135+95=230
Lou Bachrodt - 250+130=380
Fox Valley - 180+74=254
Bill Jacobs - 145+140=285

I think it's crazy how much difference there is in dealer pricing. All of these are within a 75 mile radius.

When I purchased another key I ordered the remote from a dealership out of state that sold them much cheaper and the top key section from the dealership. My Q5 remote was $106 and $65 for the key. The programming was another $104.

Because seriously, that $1000 is all you might ever see.
And that would be fine by me. I was never "spitting" mad over the issue anyhow. I'm just thrilled that I got my $1000 gift in today's mail. I won't be standing around with my hand out expecting more. I will just continue to enjoy driving my great car. :)

The fob on this car isn't two pieces like our older 05.5, and doesn't come apart (unless you use a hammer and drift pin). The steel key is replaceable, but the fob is now one piece I guess. Also, our dealerships (in our area) require me to physically bring the registration or title and driver's license (no faxes) before they'll order it. My only other option is to deactivate the immobilizer when I tune it later, and use an ebay/aftermarket key. I found a guy locally that can program SOME 2010+ cars, but my car has a cluster that won't allow it. I'm not an expert on this.....only know what I've been through so far.

Don't want to get into a fight with you, shovelhd, but I certainly never intentionally "cut the line" -- I simply went to the VWDieselinfo website, read the information they posted there, followed their instructions, checked my e-mail, received a "thank you for registering" letter that says

And then I sat back and waited five weeks. When it didn't arrive, I called, and they told me, "No, that was a practice website, it wasn't live."
They can say they were "practicing" and they can say it "wasn't live," but they're saying that after the fact. On 8 Nov. 2015 there was absolutely no indication it was a fake website, or that the conformation I received from them was a fake confirmation.
I wasn't trying to cheat. I'm trying to point out to other FWs that it may be wise to check with VW, in case one happens to be eagerly awaiting a package that will never arrive.
--Chandler
Yes, The same happened to me. I happened to check the website on Nov. 6 and the verification button was there, so I registered my two Golfs. Sat back until last Friday, the tried to contact VW. Talked with them today and they said I would have to re-register since they could not (or did not) bother to grab those pre-Nov 9 "test" registrations. They are not reaching out either, as far as I know.

Funny to me how this scandal starts due to emissions software that is working that we don't know about, but the customer care group uses software that was not working that we did know about!

Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue as mine?

Registered for the package on 11/11. Haven't received anything yet. Got a "registration code" which is XX-########-###### where the first set of digits appear to be a date. Second set are completely random. No such luck with specifically a "confirmation code". Been on hold with VWOA for an hour now... ugh. It says the confirmation code should be my last name and 4 digits of numbers. That's definitely not what my registration code was. If I have to re-register and wait ANOTHER 4 weeks... they might have to send me 2 goodwill packages :)

As i'm typing, they pick up. Supposedly it was "shipped December 8th".. from a third party (Metabank) in Illinois via regular USPS mail. Well, I guess I'll give them a day or two, but it should be here by now.

Anyone in Pittsburgh area receive theirs yet?

Ditto here. I received a call last night (Sunday) advising me that my registration on Nov 9th didn't count. Say what???!!!

I had some kind words about VW for the poor soul.

For the ones that registered and it "didn't count", after the process did you get a confirmation email with the registration number and comments indicating you'd get the cards in about 4 weeks? I'm just trying to figure out if I need to sit on the phone with VW or just wait for the mail with my cards.

Thank you
Ken

Yes, I received the same confirmation message (with the appropriate date-stamped confirmation code) on Nov 6 that I received yesterday when I repeated the registration, including the statement "Within 4 weeks you should receive your Goodwill Package materials."
Nowhere was there any indication that it was a "test", either online when registering or in the emailed confirmation. If you registered prior to Nov. 9, I recommend re-registering. Skip the call- you'll be on hold awhile.
