How to spend the dealer-only gift card?

[...]
The $500 card for the dealer is the challenge if you don't want to ever spend money at the dealer (does that have a 1 year limit as well?).
From what I read it has the same 1 year limit, since issuance, NOT since when you received it!

One could buy a set of tires, but those do age in storage as well. Motor oil is a possibility, but then you need to store oil for the next 100,000 miles ($50/load, oil change every 10k miles). Stock up on silly hats, T-shirts and key chains? How much are roof carriers?
Worst case, waste it on crazy-priced dealer maintenance: $190 for a brake flush, $200 for a power steering flush, or $225 for a coolant flush! The $86 TDI oil change is the bargain on that list...

I would like to get in on the 1000 bucks but I don't think they would like me coming to the dealer to collect my money from emissions with my straight pipe..... I don't know why it's so loud lol

I doubt they'd care at this point.

Pro-tip to get around the one year expiration date on the $500 VW VISA card - buy an Amazon.com gift card and then immediately add it to your account. It will not expire there. Besides, who can't find $500 worth of stuff to buy at Amazon? ;)
You can get parts on Amazon too, and at a decent price usually. For myself, I won't have any problem spending $500 before the expiration.

Will we be able to use our VW Cards at newvwparts.com online? I would presume so, but perhaps not.

The one card, yes; the other card, no.*

*One of the $500 cards can be spent anywhere. The other $500 card must be spent at a VW dealer.

I have a 2009. What models of newer stereos are out with backup camera functionality? And roughly how much would those go for at the dealer? May be a good use to put that $500 Dealer credit towards.

I can't see a dealer installing an aftermarket stereo for you, a better strategy might be to look into maintenance items like suspension, brakes and tires

Newvwparts, kefferparts, 1stvwparts, ad infinitum, are online parts presence for VW dealers. We do not know whether they will take the dealer card. Another option would be to try and price match with your dealer parts counter, who would have no problem taking the dealer card.

Would never let a dealer install. I was asking about them selling the head unit. Hence me asking what newer models came with backup cameras (or ability to install the option through it)

Or load it to your american express serve for cash on a walmart money center machine.

I would have said that you're overreacting about the dealer, but unfortunately, I had first-hand experience with this...

They are on the phone with Wolfsburg, back and forth, how far should they screw us on the troubling exchange rate ... :)

No, sadly nothing confirmed yet. VW Canada is silent as Maple Leafs crowd during a hockey game.
The site vwdieselinfo.com is strictly for US cars ... there's a site for VIN's sold in Canada. Register and wait .... http://www.vwemissionsinfo.ca/
My cards are about 2 weeks out according to VW Canada and my dealership. Yes they are 500 and 500 Canadian. And you should have email confirmations on it all, I was notified about 3 weeks ago.

Many TDI Jettas and a Beetle Race car run 2010 jetta tdi cup car build roadrace
It is placement in line Nov 9th 5.30PM 16126 than my other car at 6.42 PM 18482 in one hour over 2000+ people signed up.

Maybe the registration numbers are not our place in line. I registered november 5th and my number is 7948.

BTW, the last four digits in my registration "code" is 6494. Perhaps this is where we are in line?

I wonder how many have signed up in total, and what percentage that is of the eligible people? The great thing about rebates (for the people offering them) is that a percentage of people don't enroll, others don't get the cards activated, and still others never use them. Makes it lower cost for the issuers.

TLDR question...

I signed up a good 2-3 weeks ago...
Do I need to go to the dealer to get the cards?
I was under the impression that vw will simply mail the cards out after a month or so?

They said a package will be mailed to you within 4 weeks. On Monday it will be 3 weeks since the "goodwill" started. Therefore, we should be starting to get the "packages" within a week or so. Then you must go to a dealer to get the cards "activated" (they just want to make sure you still own the car). All of this should have been detailed in the confirmation email you got after you signed up.

Have Fun!

I kinda figured... a quick read through the thread a page or two back didn't answer my question whish is why I asked instead of trying to read over 50 pages of this thread.

Has Anyone Received Their 'Goodwill Package'?

At least one poster had implied that they knew someone that received their 'Goodwill Package'. That begs the question, have folks begun to receive it?

Not sure what you are reading but I haven't seen anyone imply this... I signed up the first day and no package for me yet! I wouldn't expect it until at least next week (4 weeks) and I'm sure it will be all over the thread when people start receiving them.
