I just test drove one yesterday. They only let me drive around the block, but one side of that block was on the highway and I can tell you, coming off and into the exit ramp the car knew what it was doing. Just like the 4 door, there was too much bling (spelled too many shiny things) everywhere on the dashboard. And it was a DSG. It may be fast to some, but I'd rather have a stick.

Seems that VW, or at least Horn, is saying they can't figure out how to put AWD into the chassis of anything that has a urea tank.

Yea, thanks. Wishful thinking of me. And Cross Coupe is an SUV. I like it's looks though. And after reading how smog from diesel pollution has ruined Paris, I'm amazed at what genius CARB is.

It will save me some money, not having both TDI and AWD. Which means more to me AWD or TDI? I'm thinking it may be a tough call. The complexity of TDI components negates some of its advantage.

MKVIII Passat in Europe is AWD and with their 240 PS TDI it has an ad blue tank. It is about 8 inches longer than the MKVII Golf Sportwagen.

The real question is why does VW think that NA demand for an Allroad Quattro/4Motion Passat would not justify bringing it here? Are they worried more about eating into SW and A4 sales, than actually giving what consumers want?

Ted, don't listen to anyone! Keep an eye out at your dealership. It's the only way....

Just came back from the NY Auto Show, quite demoralizing. Started looking hard at BMW for my next diesel...not even an Audi option.

VW, you had me in the palm of your hand, but it's looking like I'm going to slip right through your fingers.

VW sure seemed pretty quick to simply write off the TDI in the Alltrack. This from the same company that manages to squeeze AWD, Adblue, and a 26.4 gallon fuel tank in the Touareg.

I have an idea for VW: Take a look at the Toyota Sienna AWD, the BlueTec version of the Mercedes GLK, or even their latest 4-Motion Golf R. The commonality? No spare tire. For people that are hellbent on a spare, offer the TSI version. The void under the floor leaves a lot of room for a urea tank.

^ My dad has a GLK 250. He's ruined two run flat tires and a rim by driving through potholes. While I think your idea is perfect for us gearheads, VW will never take out the spare because enough people would pass on the car without a spare.

Spare tires are utility blankets for most people. They don't know how to change a tire, nor would they. They just like knowing that they have a spare.

I should also mention that I swapped the tires on the GLK to a Michelin MXMVs and taped the AAA card into the glovebox.

I do think that if enough of us called or wrote into VWOA, they may listen closer.

To me, giving up the spare to have an AWD Sportwagon would be a very small sacrifice. Seems like a no brainer to me. I can't remember the last time I used a spare.

I've often written VW about my desire to have an AWD wagon TDI. Heck, I would even be willing to make the sacrifice and have an automatic...

I guess I can stop looking at volkswagen as an option. Looks like the BMW awd diesel wagon is the new contender.

Why does a urea tank have to be so huge that they can't figure out where to put one?

It's easy enough to top up. Just make it hold five liters. That way people could buy four liter jugs, and have one liter of extra space so they can still dump the entire four liter jug in if they still have one liter remaining. Oh, and how about a low level alarm that says "add four liters" so people know to buy a jug and top it up?

Four liters would last months, right? So it's not like it would be annoying.

I got a survey from VW customer contact. Not that I really need or want 4 wheel drive but I told them if they don't offer more models with diesel, I won't be buying another VW. My next car will probably be the Chevy Colorado diesel to replace my current canyon and JSW at the same time. Next one after that, I am hoping for a Tiguan diesel.

Well THAT news ruined my Friday! I guess it's back to importing a B5.5 4Motion TDI...or can Mazda come through??? You're hopeless VW.
well folks there might be another option. a local fleet manager kindly informed me months ago that jsw awd was gonna happen but not as tdi so I pulled the trigger. I'm converting my mk5 jsw to awd w/imported vag tranny, fuelpump, wire harness and control modules. brake lines will have to be fabricated and spare wheel well cut and resealed. mechanical aspects will be drop-in, electrical will involve re-coding. Brandon from dcb is doing the work and has agreed to a conversion thread with pics along the way.

Saw one of these today at the NY show. Didn't take a photo, it looks just like the GSW parked nearby. It was a gasser. The big surprise to me was it had cloth seats. Too bad I don't want AWD, because I'd really like another wagon with cloth seats.

Edit: I did get a photo:

Late to the party...(been super busy at work)

So now the Alltrack won't have a TDI diesel?

And, it will have run-flats with no spare tire -- or is that just an option/solution to keep the TDI for urea/AdBlue tank?

Question-- are these guys, given they are not going to do a TDI in the 4Motion sportwagen-- going to still do the TDI in the Cross Blue? and what's the status on the cross blue-- I thought it was to be out around now-- anyone know?

I'd like to know about that also.

Does this mean VW will dump the DPF and we'll have an Adblue system or will it remain a 2-part solution for emissions (a DPF + Adblue) on the TDI's?

There's always a DPF. Ad Blue replaces the NOx catalyst.
