My 02 has an in service date of 12/01, so it was 12 years old on Dec of 2013. Bought the car march of 2014, took it in to dealer, they approved the passenger side fender, not the driver side. Took it to the body shop, their manager said NO-we need both sides, they're both bubbling. Another two weeks go by, service manager of my VW dealership calls and says bad news, you're not getting either of the fenders fixed because you're at 12.5 years. When I brought it u, it was at 12.25 years old. So just really hating VW right now. Should've just got the first fender fixed since they had approved it, then they double checked and decided not to approve either. Such d!cks. Dealer manager was so nonchalant about a 9am Saturday call to me to happily deliver me bad news, and didn't sound the least bit sympathetic, and actually sounded happy about pleasing his VW overlords. "Yay I'm the manager, I get to deliver bad news to people, that's why I make the big bucks". Really pissed my clean low mile car has rusty fenders that are a new $1k problem for me. Gonna have to watch the local junk yards now for any useable non rusty silver mk4 fenders that come in.

Yeah I was thinking about that. My horrible experience was with Byers, and I'm going to write a lengthy letter to VWOA about how both they and Byers are a major disappointment.
But now if I go to another dealer like Hatfield, won't VWOA have me in their system as a fresh denial? I guess I could try and see what happens.

I had the rust on both front panels in the 12 o'clock region. I took the car in July 2012 for photos (bought car at the dealership in August 2002). They also took photos of the trunk lid. Waited for many months and finally got a call in February of 2013, that I had been approved for both fenders and the trunk lid to be replaced; parts would be arriving shortly. Got the job done March 2013……coloured matched everything perfectly, however the trunk lid was from a younger model (2003?) and has a slight 'wing' along the top edge. Didn't care about that…….pleased with the whole process! There are some good news stories!

VW Rust/ Corrosion Warantee

My wife has a 2005 Passat Sportwagen. She bought it used 3 years ago & knew the previous owners. The vehicle was well looked after & never abused.
When she bought the car under the rear license plate there was a rust bubble the size of your little finger nail. Dealer repaired, no argument. One year later rust bubbles appeared on the left front fender lower edge (common place). Dealer repaired or replaced fender, again no argument. Last fall we noticed some bubbling at the bumper strip on the drivers door. Pics taken & paperwork sent in. Also some bubbling on rear wagon door. They claimed it was stone chips & did not OK that repair. Dealer repaired or replaced door to like new, no argument.
While I was doing my own repairs to the rear door stone chips ????? I found some bubbles starting in one corner of the window. Definitely not a stone chip. Called & dealer says they will take a pic & send paperwork in.

VW issued the warrantee & should back it. So far I have been very pleased with the results. Maybe we just have great dealer.
