VW golf problems after a new injector

Help! My sons 2011 golf broke down last weekend. RAC diagnosed an injector. He disconnected it and we drove home (very slowly) for about 30 miles.
I had the injector replaced a few days ago but the garage said it was smoking a lot and had a severe judder.
When I collected it I was driving home through traffic and there was loads of smoke coming from under the bonnet and exhaust and the juddering was severe. However once I got on a faster road / or it had warmed up it drove relatively fine at higher speeds.
I’ve just started it up again and it’s smoking and juddering. If I put my foot down on the accelerator it won’t go past 2,100 revs.
Any ideas what it might be?!
Thanks in advance!

Just an update - it turns out the ‘new’ injector was the problem. It was running fine - the best it ever has when we replaced the same injector again but now have the following reading on the diagnostics:
Injector Circuit / Open Eylinder 1
It looks like some oil around the top of the injector on inspection.
What could this be and is it likely to be expensive?!
Thanks

Is the fault code active or just stored in memory?
Sounds like it's a history code if it's been running a while without issue.

If they re-used old injector lines on new injectors it may not be seated correctly. If you know how to work on common rail try loosening both sides on the injector line and re-seat it. Sometimes that's all it needs
