Is this something you're still doing? My mom's 05 TDI Wagon has a lot of miles on it now (which I put on it) and she might consider an extended warranty if I paid for a good chunk of it.

'05 Jetta TDI Wagon, 47,000 miles.

Chris, PM on the way.

I'm on the extended warranty bandwagon!

Now, can you get me a new Passat Wagon TDI? ;) Looking at at blue-tec Mercedes and they're a bit steep to say the least.

Regardless of how honest and nice a person our Langhorne colleague is (and I'm sure he is), extended warranties are usually more money than they're worth and are profit centers for those who sell them. Except, of course, if your car is THE one to be a total lemon. If you maintain your TDIs (no apostrophe), ichances are good that nothiing major will break. If a couple of moderately serious things happen, it's probably still cheaper to have them fixed by a good independent mechanic.

I agree with the Mass Wine Guy, but only partly. You can do all of the maintenance that you like to a car and make sure that everything is done according to factory specs, but there is nothing that you can do about anything electronic but scrath your head and write the check.

The check you write for the repair will probably be more than the warranty cost. FWIW.

BTW - Shameless plug for a late model, lower miles, light colored Jetta TDI Wagon....

Allthough I usually do not comment{good or bad} to these kinds of posts, I will today!

I aggree that the sale of warranties are profit centers for dealerships, however, that is if the dealer is getting what these warranties retail costs should be. This is why I CLEARLY stated that I would charge just $300 over my cost vs. the double the price your own local dealers would get from you!

Ifr you do not agree w/ the warranty, that is fine, please post that and move on. Thanks for the bump to the top of the page though!

I just bought a '06 TDI with 20K miles, but it also has a CPO warranty, taking the coverage out to 2012 or 75K miles. Would this 100K bumper-to-bumper warranty be worth it? If so, could you explain why? Would you mind PM'ing me a quote for my car? I would really appreciate it.

I know the CPO warranty on my car won't cover everything, so if yours is bumper-to-bumper it may be worth it. However, I'm not real thrilled about the $100 deductible thing. The factory warranty doesn't have a deductible, so why should this one? Not trying to be confrontational - just asking some questions.
