VW Canada today posted on their facebook page if we want the GTD:

I have only one thing to say... It's time we make some noise! Hit up the link above and let them know. YES! DAMN IT YES! Just take our money already! They've been on/off/on/off about brining this car to North America. I think it's time we give them a nice gentle nudge off the fence towards the YES side.

What say you?!

Signed.

By 'compete', you mean VW will be using inferior chinese components to be on par with the Cruze?

So we will start having to changing our VW front end components and brakes at 20,000km and have horrendous depreciation and resale value?

VW has already started that with bolt in front wheel bearings-wait- that's a good thing. What's next? Power mirror switches with the centre position NOT activating the heated mirrors- No cause that would make sense:D

Maybe they will offer us the GTD only in auto to compete with the Cruze??
I think it needs the explosive fire package. That would make it hotter off the line.

(*Cough* Bring GTD's to Canada so I can bring them over *cough*)

your point? seen a brand new mk6 jetta with dealer plates still wrapped in protective film getting hooked up to a tow truck on the 401 and multiple mk6s with headlights taillights out already.......
and what is this have to do with the gtd to begin with?
and yes many vw parts are actually manufactured in China, you think the mk6 is so cheap because the mk5 had a bigger mark up on it? NOPE

There is nothing wrong with the Cruze. its a great car and great price. It is also great that GM decided to bring the diesel version to the NA. We need more companies to take a chance!

The gas versions, yes. I doubt the diesel model uses better quality components throughout the rest of the car. It's not the motor that I doubt, I'm very sure it will outlast the rest of the car.
