VW Buyback program is a nightmare

I have never ever dealt with a system as horrible as this buyback program. This has made me so angry at VW that I have sworn never ever to buy another VW in my lifetime. I literally feel like hiring one of these attorneys that has sent me mail and let them loose on VW to sue them directly. The way VW treats their buyback customers is atrocious, it's just a faceless machine. Meanwhile we have a car that the State of California won't allow us to drive because we can't get it registered, and we're making payments to our bank on the car.

I am just fuming angry, I hate VW. And VW doesn't care about their customers. They are just a bunch of liars.

Does anyone know if it's possible to file a complaint with the State of California or the court that passed the judgment? Because VW is defying the judge's orders by holding up our buy back.

Please don't blame any state for not being able to register your car, if that is true.
If it has a CEL showing it is no different than any other vehicle with a CEL lit.
If not, it should pass whether you opt for the fix or not for as long as you own it.

Strange. We did ours today. Went as smooth as butter. I don't blame VW. If the EPA hadn't had there greedy hands all over this we wouldn't be here. Big business is spewing more greenhouses gasses into the atmosphere in an hour than our little TDIs do in a year. Just follow the money. They might have forced the issue on my beloved TDI. But they're not getting my other diesel:p

Other than waiting for the system to process, the buyback could not have been smoother. I think that Lindsay VW , Dulles VA did a great job with everything.

The entire staff were very professional, courteous and helpful. On the night of my appointment, everything was completed in less than 30 minutes and I had a check in my hand. Exactly what the website and paperwork said I would receive.

Lindsay even gave me a courtesy shuttle ride home so I could get back to my other car.

While I am pissed that VW lied and that led to this situation, I am very happy with the ultimate buy back and process.

Crazy. I have no dog in this fight, but I look at the OP and the post before mine and I just have to wonder what has gone wrong with SOME of the buybacks. From my reading, many, many have gone smoothly and quickly, but then there are others that are a giant hairball. Why the difference? Since some go smoothly, I tend to think that it isn't a problem with VW, but rather a problem with the person sitting at the dealership doing the buyback.

Of course, we don't know why the OP is so mad or the details that led up to this emotion, so it's difficult to empathize and understand the source of the feelings. Maybe some details on what has happened to lead to this emotional post will clarify some things.

I have done everything that the information asks and have been put back to step 8.
Originally I filed for the fix, but my wife wanted to do the buyback.
So having called chatted etc since before the approval process started to get it changes I got the final offer for the fix and checked the box for the buyback.
After waiting for two weeks I called and chatted yesterday and had the whole thing reset and now the process starts all over.
Talk about pissed!

Why are you in such a rush...
One reason I waited was too let others be test folks...
How often does any big operation go perfectly?!
Expect it to go perfect with a huge number of people, large sums of cash, and the government involvement?!
I did want too see if/what the fix is...At this point, buyback is likely...But no rush...Let the winter salt eat this car more!!

EPA is just butthurt because VW outsmarted them and VW owners are just cashing in. Buyback is ludicrous. No wonder VW is giving up on the US and Canada market. Thanks to you smucks.

Thanks to EPA we now have no new cars to buy because all we drive is diesel VWs. I can't even get a used one as the buybacks have caused the used market to dry up.

But hey, keep buying suburbans and F150's America, after all its our 50mpg cars that cause pollution not SUVs and trucks.

My buyback process seems to be delayed since documents were reviewed and found to be acceptable on 11/15. Certainly running significantly longer than the increased processing times that they have updated on the webpage. When I contact them about the timing, I hear "one more day" or " end of this week". That was several weeks ago...

In the meantime, I can purchase 2 gallons of gas for every gallon of diesel that I purchased, and as others have said, watch the pickups roll coal :(

So far my buyback seems to be moving along nicely. So glad to be rid of the TDI. Since 2013 we've been using the Tesla S for all of our long distance road trips, the TDI has only been used for local, around town. To replace the TDI I found a superb condition 2013 Leaf with only 20k miles on it and 12 bar battery for only $7600. The Leaf drives really nicely. It handles nimbly and is actually quicker than the TDI at least 0 to 40. I think it's kinda nice looking those most people thinks it looks goofy.

I agree 100% with the poster of this thread. I uploaded all my documents October 11th and never heard back from them. I have contacted them several time via the claims portal phone number. Was told everything looks good and I should have an offer sheet Nov 14th well that date came and went no offer sheet. Contacted them again and the told me they are behind and I should have my offer sheet November 28th. To make a long story short I have contacted them several times since then and was told they were escalating my claim to a claim specialist and he would contact me last week. Still no contact even though they are telling me I am eligible and am just waiting for my offer sheet. The claims portal shows reviewing documents as of today still. So yes I would say almost three months since I uploaded all my documents is way past the 10 business day in the court time frame. We can not drive our car, each winter we have had a major intercooler icing problem that has locked up the motor, not taking that chance.

You probably need to call the law firm that others here have been communicating with on delays like this.

My co-worker went in a couple of days ago and turned in his with no problem, everything went very smooth for him. I am waiting to see if TDIs return to the US, and might get an Arteon when the 2018s come out if no more TDIs.

Good on those of you who have completed the process. We must be in the hairball line. Although we have an account and password and claim number and informal offer sheet and a an acknowledgement that our full paper claim was scanned in the system, the website has locked us out. Five calls to the CLAIM # have yielded nothing but high blood pressure. The (script reading) phone reps won't let you talk to a "supervisor" you can't talk to or email IT directly to fix the password issue. So we sit here in ignorance (not the state of Ignorance), drive the thing and endure being totally fubarred. Got prozac?

Supposedly, the portal has seen nearly 750,000 claims (don't know how that happens with 400k-500k cars unless duplicates claims, registering multiple times, registering paper and electronically...) but they have presumably extended offers to 200,000 people. More than 104,000 have accepted those offers. The aggregate value of the offers is $2 billion. As of mid-December, thousands of buybacks and lease terminations have been completed and more than 84,000 appointments have been scheduled.

Depending on the figures you go by, it would seem that between 1/2-3/4 of us submitters are still waiting on offers or are further back in the process still.

today was my day- although I know the process is not over. got offer letter, notarized and uploaded, and it was approved 7 hours later. My appointment is scheduled for early March.

I agree with others. If you think your claim is stuck (mine was sitting from 11/15 until today), email or call one of the attorneys involved in the steering committee with your claim number and request assistance, even if you don't hear back, they got it. Also, consider submitting a second or duplicate claim on the online portal- folks have said that is a way somehow of giving your claim a jump start.

They approved your release paperwork the same day? I received my formal offer letter this morning and immediately signed it and submitted it. Looking to get this hunk of crap out of my garage!!!

On January 11, I took my car in for the scheduled buyback. All went smoothly; took about 5 minutes. The next day at 8:26 PM my E-mail arrived from Chase and I completed their form for the EFT. I should be seeing that in my account next week.

All in all, the whole process went very smoothly for me. Once I submitted the notarized documents, my approval and ability to schedule a buyback appointment came less than a week later. However, I owned the car outright and did not have a loan outstanding.

So goodbye to my 2014 Jetta TDI Wagon! With the buyback amount and the extra cash, I received just a few hundred less than I paid for the car 19 months and 21,000 miles ago. I am replacing with a 2017 Golf All Trak.

They reviewed and approved my signed and notarized acceptance of the offer in 20 minutes and I have an appointment scheduled to turn it in on 2/17. 5 weeks from today.

I've been processing two cars for family members. No problem with either - smooth and straightforward and I have appointments for next month.

You need to log in and be sure the system shows that all documentation is correct and accepted. You probably missed a message saying that something didn't meet the requirement.

I was amazed. I received my Chase information as noted above at 8:26 the day after the buyback at the dealer. I found the payment in my non-Chase account the NEXT DAY just 16 hours later. So I am totally through the process and had no issues at all.
