I hope I get to keep my TDI

Just over a month now in my 13 TDI as my daily driver and I am now convinced I am hoping for an outcome that lets me stay in it. I have a MK7 GTI PP with APR stage 1 and it is a blast to drive, but I have to say there is something about the MK6 TDI that aligns with me as a driver.

I don't know if it that the MK6 just feels more substantial. I don't know if the 316 hp of the GTI is over kill for me and I enjoy squeezing out a 48mpg on my trip home more. Maybe it is the fact that I enjoy that it is payed for, but I think I would regret giving up the TDi more then the GTI.

My mindset is such that I am still making my small upgrades to the TDI to make it more me, even though I know there is a chance it could be given up down the road.

Any who, I am thankful to be able to spend some great road time in a TDI once more.

i wonder how this mess will affect prices of others like the 328d... smaller diesel pool/higher demand = price gouge?
just saw a pretty sweet A3 wagon on ebay with 33k for just under $20k - seems pretty low

What engine? Gas. They're compliant. However, like many others here, I doubt the cost effectiveness. I suspect VW will buy ours back, at our choice for either $ or a bit more in credit on another VW. Then they'll ship those cars to Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, Egypt... and sell them. That'll cut their loses.
Yeah but which one? And how many people would that actually satisfy? Not me. F that. Compliance is not my concern, as a pay the car company to take care of that

On that note, has anyone received more than one set of cards in the mail, and tried to activate the second set?
Yes.. went to dealer, they sent in info for the second set of cards, left dealer waiting to "recieve activation" email.. never recieved email from VW, cards not activated, no explanation.

Got my response from VW about updating their site with info for the less informed(not myself obviously). I think I emailed them 2 weeks ago or so

Thank you for reaching out to us about your TDI.

I understand you have been waiting on an update, and I deeply apologize that we do not have a timeframe as to when our next course of action will be available. As a driver myself, I can relate to your frustration and I’m sorry I don’t have more details to provide you. In the meantime, Volkswagen is working with the appropriate parties to determine a remedy for our drivers soon.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know – I’m happy to help in any way that I can.

Sincerely,

Gotta love those VW Customer Care peeps.

"If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know...."

You already did that, of course. Which is how you got this above, right? Worked through this exercise a few times myself. I gave up once I realized that asking my neighbor's cat would be just as productive. Possibly more productive, certainly less annoying.

My favorite bit was how Ashley identified with me as a fellow "driver".

Bye Bye VW, hellow Tesla

I'm done with these deceitful VW crooks.

Used to be a loyal VW fan, with my first VW in 1983. I bought into the "Clean Diesel" myth. After waiting for a half a year for them to fix this mess, having a new 2016 TDI on order to be delivered a few weeks after Dieselgate broke last fall, and realizing what a bunch of arrogant and crooked jerks this folks are, I'm done.

Ordered my Tesla Model 3 tonight. Even with the long wait, I'll likely be getting to 60 MPH faster than VW can solve this problem, and in real "clean" car.

So long VW! Can't wait for a check from the lawyers, even if just a buck, and all you VW executives enjoying your strudel in a damp, dark jail.

I don't know why VW continues to advertise on Twitter. Every ad is followed by at least 6 angry "fix my TDI" responses.

The days of gas/diesel burning cars are coming to an end.

The Netherlands voted to phase out all sales of gas and diesel cars by 2025:
http://insideevs.com/netherlands-moves-to-allow-only-all-evs-by-2025-no-more-gas-diesel-sales/

And India vows to become 100% electric by 2030.
http://gadgets.ndtv.com/others/news...-vehicle-nation-by-2030-power-minister-818298
There goes the Dutch tourism industry. "Sorry, you can't drive your car into our country." "Sorry, only electric powered planes can land in our country." "Sorry, only electric or wind-powered ships and boats can sail/dock in our country". :D

As for India, well, they may have to start riding the cows they worship. ;)

115k orders for a car that won't be finished for 20 months, and is honestly a little boring. I didn't drink enough Apple, er sorry, Elon Koolaid tonight. If other auto makers ARE paying attention, I must be the only one depressed about it...

I saw the unveiling of the Model 3 online. A friend of mine owns a Model S P85 and he pre-ordered two Model 3 Teslas today. The limit is 2 per customer. He plans to flip one of them because people won't want to wait for them after the waiting list stretches out past 2 years or more. Between all of his family members they pre-ordered a total of nine Model 3 Teslas today. Priority is given to current Tesla owners so he will be among the first to get his model 3 (both of them) when they are ready.

Pre-orders are already past 125k as of about an hour after tonight's unveiling of the Model 3. Tesla stock (TSLA) might be interesting to watch tomorrow. I own some TSLA and maybe I should have bought some more today or a month or two ago.

Instead of emissions cheating it will become range vs. performance vs. recharge time cheating. :)

Actually, I have driven a Model S P85 (not the P85D w/insane mode) and all I can say is WOW! The Tesla is an interesting and amazing car however I'm not ready to own one yet. I'll let the early adopters find all the problems first. If you get an opportunity to test drive a Tesla Model S, all I can say is....DO IT!!!

No, that's not the real reason

It's not ironic, it's superior marketing. Way back in the Dark Ages, a company named Sony stole an apparently unbeatable lead in the home video arena with a technology called Betamax and essentially said "Here it is, admire our genius." Matsu****a (Panasonic) followed belatedly with an inferior system called VHS. Yet VHS came to rule the industry because it was marketed better. Same sign.
The real reason VHS took over Betamax is that Sony would not license usage to the Adult Film Industry, and the technology Sony used they wouldn't allow third-party license usage.

I wasnt speaking about that, just of the difficulty

Personally Id turn down any diesel motor from VW with a DPF. I feel all of them EA288 included have inherent design flaws Im not willing to take on as a customer. I wanted out before diselgate.
Does the EA288 have substantial design flaws sans the DPF? I personally would turn down any diesel motor from ANY manufacturer with a DPF. My next TDI/diesels will be an ALH, and a Tier 0 diesel truck.

Well, they certainly failed at their rush to market, since they had no diesels in the US in the 2007 and 2008 model years due to inability to meet the emissions standards.
True, but to develop a CR engine and get it to market 2 years later is still impressive. I'm presuming they started work on the CR while the PD was still in production, though.

They failed to meet the 2007 standards and their failure had to be widely known throughout the company. I mean, don't you think upper management would have noticed the absence of VW diesels from the US lineup for 2007 and 2008? Then they suddenly had a magic breakthrough that they sold to upper management with no explanation, no questions asked.

Yeah, right.
Well again, it depends on when they started developing the CR engine, but 2 years until they went to market is still a bit soon, IMO. I think the 2009 and 2010 were good examples of problems that cropped up. In talking with other owners, usually when filling up diesel or in the parking lot somewhere, everyone I've talked to with a 2009 or 2010 said they've had pretty bad problems. 2011+, no problems to speak of. Mind you, this was also in about 2012 when I got most of these responses.

Interesting. Might go to another dealer out of state just to try that, because I got 2 sets of cards, about 2 days apart.

Yup, and then you reply back, and Heidi responds back. You write back, and then Thomas responds, and so on. It's sad that major corporations (not just VW) can't actually write personalized letters anymore, going off some BS script where the program inserts your name as necessary.

Yet, she didn't identify herself as a fellow "TDI driver." For all we know, she's probably driving a crappy Jetta S gasser that was a former loaner car.

Tesla’s Model 3 Could Destroy Elon Musk’s Company

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...odel-3-could-destroy-elon-musk-s-company.html

Tesla’s Electric Cars Aren’t as Green as You Might Think

http://www.wired.com/2016/03/teslas-electric-cars-might-not-green-think/
Interesting articles. Funny the first one is dated on the 31st, but is preceded by April Fools Day. It looks more like an opinion piece, but still an interesting read.

The second article - I'm surprised Tesla hasn't committed itself to sustainable production, like solar/wind powered production plants, recycled rubber tires, sustainable mining of rare earth metals for the batteries, etc. Almost seems ironic to market the car as a 'green vehicle,' when in fact, it's not. And 200 mile range is still crap. 500 mile range and I think more consumers will be interested, particularly those who don't live in a metropolitan or suburban area.

115k orders for a car that won't be finished for 20 months, and is honestly a little boring. I didn't drink enough Apple, er sorry, Elon Koolaid tonight. If other auto makers ARE paying attention, I must be the only one depressed about it...
20 months is it? And does Tesla even have enough capital coming in to build all those vehicles, without free handouts from Uncle Sam?

And 10 years from now you'll be complaining on a Tesla forum about your Tesla's dead battery...
Like I did on a Prius forum after owning that pile of junk for only 4 years. And yet, everyone thinks it's still good for the environment to get another battery (and shell out $2-4K for parts and labor, making your gas savings over the life of the battery, equal to a non-hybrid).

I think it's much more than that. From what I have read, they created the cheat code as a test mode only to be used during engine development. They crafted a tersely worded letter to VWAG instructing them that this code should NEVER make it to production vehicles. We all know that it did. It's the smoking gun as far as Bosch is concerned. We warned you. You ignored us. Bosch is in the courtroom just in case this comes up. If this cluster goes to trial, I expect them to be a critical witness for the prosecution.

Bosch is innocent in my mind.

vw WAS warned -- vw never intended to do good. vw took it and went with the Bosch tech
