Great attitude... Considering you don't have a dog in this hunt, why even comment?
Good....I'm glad.I have a dog in this hunt, thanks. What makes you think I don't. I also owned a Gen 1 before the T-reg. All of us own a depreciating asset. I just don't "need" to "get rid of it" now.

I'm finding it very hard to believe that this (unverified) discussion about EPA forcing VW into EV's....has ANYTHING to do with the 325,000 cars that are on the road. I just cannot envision EPA/CARB saying "It's ok....these 325K cars will be validated.....if you create more EV's".
I rather would think that EPA/CARB are saying...."OK...we'll reduce the billions in fines ONLY IF you increase EV production". All of this completely aside from the fact that VW must fix or buy back existing 2009-2014 Gen 1's....and further fix Gen2's and 3's (if possible to repair).
Perhaps I'm dreaming....but I don't speculate that EV's will get VW off the proverbial "hook" with the existing non repaired TDI's which are already on the streets. EPA will want these fixed or removed from the streets....god willing.
500 miles was a minimum travel requirement when I bought the Expedition 13 years ago. It will go 500 miles on a trip. Of course, it has a 28 gallon tank!! My BMW on the other hand, will only go 300-ish. It has a 12 gallon tank.Keep in mind that someone that's in the market for a truck or SUV does not have the same expectations as someone in the market for a compact car. I don't see an expectation for a 500+ mile truck or SUV. You aren't going to get 500 miles out of a gas or diesel truck, so I don't think people that would be in the market for a truck or SUV would expect that. Now 300 miles or so? That would be cool.
If this would be the outcome...I suspect another (larger) flood of lawsuits filed by individual TDI owners. Just sayin'. I believe there to be a large population of TDI'ers who are awaiting a 'positive' outcome....and if not perceived as 'positive' I believe that they will file lawsuits.Taking care of TDI owners who are being negatively impacted by all of this is certainly going to be part of the resolution, but it may simply be another goodwill package - it doesn't have to be a buy back or fix.
I think the EPA knows there aren't enough TDIs "on the road" to harm the environment or cause health issues.
They are going hard after VW for purposely cheating, and I believe the EPA's #1 priority is making an example out of them.

Radar detectors are pretty useless with the new laser stuff though.
We service a few police cars here, the newer tech is pretty hard to beat.
At $1,999.00 hell of a dealI have this in my Porsche https://www.escortradar.com/passport9500ci/
Stops any radar/Lidar out there, cold.![]()
A pathetic thing to say, in the face of VW's fraud. It's politics; ethics have no place in the discussion.
At $1999, it damn well better. At $1,999.00 hell of a deal![]()
The musical to which you refer was a self-referential part of the story in the actual Mel Brooks musical "The Producers."Is it a musical too? Remember the musical "Springtime for ******" was a boffo smash!![]()
Where do people get this stuff from? The Model S battery is a lot more expensive, and practically no batteries are failing. CARB states have 10 year warranties. Beyond that, 10-20% degradation in 7-10 years isn't so bad, compared to the price of a 7-10 year old used car. It's not like they completely fail. They replace banks of cells, at a time.Hybrids cost a lot when it comes time to replace the batteries; Tesla Model S is $8k and the Prius is $4k. They generally last 7 years but for those that want to keep a car a long time, you do need to factor in the cost of battery replacement.
Yup, terrible, but now more possible outcome. Cheer up /sarc. Maybe we'll get a $1,000 voucher, that's good toward a new 8kwh VW PHEV. It will help VW reach compliance, and require gas to get home. The EV perfectly designed to earn "nobody wants".Fact of the matter... Yeah, maybe the Gen 2 and 3's will be fixed but VW is not going to get away with just leaving the Gen 1s alone. No way.
Quite so.Specifically, it depends on the quality of the optics.

I will not accept a small token goodwill package and keep driving my TDI simply because the EPA decided to negotiate around me. I don't believe that it is entirely the EPA's job to assure that TDI customers are made whole...they have other priorities (as you correctly stated). I won't be duped to this magnitude should the dupe require that I am unable to reasonably sell and/or trade my vehicle in the open market.
We shall just all wait and see how it goes.
No way, man. Sell 'um to ISIS. Get Jihadi John (2nd) gattlin' out the pano roof. This could be VW's perfect "re-use and recycle" campaign. They already wear half the Darth costume.I don't see them doing that though because it would be a bigger pain in the a$$ than it would be worth..... (i.e. Storage, shipping, etc.). It would make more sense to just sell the cars to recycling/salvage yards.
It was an inside joke and it went right over your head! The musical to which you refer was a self-referential part of the story in the actual Mel Brooks musical "The Producers."

I also disagree. Some cars are more engaging, with a nice road feel -- not just faster than average. Some cars have more comfortable foam than others, if that's your thing. For some, a car is just to get from a to b; in that case, an economy car is just fine. The Golf TDI looks like an economy car, but feels like a sporty car. I'm not likely to find that in an EV.I read this comment a lot on the forum, regarding driving 'excitement.'
No matter which car is chosen for road driving, we all sit on inches of foam and turn a steering wheel a couple inches to the left, to the right, to the left ...
They are ALL boring.
It was better than that. Not only is there no one like Mel Brooks making movies today, I'm afraid there's never going to be. Look at Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein and then consider what passes for comedy today.....It was an inside joke and it went right over your head!
Zero Mostel & Gene Wilder were great weren't they?
EVs are black smoke coal burners and cost too much. ~~ Is it true some evs even got gov tax $$$$ to get people to buy 'emI also disagree. I drove a Cruise rental car a couple of years ago, and wow, that engine was a dog. It seemed OK until I went uphill -- and not really a steep one, I thought. I thought the thing was broken until I realized I really need to put my foot into it. I hope no one is suggesting that this would be an "upgrade", since all cars drive the same, foam and everything, you know. ;-).... holy cow what a miserable car. Overstyled to the point that the ergonomics are hindered. Silly GM things like automatic headlights and door locks that are annoying, but whatever. The real kicker to me is the torqueless, gutless, anemic 1.8L engine bolted to the seemingly-never-sure-what-gear-to-be-in 6sp automatic. The powertrain is absolutely abysmal. .... Paying $28k for a $14k back of the lot rental turd is probably not going to fly. My uncle's stripper Jetta S with an automatic is FAR nicer to drive, and that is an inexpensive car, too. But it is quieter, stops better, steers better, has better outward visibility, has simpler less fussy controls, LOOKS better, and I think even uses less fuel.![]()
ah .. And what would Toyota say about thatNo way, man. Sell 'um to ISIS. Get Jihadi John (2nd) gattlin' out the pano roof. This could be VW's perfect "re-use and recycle" campaign. They already wear half the Darth costume.
HOW DARE YOU SIR.... Saying you can't get a major repair for less than 2K...You can now replace Prius batteries for $2K. You can't get a major repair on any VW for less than 2K
Or Robin Hood: Men in Tights, but the two you mentioned are my favorites. It was better than that. Not only is there no one like Mel Brooks making movies today, I'm afraid there's never going to be. Look at Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein and then consider what passes for comedy today.....
You are currently able to legally drive and register your TDI in all 50 states. If you think your car will suddenly become more desirable after the dust settles...then I've got a nice JSW for you. For you sir...I'll even deliver.Being allowed to legally drive and register our cars in all 50 states should bring resale value back.
