Assuming I get at least kbb trade in value (actually got more on my FJ cruiser I traded in on the golf) it's not a 20% depreciation. With cash incentive I would be willing to lose a litte to trade up to a golf r as my needs have changed a bit in the last year. I wouldn't be sad if I had to keep the tdi but the stigma of this fiasco may effect resale values on anything with a tdi badge for at least for 2-3 years which is all I planned to keep the car anyway. It boggles my mind that anyone with a 2015 would be willing to take the bath on 20% depreciation any new car would realize on a trade in that early. All indications right now are that the 15s will have it relatively easy. A flash, more urea usage and (speculating but seems a no-brainer) warranty extension on the emission system, at least. And the loyalty incentive package. Your car will still be awesome after this is taken care of. So, no judgment, honestly, but puzzlement for sure.
That's how I see this offer - half apology, half loyalty inducement. I am keeping my car as I'd originally planned barring some diaster with the recall program (which I will put off as long as I can). This cash/credit package is coming at a good time cause she is due for new tires.
FYI if you consider Atlanta's metro population then you get the 5.5 million but if you consider LA's METRO population you get 13 million (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Los_Angeles_Area) - far more than the 3.9 million you first considered.
Also the top 5 cities with the worst air quality are all in California - mostly due to the prevailing wings going across the ocean as opposed to land (IE trees on land clean the air - the ocean not so much)

Not really:Which is far better than buying one too small.
Agree on the too large, but on the too small, I'd get "So you think I should be that size" effectively you think I'm fat at the current size. Not really:
Buy one too large and she thinks/says "So you think I'm fat?"
Buy one too small and she may just think/say "Aw, you don't think I'm fat!"
Don't know her size and she may think/say "You know the size of every part on the TDI, but you don't pay attention to me!"
Or, "Is this the size his girlfriend wears?"Not really:
Buy one too small and she may just think/say "Aw, you don't think I'm fat!"
Sorry if this has already been asked...has anyone looked into the possibility of a mechanical lock device preventing the dealer from connecting to the computer port? My concern is that I bring the car in for some routine work and they hook it up without my consent.
Yup. VW dealer offered me $14,000 for my 2015 Golf TDI that has less then 20,000 miles.
last night I put my car in kbb and it came back at 23,900 for trade in.
That is surprising. Mine is a 15 SEL golf and it blue books at $24k on trade in. Mine is fully optioned as well.So you made me curious.
I just went to KBB to see what my trade in value is. Loaded '15 Jetta SEL with only 3500 miles - $18k
Sticker was $31k
Is there an icon for throwing up in your mouth?
Chen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Perhaps sue the refineries first for their emmissions while you are at it sue the EPA as well for MUCH Lax standards on the BIG oil industries.
And what about all the Toy industries with toxic paint recalls? They promised you too a safe toy for your baby
You live in a Toxic Industrial country... get used to it....
FYI your US president drives a HUGE emission spewing Cadillac (8mpg)..... ask him how he feels about his emissions!
I am curious, beave: why is it that you reliably rehash and restate the same point of view over and over? I would love for you to explain that, even if in one or two words only, because as much as I might try, I can't figure it our by myself. Can you help me here?Chen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How DARE you bring honesty and logic to the table??
Great Post man. It's the end of the world as we know it.........
and i feel fine..........................
the beave
That's typical for any car that fresh off the car lot.So you made me curious.

A 2015 Honda Accord LX-S that has a sticker price of over 30k has a trade in value of 17k. I checked my car's value from NADA(what most dealers use) and my value on September 22nd and again just now, it looks like mine dropped by about a grand. So you made me curious.

So, for my '14 Beetle, the TDI cost 3k more than the 1.8T model similar trim otherwise. Trade value today, 4k more than the same model, same options selected. So, it's doesn't appear to be hitting TDI Beetles, unless a month ago, there was a larger gap than 4k.A 2015 Honda Accord LX-S that has a sticker price of over 30k has a trade in value of 17k. The value of a car depreciates the most in the first two years. The moral of the story, cars are terrible investments.
There are two very different options on the situation here.I am curious, beave: why is it that you reliably rehash and restate the same point of view over and over? There is a third camp. The people that are happy with the performance, economy, comfort, good looks, great handling that these cars provide. The people in this camp may or may not care about what comes out of the tail pipe(I do not). Not coincidentally, they have been the group that has posted the least in this thread. There are two very different options on the situation here.
Some are outraged like they were lied to directly. These people demand immediate action in terms of buyback, hangings and salting the earth. The cars are unsafe! They'll murder you in your sleep!
The other group feels that the EPA was lied to and that they are caught in the middle of two giants comparing member size. They would prefer to just drive the cars that emit the same about of pollution as a BBQ. Other cars pollute, factories pollute. Cows pollute. Yada, yada.
Both sides think they are right. Both sides think the other side is wrong (and idiotic to boot).
People need to remember the old saying comparing opinions and aholes. We all got them and you're all going to have to accept that some you won't like.
No one owes anyone an explanation why they feel a certain way (unless you happen to be that persons mom).
Can't we all just get along? Mmmmkay?

You are my hero right now. (Afternoon, Nov. 10th 2015) That may change in a few more pages of posts on this, the most entertaining of threads. There are two very different options on the situation here.

There's also the camp of people that are happy with the car the way it is now but feel that if a fix is forced on me that results in any less of a car I don't want it. Unfortunately I am married to VW through the warrantee on my brand new car so not ever taking it back isn't an option at all. There is a third camp. Could be simply because they like their cars.
Thanks for that, I'll try again on a different computer/network.I ran into that issue. For me...it was a browser & network issue. When I tried registering via a different network and computer...it worked just fine.
Mil grazie, don't buy the extreme contact tires. they are a very loud tire and quite frankly not very extreme in the contact area.
MSRP on a 15 SEL was 27,230, what brings it to 31k?
There is an aux in. Hit the CD button twice. Plug a standard phone cable in the center lift compartment between the front seats. Works with my phone fine.

That's cool. My wife was thinking of a set of fancy rims, but to get a set of four you are going to spend way more than VW is giving us.I contacted a dealer that sells parts online and they confirmed that the cards can be used to purchase parts online.
Why wouldn't they require that you still own the car? Are they supposed to also give gift cards to everyone that sold a TDI in the past month? The past two months? Etc.The conditions of this "Goodwill" Package are really interesting. Why doesn't it apply to those who owned the car when the **** storm started late September and who sold their car in the meantime? Or to those who will sell before the cards arrive? The activation of the cards require that you still own the car at activation time. Why trying to get people stuck with a car they do not want anymore?
Wrong. On this part of the goodwill anyway. The new owner can get the package. Why wouldn't they require that you still own the car? Are they supposed to also give gift cards to everyone that sold a TDI in the past month? The past two months? Etc.
By selling your TDI, you washed your hands of your car and VW washed their hands of you. I called it a while ago (I'm sure I wasn't the only one)...VW slow rolled announcing any sort of compensation because they knew that a slew of people would panic dump the cars. Every person that dumped their car is one less person that they'll have to compensate.
presuming they resold all the panic trade-ins before yesterdayWrong. On this part of the goodwill anyway. The new owner can get the package.
