As much as I would love to have another diesel, I am not willing to take a risk with all of the emissions garbage again. I would love a Cummins but wish the 2015 had a pre-2008 5.9 Cummins without all the crap hanging off the exhaust. I also cannot justify the added cost of a diesel for my use...
you're not any safer with a gas engine, emission tyranny affects all vehicles. You think VW was the first to try something like this? They just got caught.
And Ram trucks are garbage.

I have no idea how they are going about the buyback (as does nobody else) but I will chime in on my cars value before & after this debacle.

I was contemplating selling my car last August and back then KBB showed my 2012 JSW with 95k miles was worth about 12k trade in and 15.5k private party in "Very Good" condition.

Immediately following the September announcement the KBB fell to 10k trade, 12.5k private party

Today I ran it again and its 8.6k trade and 10.2k private party. What the hell?

If VW offered me 8.6k trade + 5 grand I would NOT take it. I would only settle on 14k+ total for my car to give it back which is approx what I would've settled for back last August had I listed it on CL for sale.

On another note, I have no worldly idea how VW can afford to buy back all of these cars + pay fines + offer customers additional compensation. This is an utter crushing blow to VAG on and astronomical level and it is really unfortunate.

You can trust VW to work n the interests of their customers to restore confidence and trust just like the last time they cheated on emissions a few years ago.
I trust them completely........ To act in their own best interests.
VW's best interest will be in following what they agreed to and trying to retain any customers they can. For those reasons alone I think we'll be well taken care off (else they face the wrath of the court)

My dream scenario: we get the option for a $5000 check and can either fix the cars or not. I I suspect, though, that any cash compensation will be delivered when you bring the car in to be fixed.

But I'd also be glad with a buyback at pre-September 2015 KBB value, as my 2013 will be almost a year older then. And then, some major incentive to buy another VW - maybe $5000 off a new one?

Anyway, I've been beating the drums since early on here that there would be a major settlement in favor of owners. This was a slam dunk case, a non-brainer. If you like your TDI, it could soon become the best car deal of your lifetime. Add the $1000 in cash they gave us last year, and perhaps additional compensation up to $5000 (or at least the premium price you paid for the TDI), and this quickly becomes a very cheap car.
I can't imagine any way or wiggle room between not fixing or turning in the vehicle and getting compensation - other than going it alone on a lawsuit.. which you'd probably lose :)

I think, in the end, most people will be happy to turn over the keys.

I think someone a few days ago requested that the mods get rid of you. I will second that. You contribute only to name calling, trolling, and bashing others for their opinions. Calling everyone who expects anything "whiners"... Don't you have a blog to concentrate on?
Don't bother responding to her.. just report any posts she (or other people) that includes trolling or name calling, both of which have been made clear by the mods is unacceptable.

Good to have confirmation, nice find and thanks for posting that.
Now it's down to timelines and amounts.
Because of my job, moved to California from Canada late last year in the heat of dieselgate. Could not sell my car in Canada, so decided to buy it out and import to the US. Now I'm sort of in the middle of nowhere. Canadian goodwill cards got redirected by mail to my US address but cannot use it. US site does not take my Canadian VIN. VW USA told me there is no warranty (I need to go to Canada). Although they said (this was last year) they will make any emission related fixes for free. Lets see how this weird scenario plays out for me. Hopefully I can deal with VWoA for any buyback. Cannot really sell back an imported car to VW Canada.

The uncertainty with the buy back or fix program for those that love their cars and would like to keep them is if you elect to fix and keep it what will you be left with? What if it's an undrivable hunk as a result of the modifications, who could you possibly sell it too? There are still a LOT of questions that will have to be answered before any decisions can be made by owners about how to proceed.

I read the full transcript. 2 months until details of buyback/compensation, despite all of the rumors and speculation. I'm going to enjoy driving my two TDIs while I can, especially if they allow 2 years to decide on the buyback at the frozen pre-scandal value.
2 years might not be out of the question, because of the scope. It would likely be over whelming for VW dealer network to deal with over 500,000 vehicle buyback & repairs. That is almost twice the number of cars they currently sell in the US.

I believe you are delusional. Back pedal is an understatement. You first said that there would be "no mass buyback". Now you are crunching fictitious numbers and trying to force feed them to the forum members. Your 2013 was NOT worth 24k in September 2015. My 2014 JSW with 10,000 miles was not worth 24K in Sept 2015. Ever hear of something called depreciation???
You are trying really hard to be right... I get it.. You may just have to chalk this one up a a blow to the ole' ego and move on. You lose...good day....Ma'am
Agreed. I got a trade in quote from my VW in March of 2015 for $22K when I had 8k miles on my JSW.

If VW goes straight percentages off of MSRP for the buyback, what do you think is fair for each model year?

Yup, I suspect that why the settlement gives us two years to pick a remedy... Where the hell are they going to park a few hundred thousand cars?
If the U.S. government can figure out a problem of that scale...so can VW.

Davis–Monthan Air Force Base is located in Tucson, Arizona. It occupies an area of over 10 square kilometers, equal to roughly 1,870 football fields. The base is the location of the Air Force Materiel Command's 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group, or AMARG in short. It is also known as the "boneyard."

With the area's low humidity in the 10%-20% range, meager rainfall of 11" annually, hard alkaline soil, and high altitude of 2,550 feet, it has the "just right" conditions to avoid corrosion and not to need paving when moving massive objects. It has emerged as the perfect venue for one thing: the largest aircraft boneyard in the world, with a typical inventory of more than 4,400 aircraft.

600,000 cars is the U.S. VW dealerships throughput in a good year, that's about a thousand per dealer, IIRC. If a thousand TDIs get turned in at each VW dealer over a few days or even a month, they're gonna be snowed and nothing will be accomplished.

This gives very little value to the $500.00 service cards. I am sure most people won't even change the oil in their cars if hey are returning them.

Lets make it easy for Sh** and giggles... Maybe VW will also make it this easy. I cant see them appraising 500,000 vehicles.

Off MSRP without consideration for mileage or condition.

2015 - 5%
2014 - 10%
2013 - 20%
2012 - 30%
2011 - 40%
2010 - 50%
2009 - 60%

*** Maybe a cash Goodwill gesture on top of this? $2000?? (now I am getting greedy)

Didn't give this much thought, but if this was this case, I would take it without a cash goodwill gesture...

Consider a sticker of $27,400 for my 2011 Golf. The 40% deduction would put me at $16,440.00. SOLD!

For my 2014 JSW with a sticker of $28,940.00 the 10% deduction would put me at $26,046.00 SOLD!

obviously....Pure speculation:)

Yup. Averaged out...it's about 1,000 per dealership. As someone threw out earlier...they'll have to contract out to someone (i.e. Carmax) to help take in cars.

The 2 years helps VW and us. 2 years to dole out 18 billion or whatever instead of a lump sum. We get continued use of the vehicles. They have a more manageable return of vehicles.

It's what's going to happen. I really like this if it goes down this way.

Well, this is clear as mud.

I think I will just wait for the details of the agreement and what they offer me before I make any decisions. All of this speculation is fun to read but I don't think anyone here has any real clue yet exactly what is in the deal. I'm sure there will be plenty of devils that will come into play once we get into the details.

We sprung for a men's road bike, and kids 16" bike for our 4 year old son with our $500 VW gift card. Little chance of an emissions scandal there, eh?

Yep... That is exactly what I did with one of my cards.. AND they will price match any tire that they offer with an "in stock" tire at a cheaper price within 50 miles of the dealer. I believe the tire guarantee is listed on all the dealers websites. They will honor Sams club and Cost-co pricing as well...

I bought winter tires this year for the JSW using the dealer only goodwill card.
