Step 1 a: Change transmission fluid, flush and filter

Step 1 b: Delete balance shaft if chained

Step 1 c: timing belt service

Step 2: Enjoy

1a. will be first, but isn't there some sort of pressure valve that should be changed?

Nope. The 3 main Achilles heels on these cars:

Balance shaft module/ oil pump drive chain and shaft. They fail and starve the engine of oil. Delete kit is the cheapest fool-proof option.

Camshaft. Like all the PDs the cam can wear lobes if the oil changes are neglectes or wrong grade used.

Transmission. Lifetime (not) fluid and dealers never changing it can cause premature death on these GMR transmissions. Treated properly, they can last a long time.

I agree with picklerick. Its not common to find one of those with that low of miles anymore!

There are just too many to list....
I don't know about that one. Erickson might, they rebuild them. I just keep the fluid changed and drive them.
