Regrettably I sold my VCDS when my car got totaled thinking I wouldn't buy another mk4, but now I just did lol.

Could use some help checking timing on my recent purchase. Threw a timing code has low power. Let me know if you are able to help. Thanks. in Markham, could come to you.

I'm in Cambridge and home all weekend, but I'm sure someone will chime in closer.

Thanks for offering to help everyone.

Got "Purch" to look at it for me and my timing was too advanced to even be plotted on the graph. Thanks man.

Looks like the guy who did the TB job previously may not have done it properly. I thought it was just a simple limp mode issue too. Did some searching around do I just hammer mod it back into position? This is going way beyond my knowledge lol. The car starts and drives fine, but smokes at startup.

Nope, the hammer mod is to get the IQ back into range.
What you need to do is adjust the pulley on the pump by loosening the 3 10mm bolts and rotating ever so slightly, retighten and check again with vcds by plotting the graph. Do this till it's above the green line around 70 or so.

Usually that is a sign that the tbelt job was not done properly. Based on what i've seen before when it's not plotting on the graph and smoking on starts. The timing is retarded. I normally get the tools and check the mechanical timing to see what is off. The cam, crank, or pump. Then i will adjust accordingly. I normally redo the timing belt job just to be safe with a new car purchase.

There are howto's from Lugnut and few others on here, showing how to check what is off relating to timing. I don't have the links or i would post.

Like Jason stated, you can adjust the pump bolts and get the timing in the graph and then monitor it for a bit to see if it's bouncing, holding or dropping.
