Good Morning TDI club. Working on my swapped Comanche lately (yes, it used to be John Js before he passed.)

My q0uestion is weather or not the AHU stores vin data on VCDS? I emailed Ross-Tech but their reply didn't give me much confidence before spending $230 on their software that may or may not work. "your planned use of VCDS is outside our norms. While we may think you will have success, we are not guaranteeing that success. We will not give a full refund to you if you are unhappy with results." I understand their statement as they dont want to sell me something that does work, cant possibly be mad at them protecting them selves from a potentially upset customer.

Is any one near Murrieta, Ca that can help me? I would like to plug in VCDS and try and run it on the Comanche and see if the old AHU stores a vin or if the software will just work.. Or if anyone has done this before? Anyone have suggestions for me?

Appreciate everyones time, thank you!

I don’t recall ever seeing vin info. I do believe it sees ecu info, which is likely how they limit the number of cars, the dongle can be used on.

I see used dongles being sold quite regularly. I’d probably look for these, as they may not be limited.

Pre-2001 cars don't store the VIN on the VCDS, so they don't count toward the VIN limit. Also, certain operations like code scanning and looking at measuring blocks don't require a VIN to be registered, and so don't count toward the limit on the VCDS either.
