VCDS HEX+CAN on B5.5 Passat

When I plug in my VCDS HEX-USB+CAN into my 2005 Passat and do a Port Test under the Options menu. I get (bottom of the test window):

Status: Ready
K1:OK
K2:OK
CAN: Not Ready

I see a CAN twisted pair of wires going to the OBDII port. VCDS and diagnostics seem to work ok, but I was surprised to see the CAN: Not Ready message. Is this normal? I know that I don't HAVE to have CAN to do diagnostics, just the K lines. I've done an extensive search of this and other forums, but haven't seen an answer to this.

Thanks.

Yes it is normal. All cars with K-line( all B5.5 and MK4 ) diagnostics will not have CAn ready.
CAN ready will be only if car has CAN diagnostic.
However your car has CAN-H and CAN-L but they in car to communicate between modules not for diagnostic.

Thanks, that clears things up! I do have VCDS (not lite), in answer to the previous question.
