Anyone else interested in getting their hands dirty? I'm thinking of doing the EGR and IM cleaning as per the TDIFAQ sometime soon, so why not use a GTG to get the job done?!?!? I'm considering doing the Intercooler cleaning as well...

Anyone already done either of these or interested in learning (It'll be my first time for either...)

Cheers,
Brian

We should do some EGR disabling and CCV bypasses that day too.
I just did my CCV bypass (Elephant hose) and it wasn't hard at all.

I was wondering if everyone wanted to keep the GTG in Canada and head to Frankie G's for brunch and maybe a run up to Cypress or head down to my place after Fred's? I am open to whatever everyone else wants to do.

This GTG sounds like a great idea! I'm looking forward to learning lots and meeting some more TDIclubbers. I'm keen to get my hands dirty too with some ERG and IM cleaning.

See you all at Fred's on the 22nd.

Still catching up on things guys, but the 22nd sounds like the day. HotrodTDIs suggestion sounds good. FrankieG's opens for brunch at 11am on Sundays. The only issue about having it at my place (New West/Richmond Border) is that I only have a short driveway some most things would have to be done on the street unless we did it one by one.
There is parking on the street, but it would be dispersed a bit depending upon the number of people who come. Please send me a quick email if you plan to come so I have a rough idea.

I'm guessing HotrodTDI has a better setup for that, but it involves crossing the border, so I'll go with what most people feel more comfortable with.

I would like then for us to start chipping early. The time needed on each car for the ECU removal is only 5-10mins and can be done in parallel if everyone pitches in (street work is fine here). I will need alot more time ~30 - 60 min each for the ECU work.

I will need an indoors setup with good light, a worktop and a few power outlets. I will bring everything else.

Other than that, once the chipping is done, I will go with the flow.

I don't need to do any mechanicals but I am willing to help out once the chipping is done.

Welcome back Fred!!!

I don't know what the timelines are like, but there are a few of us interested in doing some "cleaning". Anyone already done IM and EGR and/or IC cleaning that can give an idea of the time to budget for and how messy it is? I don't want to be making a mess of Fred's street or driveway if that is what is entailed!!!

I have a work workbench that would work, I'll have to check if I have a chair highenough to use on it though. Lighting should be fine as I can bring out a worklamp. Now we just need some good weather.

Frank, do you have an undercover area?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">We'll need some kerosene and dishwashing detergent for IC cleaning. Shouldn't be too messy if we use a big enough drain pail.

I hope we can find the time to do it...

I think it will depend on the time it will take to do the chipping and when we actually meet @ Fred's. Otherwise, we can try to do it at Frank's place - again depending on the timing. As long as the gracious hosts willing to have guys tear down their cars to clean some messy parts
!

Another option would be to have a smaller GTG in the next couple of weeks with people looking specifically to do this stuff. I have room to do about 3 cars at once...

BTW - does anyone have ramps or lifts we could use?!?!

Great, sign me in! But no word yet about timing belt change! Any toughs,
ideas, suggestions? I don't want to go to dealership. Can I ask them
to advance my timing???

TB is probably a little optimistic considering the amount of other things going on. It looks like the weather might be getting a bit better for the weekend, so I hope it will work out.

Since more time is wanted for chipping, howabout we start the chipping part at 9:30 and once that is done head out for brunch at FrankieG's.

Depending upon the border lineup and weather we either head to HotRodTDI's, go for a drive, or continue at my place? I think HotRodTDI is only 30 minutes drive (plus boarder crossing time).

Well guys, I made an executive decision after getting a great offer from Tony at Andes Auto Service. He has offered up his shop on Sunday for use to use. Parking for 20-30 cars and a two bay garrage with hoist. Figured this is too good an oportunity to passup, and then we won't have to worry about ramps, etc.

Anyways, after 9:30am on Sunday he will be there. The location is 255 East 7th Ave in Vancouver enter off East 6th Ave next to Docksteader Collision one block East of Main Street before Scotia. Hope you guys don't mind the change in location, but I thought it might nicer with hoists.
