in adaptations-what is channel 4 used for?
channel 1- iq, channel 2-idle, 3-egr
You don't tell me what car you have. But on the old Fiat's that's the Injection Timing. DON'T mess with it.

Channel 4 is injection timing.

Advancing it raises peak cylinder pressure, and the effect can be significant.

If you don't know precisely what you are doing and the effects on the engine, and can accept the consequences, don't touch it.

looking for answer

I realize now, that i made a mistake; and as i have mentioned previously;
i wish to correct it.
The next time someone is in basic settings, could they just check
the default value number, and let me know? I wish to change it,
however; as earlier mentioned, I neglected to write it down.
Thanks
"do not touch" does not apply as I already erred.

Well, you STILL don't have told me type of car or engine code (2000 TDi, do you know how many 2000 TDi engines there are ?).

But, I can make a qualified guess, and on a european car of this year most of the settings would be 32768 as default. That said, I can NOT guarantee that this was YOUR default setting (and like I said, since you refuse to tell me type of car / engine code I can't tell you if this really should be your basic setting either).

I changed it to 32768 (default), and in specified start (of injection)
box showed as high as 4.5 BTDC, and actual start of injection around the
same figure, which is out of specs.
I changed the adaptation number to 32528, and I get a specified start
of injection in the 1.5-1.8 BTDC range, and actual start 1.8-2.2 range.
Does this sound ok?
Does anyone out there have any information on specified start of injection
and actual start of injection? My Bentley does not cover.

Put it back to default. Adjusting the injection timing is done at the IP, not with VagCom. You CHECK it with VagCom.

Static timing is changed at the IP, dynamic timing is changed in VAG-COM.

OK - but what timing is he interested in? Do we know of anything that is improved with a change in the dynamic timing? This is changing how the ecu is trying to respond to information - static timing is basically where the timing is when the ecu isn't awake yet.

I will be glad to hear from someone on this forum that changing the dynamic timing fixes a problem or improves something. I thought that if you wanted to so some changing for performance, you re-chipped.

Since I do have VagCom, I would like to be able to improve the performance of my vehicles for no cost,

Dynamic timing advance is one way to boost performance. VAG-COM and/or a chip can do that.

It's not free though... causes increased temps and pressure I think.

Costs potential heat, turbo issues, and shortened life of the engine, iirc.
