I just moved to Germany (us army) and VW dealerships here use Aral SuperTronic LongLife III SAE 5W-30 and some do use Mobil 1 ESP the same stuff they sell at the dodge dealerships in the USA (so much for VW recommends Castrol). I own the Jetta 2.0L CR the question I have is the VW spec 504/507 the only important spec? or is the C3 spec also good to have with the 504/507 - like the castrol SLX LL03 they sell in the USA and Mobil 1 ESP (eu made/also dodge dealership) are all - 504/507 C3, A3/B3/B4.... However the Castrol SLX Professional Longlife III Powerflow 5W-30 and what VW Germany recommends here the Aral SuperTronic LongLife III SAE 5W-30 are just A3/B3/B4 and no C3. So 504/507 or 504/507 + C3 which is better?

Willy, "better" is relative. If you have the USA-equivalent of a 2009 TDI, you need a 507.00 oil.

I'm not aware that ACEA C3 is an equivalent alternative since it's mid-SAPS. Do you know otherwise

507.00 is 507.00 :)

VW 507.00, BMW LL-04 & MB 229.51 are all based on the generic ACEA C3-08 spec. All three then add OEM specific engine tests and (may) have even more stringent chemical/physical performance requirements.

I'd look for VW 507.00, but failing to find that the Mercedes Spec would work in this App.
