Was looking for some real world feedback for MPG on the VAG 3.0 TDI. Using fuelecomony.gov, here's trhe #'s I found (please note, I'm not sure if these are supposed to be pre or post fix #'s)

2014 MY was used for all
Volkswagen Tourareg - 20/29 (23 combined)
Porsche Cayenne Diesel - 20/29 (23 combined)
Audi A6 TDI - 24/38 (29 combined)
Audi A7 TDI - 24/38 (29 combined)
Audi A8 TDI - 24/36 (28 combined)
Audi Q5 TDI - 23/30 (26 combined)
Audi Q7 TDI - 19/27 (22 combined)

We have two Q7 TDI (2011 & 2012) and while ~24 (our average for mixed driving) is good for a vehicle of the size & capabilities, I think the time has come for us to replace one of them with something "smaller".

I had thought the (slightly) smaller Touareg, Cayenne or Q5 would get a little better that the reported #'s above.

But it makes me ask - Do the A6/A7/A8 really see those kind of highway #'s?

Our current use about a 50/50 "mixed", while some upcoming changes will have at least 1 of use seeing more like an 20 city/80 highway mix.

So, what's your real world experience with any of the above?

For overall mileage, aerodynamics and weight will play a large part. The A’s are smoother than the Q’s.
With our Q5 with the “fix”, we range from 29 to 36 MPG. Town only I have seen only 24.

We have 2 2015 Q5's. Mine has 108k and I get 27 in town but I have a heavy foot. My wife has 68k on hers and around town she gets 29. We drive hers on trips and it gets 34 on the highway.

I drive our A6 60 miles round trip to work every day, about 50/50 rural backroads and urban freeways. I get about 35 calculated for year-round mpg. Long trips, 38 is easy, 40 is not too difficult. We had a B5.5 TDI that got very similar mileage under the same conditions, except that 40 was harder to achieve. Our Touareg gets about 23/28-29.

My A7 shows low 40s cruising on the highway (MMI display). 1600RPM in 8th at 80MPH just chugging along. I haven't taken a long enough trip to see but my combined, calculated is in the 30s.

2014 Touareg, acquired at 70k, presently 179k. On every fill up receipt I jot down tank miles, total miles, and hand calc mileage (have a shoe box filled with all the receipts though about to toss them since my dieselgate coverage is over). Generally it’s 28-31 mpg.

A couple years back, we took our 2015 Q5 from Seattle to Carmel by the Sea road trip. The flat I-5 sections, we were seeing upper 30's for our hand calculations and got over 600 miles out of a tank with some to go still. These seem to thrive at 2200-2300 rpms(80-85mph) for optimum range.
