vacuum line under EGR valve? Passat 1Z

I swapped out nozzles this weekend and I noticed a 1' long piece vacuum hose attached to the underside of the EGR valve. The other end of the hose is broken.
Is the hose just a vent? Or does it connect somewhere.
The top vacuum hose is properly connected to the EGR valve.

My vacuum diagram does not show this additional vacuum hose to the EGR.

There shouldn't be anything else on that engine's EGR valve.

Maybe it's a drip hose, to drain away accumulated oil. Not OEM, of course.

I was hoping it was a diaphragm vent for the EGR. I will try to get a picture.
