According to a press release, the recall is against the EA 189 CR TDI engine, not the 2015+ models that have the EA 288 CR TDI engine.

Maybe someone else can confirm this.

This is true. They have their years messed up a bit in the press.

So why aren't the 2016 models being delivered to customers and being held in port? That's what I've been hearing
because no emission certificate has been granted.

People are still coming in to buy TDI's regardless of the news and want them bad despite the news. All will be well in the end. TDI FTW.

"Government crackdown on diesel fueled cars after deceptive practices by Volkswagen and Audi could fuel the electric car business, Tesla Motors and SolarCity founder Elon Musk predicts as Tesla prepares to unveil its Model X SUV.
Volkswagen admitted recently that it had installed emissions test-tricking software in approximately 11 million diesel-powered vehicles worldwide to make the cars seem to conform to acceptable limits for nitrogen oxide pollutants. Audi announced on Monday that 2.1 million of its cars are among those cars the 11 million that contain the deceptive software.

The Environmental Protection Agency responded Friday by announcing stricter emissions tests of diesel and gasoline cars to ensure no other major automakers are skirting the limits on vehicle pollution. Volkswagen's deception, Musk said during a Friday press conference in Belgium, shows “we’ve reached the limit of what’s possible with diesel and gasoline.”
"The time I think has come to move to a new generation of technology," Musk said."

yes, VW will lose sales to Tesla! in a pig's ear! You can buy (almost) three Touaregs for the cost of one of these Model X SUVs. if only Volkswagen would add that third row of seats ;-)

I also suspect that the north american refineing industry is stretched to its limits supplying diesel for the freight transportation, agricultural, military and home heating oil markets.

And all those take priority over personal transportation.

The touareg is perfect as it is. No need for a ridiculous 3rd row in there. Need a 3rd row? buy a van lol

I disagree, the 3rd row in the X5 was the selling point for me. The minivan was no longer needed, but the capability to carry extra small people occasionally was very important. *And enough torque to make them all throw up*

Hey Ken, can you chime in, please, on what tunes will/might be available 'post-recall' or is too soon to know? I currently have Malone 1.5. thanks!

Would it be cheaper to obtain a second ECU? One to contain the updated flash from the dealer (in the event sticker renewal requires proof of update) and one for everyday driving until the next renewal?

I don't want to say anything solid until the recall update is released and we have a look at it. All I can say to everyone is relax, this isn't the end of the world, drive more, worry less. *TDI LOVE*

You can easily bring a diesel van in if they are 15 years old. There is plenty of selection.

Or you could move to a non emission state and not do anything. Let everyone go crazy with this reflashing or what ever.

Being as this is the Ontario regional forum...most here are from Ontario, which requires an e test every two years....except northern Ontario....not sure where the line is....i think around HWY89 and north is exempt....

You would pack up and move just because of the emission issues? Also, it's just a matter of time before all states will have emission testing. It's just a passing of a simple legislation.

Northern Ontario plus Muskoka District, Parry Sound District and Bruce, Grey and Renfrew counties are exempt. It is based on postal code so there is some overlap. I looked this up the other day out of curiosity :).

that crack was in response to '******'s rant' about "if we'd only given them their 3-row SUV, they would have left us alone"

too funny

Too many.
um, yes, you can. I saw a Sharan TDI at a dealer lot in Cambridge, I suspect it came from Mexico.
Those are really jut a Ford with a VW engine...Sigh. I've seen a few running around here in Germany the last week. On my last trip I took a picture of the Ford version parked next to the VW....I'll try and find it when I get home.
